I think Obama has played a very good diplomatic game esp with regards to ISIS, he has down played them, and walked tightrope well, and yet behind the scenes US as ever has been doing an awful lot to defeat them in ME. But in public I believe his strategy has been perfect.

As for the March I am all for it. I think its a good time to show that Leavers are still here, waiting....we have not gone away...and we do not regret our vote.

fakenamefornow · 08/11/2016 12:49

Remainers.
is there anything you don't like about the EU?
anything at all?

Loads I don't like, I can give you a big long list if you want. Despite that, being in the EU is still a million times better than the alternative, and I am really, really fearful of the future and the hatred and venom a lot of Leavers seem to have not only have for the EU but for some other people and even now the UK system of Gov, Law and democracy. Example, even the DM have admitted that on the point of Law, this ruling was correct but Farage is calling for a march on the courts, he wants the law of the land to be ignored because he doesn't like what it says.

WinchesterWoman · 08/11/2016 12:50

Remainers had loads of marches. Why do they want to cause trouble at this one.

fakenamefornow · 08/11/2016 12:55

Actually that poem has just come to mind. :)

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— (the EU)
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— (the Judges)
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— (the Gov)
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

autumnintheair · 08/11/2016 12:57

I wonder if Geldof will come out again and shout at people from a limo?

autumnintheair · 08/11/2016 12:59

The socialists, ummm....they have a clean slate with regards to past misdemeanors do they?

Nothing scary or frightening about them?

WinchesterWoman · 08/11/2016 13:02

It's brexiteers they're coming for

surferjet · 08/11/2016 13:16

Exactly WW, it's us they're coming for.

OP posts:
jaws5 · 08/11/2016 13:19

Well ww isn't it great that you have those freedom fighters, Farage, IDS, Davis, Johnsson, etc. on your side? All against the "Establishment". A bunch of hypocritical millionaires, positioning themselves against half the population, all fighting for the votes of the racists and xenophobes. Lovely

vulpeculaveritas · 08/11/2016 13:41

"Remainers had loads of marches. Why do they want to cause trouble at this one."

I was part of one of these marches and there were plenty of counter demonstrations going on, and some awful threats etc being issued by the leave side.

WinchesterWoman · 08/11/2016 13:48

Jaws what?

Vulpa I predict more than threats from the hard left if brexiteers march

WinchesterWoman · 08/11/2016 13:50

Maybe you're interpreting something as a threat that wasn't

The left will start fights and say 'look at all the violent rbrexiteers'

vulpeculaveritas · 08/11/2016 13:55

Sorry WW but the behaviour of the people doing the anti protesting was vile, they were definitely of the EDL persuasion and some very bad behaviour from some home counties looking types.

There are extremists on every side.

"The left will start fights and say 'look at all the violent rbrexiteers'"

Frankly that is bollocks, the only people arrested or behaving badly on any of the pro EU marches I've been on have been those who've turned up to counter it.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 08/11/2016 14:02

Yes, same experience here.

vulpeculaveritas · 08/11/2016 14:04

So direct experience of it Vs the fear of it.

Trends abound.

twofingerstoGideon · 08/11/2016 14:09

The left will start fights and say 'look at all the violent rbrexiteers'
You know there will be violent brexiteers there, don't you? Farage's call to arms is just what people like Britain First, EDL, BNP etc have been waiting for. He is such an irresponsible dickhead.

jaws5 · 08/11/2016 14:18

I was at the last EU march, I only saw families like mine, and lots of lovely people, really inclusive multicultural atmosphere. I heard there were some thuggish BNP types in the fringes being quite threatening though....

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 08/11/2016 14:18

The march I was at was extremely peaceful, except
a) a mad woman flapping an umbrella at us in the manner of the racist woman in Father Ted episode where he upsets the Chinese community, shrieking 'democraceeeee!'
b)some skinheads shouting 'what about democracy' whilst a very measured academic explained the exact constitutional nature of an advisory referendum.

Since the referendum, Remain voters have been angry, obviously. They have written articles, they have made speeches, and they have gone on marches carrying banners with whimsical puns. What they have not done is abused people on buses, attacked people in the streets, shouted IMMIGRANT in anyone's face, called for the judiciary to be controlled by government (where government agrees with 48% of the people.

It's not the Remainers whose violence I fear.

This is an excellent point. Protests by the 48% have been very peaceful (writing to MPs and all the other stuff that Seek mentions) and god knows we've had a lot to complain about and react to.

It's brexiteers they're coming for - this comment is laughable really given the actual facts.

autumnintheair "The socialists, ummm....they have a clean slate with regards to past misdemeanors do they?"

That's not the point of fakename 's post, she was paraphrasing a famous poem/statement that is about not keeping your head down and letting bad things happen to other people.

Breadandwine · 08/11/2016 16:09

vulpeculaveritas, one of the forecasts I've seen about the US election is for Hillary to win and that the democrats may take the Senate with 51 seats. Would this make it any easier for Hillary? I know the House is out of reach. Sad
