Teresa May or Andrea Leadsom?

So without starting anything too politically fraught I wonder if people would share with me who they prefer for conservative leadership out of the two.

The race is now down to them and so we will have a female PM again!

Opinions?

Leasdom??? are you 'aving a larrf?

derxa · 08/07/2016 22:19

Neither fill my heart with joy but Theresa May is massively more experienced a politician and a recognized tough negotiator and that's what we need.
Let's hope to God people understand this. It's not a game. People's livelihoods depend upon it.

NAOMI2006 · 08/07/2016 22:24

Hi. Theresa May definitely. Andrea Leadsom is lightweight. Her city career she didn't get a top position and many people in the know say she has added embellishment to her cv. Read Peter Norris, chairman of Barings and now chair of Virgin Money, has to say about her. He never even remembered her involvement with Barings so she clearly didn't leave a lasting impression! If she was that good, why hasn't she got to the top before now. I think we need a very steady experienced person right now and not take risks. We don't want to end up like the Labour Party mess.

Carpaccio · 08/07/2016 22:35

Leadsom really is nasty here. Yuck.

Teresa May or Andrea Leadsom?
rookiemere · 08/07/2016 22:38

Jeez, she's really scraping the barrel with the fox hunting and the being a mother. Trouble is that the tory members may lap all this rubbish up.
It worries me that it's so long before they vote, plenty of time for the media to come up with a positive spin on this - mind you if what we've seen is the best they can do, then fingers crossed she won't get in.

daisychain01 · 08/07/2016 23:27

As of about 10 mins ago, I would want AL to be PM

How low down is that, gloating "how sad TM must be not having any DC" I thought vile bag.

No way could I respect someone who'd stoop that low. She must be desperate

TM is much more dignified

daisychain01 · 08/07/2016 23:29

Wouldn't
Wouldn't
Wouldn't

In case of doubt Grin

Andrea Loathsome

JudyCoolibar · 08/07/2016 23:30

Has anyone seen her Facebook page? There is some appallingly racist and prejudiced rubbish on there.

Inkanta · 08/07/2016 23:32

Carp - that headline apparently isn't true. Andrea Leadsom has responded on Twitter with these words about it -

'Truly appalling and the exact opposite of what I said. I am disgusted.'

IrishDad79 · 08/07/2016 23:33

Leadsom is denying she said that. But if she did it was incredibly stupid and nasty. We'll see how the times respond.

StrictlyMumDancing · 08/07/2016 23:34

'Truly appalling and the exact opposite of what I said. I am disgusted.'
Oh so not being a mum gives May the edge Wink

tava63 · 08/07/2016 23:35

There is a high chance of this being an example of a phenomenon known as the glass cliff www.linkedin.com/pulse/think-crisis-female-why-women-leaders-confront-glass-cliff-cooper so the real question is as BertramRussell posted is who could come next. From an experience point of view you would expect it to be TM but given that we live in a cult of personality there is a real possibility of it being AL. Hopefully the members of the Conservative Party will have realised the impact of the vote on their nest eggs and make the least worst choice TM.

JudyCoolibar · 08/07/2016 23:42

Her denial of the tweet in itself appears to be a pack of lies - politicalscrapbook.net/2016/07/andrea-leadsoms-team-claim-overrun-by-foreigners-tweet-never-existed-heres-proof-it-did/

Carpaccio · 09/07/2016 00:06

Inkanta - I've seen. We'll see what The Times have to say about that. I'm certainly interested.

I must admit that I don't have a lot of trust in Leadsom and her ability to stick to the truth.

Her CV seems to be ripped to bits by several people.

Also, her statements about single mothers, unmarried couples, gay couples adopting, Britain's AAA status and so on make me quite uncomfortable: metro.co.uk/2016/07/07/here-are-some-brilliantly-bizarre-things-andrea-leadsom-believes-5993147/

People who have worked with her claim that she was terrible at her job.

Leave won and all that, but she drove around in that bus with that big fat £350m lie on it.

And her financial affairs also do not make me want to vote for her: www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jul/04/andrea-leadsom-financial-affairs-scrutiny-conservative-party-leadership-race

I also don't like this idea at all:
Andrea Leadsom Tried To Abolish All Worker’s Rights For Small Companies In 2012
'No minimum wage, no maternity or paternity rights'

Inkanta · 09/07/2016 00:09

Even if you read the article you can see how they have stretched the context of her interview.

bridgetoc · 09/07/2016 00:10

It should have been a contest between Boris and May.

justicewomen · 09/07/2016 00:10

Infanta... Sam Coates of the Times has put what he describes as transcript of the key section of the interview on twitter. I don't know how to link to it

justicewomen · 09/07/2016 00:13

Sorry I meant Inkanta

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 09/07/2016 00:16

Transcript of the interview tweeted by the Times reporter here

It's pretty damning imo.

SomethingOnce · 09/07/2016 00:31

It does feel like after the immigrants, the educated and liberal middle class is next.

Can somebody explain this assertion please? Next for what?

On the face of it, it's one of the most absurd things I've ever read on MN, but I might have missed the point.

BeJayKayven · 09/07/2016 00:35

Seems she meant what she said then. Doesn't TM have some medical issues relating to not having had children ( her business, no one elses but if so the comments are even more vile)

Inkanta · 09/07/2016 00:39

Murdoch journalism at it's lowest if you ask me.

Whatever you think of Murdoch journalism, and frankly it can be dismal, Andrea did say it.

Tangible stake, my arse.
She is also disgusted and seems to be fuming. She could be on MN, are we all accounted for?

if she is, then where is your tax return Andrea?

Inkanta · 09/07/2016 07:41

'think inkanta has to be a plant- wouldn't put it past Andrea 'as a mother ' loathsome
To try to infiltrate mn'

O eye!

I don't like that kind journalism. Badly done. Good stitch up though.
