THE BREXIT FALLOUT CONTINUES - THREAD NINE

The Tories have settled their scores and May is now PM.
Is it May's Day or May Day for the people?

After careful consideration I thought the best way to sum up the Labour Contest was in one simple picture. May Day, might also be appropriate here too.

Things are moving fast, so hold on tight for the Brexit Ride

Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Greening is Education. So that is one less place for Hunt.

prettybird · 14/07/2016 12:17

BigChocFrenzy - May doesn't have much choice about Scottish Secretary, if she wants it to be someone who can defend/promote WM's policies as they relate to Scotland in the Chamber.

Unless she goes to the House of Lords (Michael Forsyth? Michelle Mone?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/07/2016 12:18

Hunt's just gone into no. 10 so he's got something. Please oh please let it not be Health, though.

squoosh · 14/07/2016 12:20

I hope Hunt gets the Energy job.

CaveMum · 14/07/2016 12:20

squoosh · 14/07/2016 12:21

Whaaat? He's keeping the Health job?!

BigChocFrenzy · 14/07/2016 12:22

The UK remains in the single market and every other aspect of the EU until the 2 years are up and it actually leaves.

A50 will probably not be invoked for months, because of having to get repeal of the European Act through the HoC, HoL and maybe beat legal challenges beforehand.
Even the 2 years negotiation can be extended if all parties agree more time is needed.

So, there is time to rethink the single market issue, including during the negotiators - if necessary to get a deal that won't hurt the economy any more than it has already been hurt.

Right now though, the government have to sound their toughest on Brexit and do their best to get unicorns

Lawyers think that the UK can still revoke A50 right up until actually leaving the EU after the deal.
So, there could be a final referendum in 2 ½ years with a choice Remain in EU / accept this Brexit Deal

Thegirlinthefireplace · 14/07/2016 12:24

Hunt obviously doesn't bother TM - he doesn't have sufficient influence to hang onto his job if she wanted to boot him.
We must remember this is still a Tory government, even if One Nation

colouringinagain · 14/07/2016 12:29

Really disappointed re Health Sad

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 12:29

What, Hunt has not been sacked from Health?!

PattyPenguin · 14/07/2016 12:31

Of course if the Tories are deliberately trying to crash the NHS in order to bring in a more American model, keeping Hunt in place makes perfect sense.

Am I being paranoid I don't think so?

JamieVardysParty · 14/07/2016 12:31

Wonder if it will be DWP for Crabbe? Can't remember if that's still open.

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2016 12:32

Ok I am starting to think TM is not an evil genius.

Email from the Fabian today (we moved on, I know)
Dear Friend,

As you know, the Labour Party has announced a leadership election. Members of the Fabian Society are entitled to vote in the contest, even if they are not Labour party members of six months standing. If you were a member of the Labour party on the 13 January 2016 you do not need to take any action. If you are not a Labour member or joined the party after 13 January your Fabian membership entitles you to register as an affiliated supporter of the party and vote in the leadership election. However, you need to register yourself as a supporter, by following the link below. We can't do this for you.

Register as an affiliated supporter of the Labour party >>

Please note that if you are already eligible to vote in the leadership contest you will not receive an extra vote as a Fabian member (ie members of the Labour Party before 13 January 2016 and/or members of other affiliated organisations).

If you have friends who are considering joining the Fabian Society so that they can vote in the leadership election, please note that we are waiting to hear from the Labour party in terms of whether members who join the Fabians from yesterday onwards will be eligiable to vote. Once we have more information we will provide an update.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to remind you that Fabian members have a very wide range of views, across the full spectrum of Labour politics. We do not have an organisational view on the Labour party's current leadership contest and our rules state that they society shall not endorse a leadership candidate. We conitnue to look foward to providing a space for comradery and courteous debate for members, whatever their views on Labour's current position.

Best wishes,

Andrew Harrop
General Secretary

enochroot · 14/07/2016 12:34

Oh bugger. Is Hunt staying?

ObiWanCannelloni · 14/07/2016 12:34

Hunt staying - is that just another sign she's making the ones who've made a shitty mess stay behind to clear it up before shuffling them out in a year or so's time

Chalalala · 14/07/2016 12:35

RIP, NHS.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 14/07/2016 12:36

I think it's another sign that she wants rid of the nhs asap
