Westministenders: Theresa's Common People

RedToothBrush · 18/05/2017 13:50

She came from Oxfordshire she had a thirst for knowledge
She studied geography at Saint Hugh's College
That's where politics
Caught her eye

She told them that her husband was loaded
The press barons said "In that case have a rum and coca-cola"
She said "Fine"
And in thirty seconds time she said

I want to look like common people
I want to do whatever common people do
I want to eat like common people
I want to sleep like common people
Like you

Well what else could Fiona and Nick do
They said "We'll see what we can do"

They took her to a supermarket
I don't know why
But they had to start it somewhere
So it started there
They said pretend you've got no money
She just laughed and said
"Oh you're so funny"
They smiled "Yeah”
Well we can't see anyone else smiling in here

Are you sure you want to live like common people
You want to see whatever common people see
You want to eat like common people
You want to sleep like common people
Like me

But she didn't understand
She just smiled and held Trump’s hand

Order that benefits get the chop
Tell them all to get a job
Promise to bring back the grammar school
Pretend you don’t think them a fool
But still you'll never get it right
'Cause when you're laid in bed at night
Watching the news talking about building the wall
All have to do is call your mates to fake it all

You'll never live like common people
You'll never do whatever common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view
Whilst you blame it all on the EU
Because that’s all you can do

Sing along with the common people
Sing along and it might just get Brexit through
Laugh along with the common people
Laugh about leaving the EU

It’s the most stupid thing that you will do
Because you think that it is cool
You’ll call them a ‘lying foreigner’
But don’t say we didn’t warn you
You’ll regret saying we are better off out
'Cause everybody hates a benefits tourist

It doesn’t matter if you can’t do the math
With all those pockets that you grease
You’ll win the vote in Bath

You will never understand
How it feels to live your life
With no meaning or control
And with nowhere left to go
You are amazed that they exist
And wish they were all white
So you tell ‘The Big Lie’

Get THE flat above THE shop
Cut your hair and get THE job
Trick some mugs and hire some fool
Pretend you are not really cruel
But still you'll never get it right
Instead you're plotting late at night
About which ‘cockroach’ will take the fall
All have to do is call your mates to fake it all
Yeah

You'll never live like common people
You'll never do what common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view
As we plan to leave the EU
Because there's nothing else left to do

But ‘moan’ about how we don’t want to leave the EU.

whatwould. Sadly there has been terror attacks targeting children and young people in the west, the Breivik attack was targeting young people in Norway.

whatwouldrondo · 23/05/2017 11:56

Bigly True.

missmoon · 23/05/2017 12:26

Sadly quite a few children were affected in the Nice attacks too. But seems more deliberate. Just awful.

squishysquirmy · 23/05/2017 12:29

I know it was a few years ago, but there was that attack on the school in Beslan, planned on the day when they knew families (including younger siblings, babies etc) would be attending celebrations in school as well.

Children are targeted precisely because it is the most shocking thing to do.

ElenaGreco123 · 23/05/2017 12:34

Oh, no the Beslan siege still makes me cry. Went on for days as well.

4 people missing from the North East - local papers reported.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/05/2017 12:41

No. No. Katy Hopkins tweeted

"we need a final solution"

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/manchester-bombing-katie-hopkins-final-solution-muslims-arena-terror-attack-phillip-schofield-a7750656.html

How can anyone be so irresponsible ?

squishysquirmy · 23/05/2017 12:44

She knows full well that it will get her attention.
Meanwhile...
While most politicians (from all the major parties) have enough sense to restrain form overtly scoring political points about today, guess who's been on Fox news?

ElenaGreco123 · 23/05/2017 12:58

squishy I was surprised he was not interviewed on the BBC in connection with the attack.

Lico · 23/05/2017 15:13

Yes, this Farage is gross.
This morning on BBC live at 09.04. Gordon somebody wrote that the attackers in Paris came from Syria.
All the attackers were French or Belgian born, petty thieves and radicalised in prison. Our main issues in the West are poor quality education and prison. Bad education leads to criminality which leads to prison etc.
I wish they would stop this blaming on immigration. It is sick. Prayer for the victims.

RedToothBrush · 23/05/2017 16:25

Warrington Bombing: On a high street on a Saturday afternoon the day before Mother's Day.
It was widely felt at the time that this meant children were effectively deliberate targets.

This is one of the things I find hard. That collective memory 'forgets', especially as terrorism evolves and become ever more extreme. This is also why they become more extreme.

Its not about immigration. Really its not.

BiglyBadgers · 23/05/2017 18:59

I see they have identified the suspected attacker. He is from Manchester.
www.buzzfeed.com/patricksmith/what-we-know-about-manchester-attacker-salman-abedi?utm_term=.frVoolRn04#.ncnvv96KjA

Also on the subject of images of the attack I have been pretty impressed with Buzzfeed as they have not plastered all their articles with photos of poor people covered in blood. They have had very moving images of emergency services, flowers left in tribute and people helping. They also did a good article updating on fake stories making the rounds on social media about the attack, some excellent and valuable fact checking.

whatwouldrondo · 23/05/2017 19:19

My comment was certainly not of forgetting, currently out with my daughter in London and we have remembered not just the IRA bombs but the Soho bombing of the gay community too. It is absolutely not about immigration or Islam. However Arriane Grande is an artist that appeals mainly to young girls / women and going to these concerts is a bit of a rite of passage for Tweenies, and letting them, for their mothers. Maximum shock from the hate filled but this arsehole will have been surrounded by such young joy and excitement.

mathanxiety · 24/05/2017 04:18

Terrible news from Manchester. Sad

ElenaGreco123 · 24/05/2017 08:39

I still have not received any leaflets. Maybe if you leaflet yourself, you do not get one Confused
Even the previous owners were sent leaflets.
Anyway, I have read the letter sent by my MP to my DH. I have never seen such a scared and timid election leaflet. This is a Labour MP who increased her majority to over 17,000 at the last election when Labour did terribly on a national level.

  1. She will hold the PM accountable to get the best Brexit deal for us.
  2. (Unnamed) leaders come and leaders go and she will continue to do her job. (She is good, mind.)
Bolshybookworm · 24/05/2017 09:11

We have had a leaflet from WEP, basically telling us not to vote labour as they haven't beaten Davies for the last 12 years. So what, the WEP will?! It made my blood boil and I'm their target demographic, so I doubt it's gone down well in the rest of the constituency.

prettybird · 24/05/2017 09:21

In theory, that's at least two days (if not three) when there should be no leafleting whatsoever.

It would appear though that some are still being delivered. I can understand the ones that came through the post but locally, no campaigning should mean no campaigning - and that includes leafleting Sad

squishysquirmy · 24/05/2017 09:32

Caught the end of something on the radio that said that the US had leaked the name of the attacker, when the UK had asked them to hold off publicly naming him until they had made their arrests. Angry
Thought it was quite telling that the UK services were publicly annoyed by it, rather than just privately.

RedToothBrush · 24/05/2017 09:32

I think national campaigning is suspended. I have seen in some places that the go ahead for local campaigning has been given. (So leafleting). That's certainly not the case every where.

RedToothBrush · 24/05/2017 09:36

Squishy yes. There are politics at play. Here and abroad.

(Today is not the day elaborate too much though I feel).

There was no leafleting yesterday, but most of the leaflets - even for Labour with huge local movements - are delivered by the Royal Mail. There is no time to organise in such a short space of time.

Enjoy Mother.

Makes up for the times the UK has queered the US' pitch ...

ElenaGreco123 · 24/05/2017 10:35

I can't see an end to this.

I am the same. At least the IRA had some endgame in mind - to secede from the UK. But what does Daesh want? How could you negotiate even if you wanted?

LurkingHusband · 24/05/2017 10:42

The end will come when the oil runs out, or we no longer have need of the oil. Until then we'll keep sucking up to the Saudis, who are hardly helping the situation.

The emerging energy independence of the US might be a game changer ...
