'Our Tony' in yet another lie shocker Shock

He is pathological.

howabout · 21/02/2017 08:31

What was that about power tending to corrupt?

howabout · 21/02/2017 17:20

"Parties which start preaching wishful thinking instead of listening to voters’ concerns deserve chaos."

"This, indeed, is by far the most important change in the Labour Party in recent decades. Whereas the Left-wingers sound like they always have – see, for example, Jeremy Corbyn – the Right-wingers have changed dramatically. On most issues, people like Hilary Benn, Owen Smith and Gareth Snell (the Labour candidate in the upcoming Stoke Central by-election) sound nothing like Clement Attlee, and an awful lot like full-blown Lib Dem internationalists such as Nick Clegg and Tim Farron.

Attlee, for example, was highly suspicious of the Schuman plan (the 1950s blueprint for the European Community). Why? Partly because he doubted that the European project would benefit workers. And partly because he had experienced, in the 1930s, the devastating practical consequences of relying on the internationalists to maintain peace."

Really interesting take on why the Labour Party are having such a problem adapting to Brexit.

Good article howabout, definitely rings true re the modern day politicians who have pretty much gone from extended education to political spheres, completely bypassing the 'real' world along the way.

The last para mentions handing the keys to a realist, but unfortunately the shouty, sharp elbowed party affiliates (who are more politically in line with Lib non-Dems) won't bugger off!!

"...The email explained that to ‘recognise and appreciate Farron’s true greatness’ he must be referred to, from now on, as the ‘Glorious Leader’. In addition the email stated that Liberal Democrats should halt and salute when they see Farron, and that any speeches he makes should be followed by a standing ovation lasting ‘at least 10 minutes’..."

Not so fake news:

howabout · 22/02/2017 10:48

I have no idea what would be the least worst option in France but I have to say if these are the best 3 candidates then it is probably for the best that they have the EU constraining them.

I suspect Fillon would be the most pragmatic in Brexit negotiations, having seen a Macron interview pre-Brexit ref in which he was extremely dismissive of the UK. His performance in London yesterday reinforced this impression, but does rather beg the question - if France is so much better a place to do business and get educated than the UK why is everyone not already there?

howabout · 22/02/2017 10:56

Eat your heart out Macron.

I don't think he is going to be keen on preferential EU deal for Scotland.

TheFullMrexit · 22/02/2017 11:04

Bored I have been on other thread about head scarf and le pen, someone mentioned she has Muslim support. I had a quick google and didn't throw up anything significant however I did come across piece from jounro who went into area around Paris largely populated by people from North Africa. The people he spoke to were muslim and rather like the Trump thing felt no threat from Le Penn at all, they said they felt protected by law in that respect however that they have been massively let down by Left and center right politics and would indeed.....vote le penn Shock so from that small sample....just goes to show - .....re peoples assumptions, Muslims must all hate Le Penn....

boredofbrexit · 22/02/2017 11:21

'real' people, whatever their persuasion perfer 'real' politicians, whatever their persuasion almost.

and the inverse of that is that fake virtue signallers prefer a mirror of themselves so no-one calls them out.

the totalitarian mindset and suppression of diversity - when its not a diversity on their approved list ie one that cannot be pitied or hectored or shamed - of the edges of left (and right to be fair) is being totally trashed by social media.

scaryteacher · 22/02/2017 11:46

I cannot see why the French would vote for Macron - an investment banker enarque - almost as bad as posh boys in the UK really.

Infinite, I totally agree - Bored's post at 11.21 is up there (amongst a few others) as being one of the best posts I have read to date.

SouthallGirl · 22/02/2017 14:09

It's interesting to see the use of "the totalitarian mindset" on MN. I've always accused the ultra Left, the Regressive Left, of being totalitarians and have always been jumped on and trampled underfoot. P'raps it's different in this pub ......

real people, whatever their persuasion prefer 'real' politicians
This is true, and don't forget that many of these various peoples come from countries where there is no democracy, so they are naturally going to cleave to who they perceive to be a person with definite opinions and who can lead.
