The Great Ormond Street Hospital lady on QT last night is now under attack from the Mail. They are twisting her words and calling for her to be sacked.

Unbelievable.

I am beginning to despair now.

the death threats are appalling, as appalling as wishing illness on children as payback of some sort.

Peregrina · 05/11/2016 14:05

If a UKIP type said something racist, would you make an excuse that they "mangled" their words?

Since June, a lot of people would say that they agreed with them.

RortyCrankle · 05/11/2016 14:17

What she said was disgusting and shameful and I hope she loses her job. But she's not alone is she - we have posters on here who desperately wanted Nissan to pull out of Sunderland to teach the Leavers from there a lesson. Also disgusting and shameful but unfortunately, or fortunately for them, they can hide their identity behind the anonymity of a forum. No less disgraceful. I can't even begin to imagine what sort of person wishes others ill to prove a political point. The lowest of the low IMO.

oliviafrombolivia · 05/11/2016 14:36

some hardcore bitterness here. Sad how this has divided people so much.

iwanttoridemybicycle · 05/11/2016 14:44

I am sure if I was on QT I would get my words mixed up and not say exactly what I meant to, we're not all professional speakers.

I knew exactly what she meant as did most people watching I suspect but let's not let common sense intervene, let's burn her at the stake for the Remain demon she is Hmm

birdybirdywoofwoof · 05/11/2016 14:52

People feel far more strongly about what someone says on QT, than the devastating effect Brexit will have on health and research, or the bullying of the press.

I get it Rorty, honestly I do.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 05/11/2016 14:53

Im waiting to find out if I got tickets for QT v. soon.

I'll let you know if I'm on it!

SapphireStrange · 05/11/2016 15:19

I think she just expressed herself badly, too.

Caprianna · 05/11/2016 15:29

Clumsy but I understand what she wanted to say.

I am scared of all the hatred around at the moment. I think news papers like the Mail are very dangerous and I think people will get hurt.

As an immigrant who has lived her for over 20 years I am seriously considering leaving and go back home to civilisation.

jaws5 · 05/11/2016 15:33

It was obvious to anybody watching that she didn't mean that she hoped any children would become ill, maybe it came out wrong but what she meant was clear: A professional who deeply cares about her job and patients, who sees the consequences of leaving the EU in terms of research and human and economic capital. Obvious to all except people with very dark hearts.

AutumnLeavesAgain · 05/11/2016 15:35

Olivia thanks for replying.

Elements I was not hinting. From what I see it is used as a bit of a get out clause for things that perhaps in the past we were not saying for fear of offence. It's an improvement in many ways that we express ourselves , especially in interpersonal relationships! But taboos such as not wishing ill on opponents' children are still out there. Social media is making people forget this a bit perhaps? Comments on Question Time will get a different reaction from your connections online or in your workplace.

I am not expressing myself here as I would intend perhaps. But I know better than to expose myself on mainstream tv.

jaws5 · 05/11/2016 15:35

Shame on the DM and their readers. Absolutely disgusting and fascistic, even by the DM's very low standards.

AutumnLeavesAgain · 05/11/2016 15:36

I hope I don't have a dark heart.

funnyandwittyusername · 05/11/2016 15:41

"I want the people who are leaving to have a child that unfortunately needs the treatment and it not be there"

What's difficult to understand there? It's not ambiguous. The leaps posters are making to defend her here are amazing. Her choice of language is very clear

AutumnLeavesAgain · 05/11/2016 15:45

Tbh I will just say GingerIvy but it all better than I could earlier in the thread.

AutumnLeavesAgain · 05/11/2016 15:46

Put not but!

rainyinnovember · 05/11/2016 15:55

If this woman was really concerned about treatment not being available on the NHS, she could choose to solely work for the NHS and not split her time between the NHS and private clinics. She does not do this.

joangray38 · 05/11/2016 16:00

If she had left it at there may not be a medical prof who is qualified to treat your child she may well be right tho. Two close family friends are both EU nationals and are 2 of the few people who can do certain ops (any more would out them). She ruined the point by wishing illness on specific children

Aderyn2016 · 05/11/2016 17:10

I think the people with dark hearts are ones who would wish sickness on innocent children because they want to make a point to their parents and the ones who turn themselves inside out attempting to justify it!

birdybirdywoofwoof · 05/11/2016 17:14

I think the people with stupid hearts are the ones obsessing over what some woman on QT mistakenly said and deliberately ignoring (what she also said) what a massive disaster Brexit means for science and research in this country.

iwanttoridemybicycle · 05/11/2016 17:16

Well said Birdy

OP posts:
Bejazzled · 05/11/2016 17:21

She didn't "mistakenly say it" though, did she? It was deliberate and callous.
Unfortunately for her, her point was lost because of her own nastiness.

Wookiecookies · 05/11/2016 17:41

Dark hearts? Right... well clearly this discussion is going nowhere constructive.

Biscuit TTFN

GplanAddict · 05/11/2016 19:32

Dark stupid hearts??? MN at it's finest.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 05/11/2016 19:40

Why thank you

It's the new mumsnet innit, where the affect of brexit on science and research is hardly worth a mention (indeed poster admits she doesnt have a clue) but a woman who cack handedly attempts to draw people's attention to how devastating this will be for the Nhs deserves a national pasting.

Slow hand clap all round.
