I am delighted to find out that what I wrote was read out though - I did not know it would be so all I wrote was 'eurosceptic but not a racist' which summed up my views on the whole process Confused

what was read out where, are you saying not only the DM lifts stories from here but now politicans do?

autumnintheair · 07/11/2016 21:16

time

I am wondering whether to stay up or not, what time do you think results will start to come in?

autumnintheair · 07/11/2016 21:20

Never been successful with gnocchi. Try tomato sauce, cheese sauce and crispy bacon, mushrooms and garlic

^^ we tried this in the end sans bacon, its a strange stuff isn't it Hmm may try it once more with blue cheese.

The thing about the US is their constitutional set-up is designed to avoid any president fucking it up too much - there is a school of thought saying President Trump wouldn't be so bad because of this.

Conversely, DH and I were just discussing how Obama has been way less awesome than we thought he'd be, because of said set-up.

Because we in the UK don't have the written constitution, we are reliant on our independent judiciary to rule on whether someone is overstepping their powers or not, hence the Brexit hoo-ha this week

Corcory · 07/11/2016 21:32

But Accio - Trump would also be commander in chief of the forces with little or no restraint on him. He could launch anything he liked without any need for discussion.
The worst off people in a possible Trump president are the other nations. He doesn't seem to think the US should join in with Nato and protect countries like the Ukraine if they were invaded by Russia.

GloriaGaynor · 07/11/2016 21:32

I agree the US runs itself whether the president is senile (Ronnie) or stoopid (Dubya).

However, they were quite happy to sit back. Trump would endlessly tinker with trade deals, CIA, nuclear weapons... until he was shot from a grassy knoll.

WinchesterWoman · 07/11/2016 21:33

One ish I think between one and two am we should have a clear idea

That's 28 hours away

WinchesterWoman · 07/11/2016 21:34

time4chocolate · 07/11/2016 21:35

Gosh we should try to find each other

AccioMerlot · 07/11/2016 22:09

"Will any one march to the Supreme Court?"

Well, I was thinking no, and then I saw this article:

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/nov/07/bond-traders-trots-mumsnet-left-centre-farages-mob

and now I'm thinking maybe.

In Britain, since the high-court decision, and with the tabloids ramping up their attack on the judiciary, people have been asking: what do Jonathan Harmsworth, owner of the Daily Mail, and Rupert Murdoch want? What would make them stop?
The answer is: they want Britain ruled by a xenophobic mob, controlled by them. The policies are secondary – as long as their legal offshore tax-dodging facilities are maintained. They also want a Labour party they can control and a Tory party they can intimidate.

I think I'm prepared to stand up and fight against that - I think my country is worth fighting for.

time4chocolate · 07/11/2016 22:20

Accio - I'd call that provocation but if you want to be part of that then fine.

The media would like nothing more than for that to happen, it makes for great articles.

WinchesterWoman · 08/11/2016 04:51

Oh god I forgot we were fascists

I must be getting old

Now where did I put my specs

WinchesterWoman · 08/11/2016 04:59

Time don't worry: provocation doesn't go under the wire any more. There will be people there watching for hard left provocation and filming it. The hard left will definitely be planning to start trouble. They're pretty much uncontrollable.
