Well here we are, almost 9 months on from the referendum & A50 is finally set to be triggered this month.
We've had petitions, marches, tantrums & tears, from the hardcore remainers desperately trying to stop the will of the people, but they can't.

So let's get the champagne out of the cellar ready & waiting - this is the last Brexit Arms thread so let's celebrate!

I haven't got the time to teach you to read.

Does anyone else hear 'The Circle of Life' when a remainer mentions sunlit uplands?

Svetlana33 · 14/03/2017 10:55

Bearbehind - are you saying that you want all EU people to stay including those who have had no job for long time? if yes, then you want to use public money to keep foreign people here ......for what exactly? So that they continue to live in public housing that can be given to persons in work? Or you want to keep them because you think they should be supported for as many years as they do not have job? What is your reason, because nobody sane understands why you think such persons are highly prized and useful to this country?

Bearbehind · 14/03/2017 10:56

Are you going to tell us why Scotland leaving the UK is much riskier than the Uk leaving the EU surfer?

WrongTrouser · 14/03/2017 10:56

TM can't even give you a date when A50 will be invoked- today was supposed to be your E-Day. that just shows exactly how much this whole situation is being carried out on a wing and a prayer

Oh come on Bear. A50 being invoked today was a rumour, supposition, guess, call it what you like. TM never said she would and has always said by the end of March.

surferjet · 14/03/2017 10:56

& anyway, what are you doing on this thread?
This is for leavers to celebrate - go & moan on RTB's thread.

Sonnet · 14/03/2017 10:57

Goodbye Great Britain - Hello Little England

Lets hope all you "leavers" have got it right - fingers crossed for all of us that are left here

Kaija · 14/03/2017 10:57

Sorry surfer, doesn't work like that.

Anyway I was drawn in by Svetlana's unusual and elegantly expressed views on Surrey demographics. Blame her.

Bearbehind · 14/03/2017 10:58

Agreed wrong but it was widely assumed to be today and the complete lack of any contingency, in fact any plan at all, means anything throwing a spanner in the works like NS did yesterday and it's back to the drawing board.

Sonnet · 14/03/2017 10:59

Celebrate?! - isn't that a little premature Grin

A50 is just the start - we are still a long way from knowing what we will get!

Bearbehind · 14/03/2017 11:00

I love it when you get all stroppy and try and throw people out of your thread surfer!

It reinforces the strength, or complete lack thereof, your arguments.

Kaija · 14/03/2017 11:01

I think they are right to celebrate now, sonnet. God knows there's not going to be much to celebrate a couple of years down the line.

Sonnet · 14/03/2017 11:02

True Kaija
Downhill from here on...

Kaija · 14/03/2017 11:02

Svetlana, how many long term unemployed EU nationals do you think there are in the UK?

Bearbehind · 14/03/2017 11:02

are you saying that you want all EU people to stay including those who have had no job for long time?

No svetlana I'm not. I'm pointing out that you are completely incorrect in saying anyone from the EU who has a job will be able to stay.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/03/2017 11:07

I have as much faith in leavers saying EU citizens will be allowed to stay as I do in Gisela Stuart's opinion on anything.

boredofbrexit · 14/03/2017 11:12

I don't get the 'throwing a spanner in the works'. How so?Confused
NS has threatened Indyref2 since Indyref1. No surprise. And it doesn't take much thought to work out that she would want to cause as much harm as she could to the rUK. So, its no surprise that she did what she did...if a bit daft....she will need more than her loyal stalwarts if he wants success and she's probably pissed off quite a few.

She needs TM to agree it, and I'm sure she will she will - at a time it suits the UK as a whole.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/03/2017 11:15

I believe Brexit is causing the harm all by itself.

missmoon · 14/03/2017 11:15

"A50 being invoked today was a rumour, supposition, guess, call it what you like. TM never said she would and has always said by the end of March."

What is she waiting for? She now has parliamentary approval. What possible reason could there be to wait? Shouldn't we be getting on with it?

Bearbehind · 14/03/2017 11:17

bored it's not even a big spanner I agree.

My point is TM was set to do the deed today and something as obviously possible as NS did yesterday is enough to upset the apple cart, such is its perilous balance.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/03/2017 11:27

possibly concern about devaluing £. Brexit + scottish independence = markets taking another hit.

Difficult even for the Brexit press to spin that.

time4chocolate · 14/03/2017 11:29

It might be today, maybe tomorrow, or next week. It may be that we get told straight after the deed has happened. I'm not clear on the exact procedure, does she have to officially announce a date prior to triggering? Can she trigger it and announce straight after that it has happened?

boredofbrexit · 14/03/2017 11:32

Hearing some talk - loose talk, unofficial talk, anecdotal talk, but talk just the same, that May is about to say Indy ref must be held within next 28 days, hence a50 delay.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/03/2017 11:33

nothing like transparent politics eh?

Alfieisnoisy · 14/03/2017 11:43

One of my close friends is an EU national living here. She doesn't work but her husband DOES and so did she before having children. Her life is here, her children were born here and she is currently involved in setting up a charity with me and a few others to support British parents .
Saw her this morning at a meeting and she looks terrible...she is so worried about the uncertainty surrounding her future. I am so angry at the Government right now because it would have taken so little to assure people of their right to remain if they already have lives here. TBH it's a real sticking point with me. I had no hard and fast feelings about Brexit...we voted for this and it needs doing but to steadfastly ignore the plight of those already living here under the EU rules is beyond disgusting,

I have said to her that I am hearing TM will likely give those already here leave to remain but it's no real comfort when nothing has come officially from the Government.
