Stop the silence

We have heard much talk about "the will of the people" recently. If you are not one of the people supporting the Tory hard Brexit or "Brexit at any cost", you may be interested in "Stop the silence", which gives a voice to the rest of us - those who voted Leave thinking of a Norway-style model, those who thought they were saving the NHS, those who voted Remain. There you go again Comfort! Where did I say all leave posters?

Love the straw men...

whatwouldrondo · 28/02/2017 18:25

Comfort.Your last post was so Kellyanne. First you misrepresent the other view, then you dismiss it. You just missed out the being a victim bit....

Perhaps you could articulate why the points made in the thread are "a crock of shite" , perhaps you could start with my point about the difference between freedom of movement and the current immigration rules? There was no mention of Nacism?

whatwouldrondo · 28/02/2017 18:33

Oops, that was on a different thread which perhaps reflects how your comments hardly vary regardless of the thread and topic. The whole they are calling us nazi, ignorant, racist /remoaners are all talking everything down / they are so boring with their yards of argument etc. Etc. on a loop.

YERerseISootTHEwindy · 28/02/2017 18:35

It is a link to an organisation promoting action in a similar way to a petition. It is political activism of sorts and asserts that we should be sharing it.

If mine was spam so is this.

It's up to mumsnet but it looks like one set of rules for you and a different set for others if they don't take it down. It will taint my view of mumsnet.

Peregrina · 28/02/2017 18:35

But in Cpl Jones's words 'They don't like it up 'em' when we start talking about the drift towards Nazism and fascism.

comfortandjoyce · 28/02/2017 18:36

CardinalSin

There you go again Comfort! Where did I say all leave posters?

No, you said a specific poster had been sent by "Brexit HQ":

CardinalSin Tue 28-Feb-17 17:34:13
Oh, and welcome Biggsy, I assume Brexit Hq have just realised that they need someone to bombard Mumsnet again...

So clearly you think at least one is being paid to post here. My question is: why do you think any Leave posters are being paid when there were 17 million presumably unpaid Leave voters in real life?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 28/02/2017 18:38

yersel

Hopefully mumsnet will look at it for you Smile

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 28/02/2017 18:38

comfort

Left wing remainers?

I assume you just meant remainers?

woman12345 · 28/02/2017 18:39

why do you think any Leave posters are being paid
because their scripts are so bad.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 28/02/2017 18:39

I dont think biggsys posts are worth paying for Shock

comfortandjoyce · 28/02/2017 18:40

Peregrina

Wake me up when we get anything even 1% as bad as what the Nazis and fascists did in Europe in the 20th century. It's a ridiculous exaggeration that makes the person arguing it look like they have no sense of historical proportion.

woman12345 · 28/02/2017 18:41

And yersel what Rufus said, hope it's looked into. Smile too.

CardinalSin · 28/02/2017 18:43

Comfort, I agree, it's quite possible they were volunteers, particularly given how dreadful so many of them were, but I doubt that you'll find many who were on these boards during the campaign itself who doubted that some had been deliberately sent.

YERerseISootTHEwindy · 28/02/2017 18:44

Cheers guys Wine

CardinalSin · 28/02/2017 18:47

Now there's someone lacking in historical perspective.

The Nazis didn't start out and immediately open up the gas chambers! It was a long process of "othering" different nationalities and races, playing on people's fears, making scapegoats, changing laws to make things difficult for those "others". Anything setting your alarm clock off yet?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 28/02/2017 18:48

No problem yersel

Its irritating when things look like one rule for one and one rule for everyone else

The problem with this slippery slope argument is that it means no government can ever do anything other than the MN Remainer consensus without bleats of "Nazi!", "Fascist!", even if it never goes beyond enforcing immigration regulations and is never intended to go any further. Convenient (if childish) way of shutting down anything other than that consensus, isn't it?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 28/02/2017 18:58

I feel i am being ignored by comfort

Never mind i will get over it Grin

comfortandjoyce · 28/02/2017 19:01

To put it another way, it's as stupid to cry "Nazi" when an elected government enforces immigration rules as it is to cry "Communist" when an elected government raises taxes by 5%. In both cases, Nazism and Communism could be the end result of that small step, but it's ridiculous to assume that it will be.

Kaija · 28/02/2017 19:05

What CardinalSin said.

woman12345 · 28/02/2017 19:13

www.newstatesman.com/politics/staggers/2017/02/lets-talk-about-daniel-hannan-donald-trump-and-adolf-hitler
comfort an article addressing your point.
It's this: he's( Daniel Hannon) leapt from generic accusations of fascism to the specific one that Donald Trump is like Hitler. But Hitler wasn't the entirety of Nazism, which was in turn only one form of fascism. Something can be fascistic without necessarily looking anything like Naziism

Germans, starving ill and humiliated after the treaty of Versailles, didn't say to themselves, 'let's elect a totalitarian'.

They elected, on a very small majority a charismatic house painter, who offered an alternative to the 'failing left'.

What unfolded did after opposition was smashed, media was paid for and controlled and racism became state policy and an essential part of German patriotism.

And loads of people were too scared or too indifferent to speak out against what they knew to be wrong. Until it was too late.

NATIONAL SOCIALISM...

Nope not in england.... take a look at scotland though

Kaija · 28/02/2017 19:16

No idea whether any astroturfers are still about on here, but going to post this again for anyone who missed it who might still be harbouring ideas of the Trump and Brexit votes representing "people's" revolutions.
