Why is this a good thing? You can support Brexit and hate trump and what he stands for. You do realise?

Not so much an assumption I feel.

Believeitornot · 09/11/2016 10:01

What do you mean? Not so much an assumption? Confused

MangoMoon · 09/11/2016 10:23

Am a Leave voter and still happy with my decision so this is not reflective of my sentiments, but this made me lol today:

^BRITAIN: Brexit was the stupidest, most self-destructive act a country could undertake.

USA: Hold my drink...^

MangoMoon · 09/11/2016 10:25

Also on FB:

Don't worry America!
Nicola Sturgeon doesn't agree with the result.
S'ok, she'll sort it.
(She's powerful like that you know...)

MangoMoon · 09/11/2016 10:28

I wish people would vote for what they actually want rather than using it to protest against something else.

What was their choices?
Hilary 'more of the same' Clinton

OR

Donald 'vote for change' Trump

What way/who for, should the people who didn't want more of the same have voted?

Bearbehind · 09/11/2016 10:34

mango I'm not sure what your point is as you've just reiterated what I said.

A vote for Trump seems very similar to that for Leave in that it wasn't necessarily a positive choice, more a protest against the alternative.

It's a very dangerous path we're all heading down now because an awful lot of people are willing to make these blind leaps thinking they're proving a point when the reality is it is going to bite them on the arse in one way or another because what they actually want wasn't on offer.

MangoMoon · 09/11/2016 10:54

Sorry, wasn't clear.
What I meant was that they effectively had no choice.

To vote against Trump was to vote for Hilary - and by voting for Hilary you are effectively green lighting carrying on as before.
At least in this country we have more options for protest votes.

Wrt Brexit, I voted as I wanted to, not as a protest so can't comment on Brexit as a protest.

IamWendy · 09/11/2016 11:35

I like how remainers are now demanding answers from leave voters despite the us election having exactly nothing to do with us!

BoredofBrexit · 09/11/2016 11:42

Wendy, they need 'evidence' you know. Facts. By Experts.Wink

OP posts:
MangoMoon · 09/11/2016 11:49

Apparently it does though Wendy!

Watching the news, apparently 'the Brexit effect' is being cited by quite a few countries as the reason for Trump's win.

Our little laughing stock joke of a country who nobody takes seriously.
Vs
Brexit & Britain have caused massive upset in American politics.

It's like schrodinger's country...
(To quote the over quoted fucking cat analogy).

jaws5 · 09/11/2016 11:50

Wendy Nothing to do with you?

Well well well, President Trump eh?Farage is now mates with the top man in the world, Brexit here we come Grin
Lefties whinging again Wendy. Bad bad losers.God bless America
Bet the London Mayor wishes he'd been a bit more ..welcoming...now. And Wee Nicola

all from Page 1 of this thread today

BoredofBrexit · 09/11/2016 11:55

Doesn't Wendy mean the US election result had nothing to do with leave supporting posters on mumsnet?Confused. I think you must have stayed up all night watching the election bear, seem to be a bit discombobulated.

Jaws, Bear & Believe - seriously... step away from this thread and leave the others to their mutual self-congratulatory back-slapping.
There is enough shit going on in the world without you getting yourselves properly wound up by these people.

IamWendy · 09/11/2016 12:12

bored has it. I mean brexiteers didn't actually get a vote the us election. Not our doing. It's that damnable democracy again!

Believeitornot · 09/11/2016 12:13
surferjet · 09/11/2016 12:21

Blame culture alive & kicking, leavers being blamed for Trumps victory now. Hmm
Maybe it's just millions of ordinary Americans were sick of the elite ( the Clintons ) not listening to them?
Ignore people's concerns at your peril.

Believeitornot · 09/11/2016 12:28

It is more the idea that people think that trump is a good thing for the country.

That is my issue. Take a step back - why would you be happy that a racist sexist "let's build a wall" merchant got the vote.
Something is wrong.

It isn't time to applaud, it is time to ask why are people doing this?

jaws5 · 09/11/2016 12:34

twofingerstoGideon I know you're right. I am trying to understand what the celebrations are about, but you're right and I will never get a cogent answer from here apart from Democraceeeeee shouted in my face...

surferjet · 09/11/2016 12:40

That is the only answer. What answer do you want?
People are asked to vote in a democratic way and that's what they do.
You may not like the result but that's really your problem isn't it.
It's surprising how many lefties actually want to live in a dictatorship. Actually no it isn't.

BoredofBrexit · 09/11/2016 12:52

Fancy doing a bit of blaming myself - what about this: Thomas Frank writes today, in the Guardian (snark), "Donald Trump is moving to the White House and the liberals put him there'.
Appreciate if someone could link please.

I know you're right twofingers however I'm always drawn back because some of the comments made during the mutal congratulations really should go unchecked.

Having said that, it's been repeatedly made very clear that that it is exactly what the intentions of some posters is i.e keep the conversation going by continually provoking the situation.

surferjet · 09/11/2016 13:18

As political threads go this is very calm & quiet. I've just seen active convos and every other thread is about the U.S election, I'm sure there's plenty of other people you can go and 'check up on' - I don't post anywhere other than this thread because I personally can't be bothered.
I'm very easy to avoid.

Corcory · 09/11/2016 14:04

I can see why remainers might link Brexit to the Trump vote. H said it often enough himself.
I, as a leaver certainly detest the man. I have ever since I saw him in a documentary Selina Scott did many years ago when he was building his Atlanta Casinos. He tries it on with her and when she would have none of it he tried to get the BBC to stop showing the documentary and when they didn't tried to sue!
I have always found him a nasty lying B. . . . . . ! and he certainly was true to form in the election. The idea of this man with the temperament he has being commander in chief of the American Forces gives me grave concerns as he would have no sanctions on what he does in that role. He would have the code to push the button and he had no idea what doing that might actually do when he asked what the problem might be to doing it at a security meeting not long ago.
Saints preserve us!

The only thing I can say is that he did say the UK would be at the front of the queue for a trade deal.

Believeitornot · 09/11/2016 14:16

What do you mean that is the only answer?

Does anyone actually believe that Trump will deliver on his promises? What politician ever has?

He's got in because he has said the right things. However his record doesn't really hold him up to be a man for the people. That's my concern.

InfiniteSheldon · 09/11/2016 14:26

I absolutely will look my daughter in the eye and say under no fucking circumstances tolerate a sexually abusive cheat you are worth more. Any woman who stays married in those circumstances isn't worth anything I'd rather have Trump than Hilary. Be very ashamed that you would encourage your daughter to aim so low
