Email from the Fabian today (we moved on, I know)
Dear Friend,
As you know, the Labour Party has announced a leadership election. Members of the Fabian Society are entitled to vote in the contest, even if they are not Labour party members of six months standing. If you were a member of the Labour party on the 13 January 2016 you do not need to take any action. If you are not a Labour member or joined the party after 13 January your Fabian membership entitles you to register as an affiliated supporter of the party and vote in the leadership election. However, you need to register yourself as a supporter, by following the link below. We can't do this for you.
Register as an affiliated supporter of the Labour party >>
Please note that if you are already eligible to vote in the leadership contest you will not receive an extra vote as a Fabian member (ie members of the Labour Party before 13 January 2016 and/or members of other affiliated organisations).
If you have friends who are considering joining the Fabian Society so that they can vote in the leadership election, please note that we are waiting to hear from the Labour party in terms of whether members who join the Fabians from yesterday onwards will be eligiable to vote. Once we have more information we will provide an update.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to remind you that Fabian members have a very wide range of views, across the full spectrum of Labour politics. We do not have an organisational view on the Labour party's current leadership contest and our rules state that they society shall not endorse a leadership candidate. We conitnue to look foward to providing a space for comradery and courteous debate for members, whatever their views on Labour's current position.
Best wishes,
Andrew Harrop
General Secretary
