Where's the landlady? Surfer?
We've been advised of a a lock in and it's reported that the jukebox has been stuck playing Pulp - Common People - all night.

I can well believe that the true story of the election was more about Clinton doing badly rather than Trump doing well.
Or that Obama was the 'outlier' rather than the normal, as I've seen to the counter to that argument. Clinton's vote is not that different to previous democrats. Indeed she got more votes than Bill.

I wonder if it's worth thinking about this point, reframe it:
Sometimes my child says she hates me. She does this to provoke, usually because she feels thwarted or over ruled. She doesn't mean she hates me though, she hates the way she feels because of the situation she finds herself in. I have to remind her of this and try and find a way of reasoning with her. But if we are both angry, this doesn't work and we both slam out
Eventually though, no matter how the incident is dealt with, because there is mutual respect, it resolves itself.

Is it the mutual respect, and the human connection that makes this possible, and is this what is missing in society?

Yes, definitely at least an element of that. Perhaps more than a small element.

Sorry guys but I'll have to pass on the video. I got to 44 seconds. Maybe I'll try just listening without the visuals, too distracting.

What does the Brexit Arms mixed-bag clientele think of this by EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker: "We will need to teach the president-elect what Europe is and how it works", adding that two years would be wasted while Mr Trump "tours a world he doesn't know".

StripeyMonkey1 · 12/11/2016 21:05

Hi Bored. Personally, think his statement was poorly judged. There would have been better ways to express any concerns about Donald Trump - Angela Merkel's statement being a good example.

Having said that, Trump is a "shoot from the hip" guy. Maybe he will respect Juncker for giving his views straight. Also, it is early days and positions can change.

RedToothBrush · 12/11/2016 21:07

Bored, I've seen the suggestion that Juncker was having one of his public drunk moments.

Boredofbrexit · 12/11/2016 21:10

Yes, pretty much agree with both of these replies.
I wondered if Junkers comments were really a jab at Farage?

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 12/11/2016 21:24

Nah if he was having a pop at Farage, he'd just have a pop at Farage. No need for subtly.

winterisnigh · 12/11/2016 21:28

Well Farage has said - Trump hates the EU more than he does, which is some claim is it not Grin

Why Trump should hate the EU though so much I don't know! If he does then I think he will simply use this comment to re affirm his views and treat them like an annoying fly.
I mean If I was Juncker or Merkel right now, I wouldn't be in a good place and yes Its highly likely I may take comfort in brandy. Its a joke, its laughable..and the threats today from that German minister - how bloody Arrogant, what the hell does he know about what the US may or may not do with us!

StripeyMonkey1 · 12/11/2016 21:37

Right now I think we (most of all), but also other EU countries, need to establish a relationship and dialogue with Trump. He hasn't done anything truly awful (yet at least) and will be leading a country which is essentially one of our allies.

We need to treat him as we do leaders of other countries. It is not right to hold America to a higher standard. If we can do deals with China, we can do deals with the US.

StripeyMonkey1 · 12/11/2016 21:41

I'm more concerned about Theresa May's power grab personally. Even if you agree with her policies, it is not good for the UK long term.

time4chocolate · 12/11/2016 21:45

Aarrgghh typed a lengthy post and then I lost the whole thing. Anyway the gist of it was pretty much what other posters have said.

I don't think that is the best way to work on EU/US relations especially in light of the arrogant comments coming from Mr Shafer today (which I think winter made reference to). It's quite a good way to p* of DT and put yourself at the back of the queue I would have thought.

They are very arrogant and have too high an opinion of themselves.

Boredofbrexit · 12/11/2016 21:59

I am so not sure of TM, never have been. I don't know if I could vote for her. But I have clear memories of shitting it that Leadsom would get in. Or Gove, duplicitous .

It's good to see pictures of Farrage that haven't been carefully chosen to make him look like a gurning idiot. We've been playing a media game for a while now where the papers/online news etc score points for the worst photo of Nigel with extra points if it's paired with a photo full of gravitas of anyone who opposes him.that sort of invidious media bias really annoys me, turning it into a game turns it on its head.

howabout · 13/11/2016 08:19

twitter.com/Nigel_Farage

NF making the absolute most of his relationship with DT. That is surely how to make the President Elect of your closest ally feel "special".

Really, really want Ed Balls to return to Parliament - and I say that as someone who was annoyed because I felt Yvette had stepped aside to allow him to become shadow chancellor. EB has rehabilitated Gangnam style after all the clips of KV making an exactly what he is of himself.

surferjet · 13/11/2016 08:34

I see lego have succumbed to the fascist left's 'stop funding hate' campaign. Crazed control freaks at it again.

Last time I buy lego.

Southallgirl · 13/11/2016 09:21

So how does making ok to voice such hatred and providing it with a outlet channel help?

Precisely, Bear. So much hate words and actions have come from the Left on Brexit and Trump. It shows inability to debate, i.e. one person speaks without interruption and screeching, and then another person speaks. That's debate.

Kaija · 13/11/2016 09:39

Lego can spend their money how they like. As can their customers. Where is the fascism here?

Kaija · 13/11/2016 09:42

I mean it's not like we're short of things that could be described as fascist right now, but this is a bizarre one to pick

howabout · 13/11/2016 09:46

Good interview with JC on Andrew Marr. Excellent articulation of how to deal with Brexit from the progressive Left.

Got my fingers in my ears about Lego and I assume there will be a good deal of corporate repositioning in many quarters fairly swiftly.

jaws5 · 13/11/2016 09:54

it's not like we're short of things that could be described as fascist right now, but this is a bizarre one to pick exactly...
