Teresa May or Andrea Leadsom?

So without starting anything too politically fraught I wonder if people would share with me who they prefer for conservative leadership out of the two.

The race is now down to them and so we will have a female PM again!

Opinions?

I have been told by one poster already that war had been declared already.

They said it was the middle classes that had declared it.

TheElementsSong · 08/07/2016 18:19

Lurking has put his finger on it perfectly. And Red Shock.

StrictlyMumDancing · 08/07/2016 18:27

I'm still not sure if I'm middle class or not given the descriptions in varying threads and places. How do I know which side of this war I'm on or if I declared it? Confused

RedToothBrush · 08/07/2016 18:32

Are you a 'threat' or the 'enemy'? I guess that's the definition.

RockandRollsuicide · 08/07/2016 18:36

So the state has been repressing the truth about the EU & its ills then a la Goebbels?
So that we wouldn't find out the truth about their political, economic & military end goals.

^ we will never know the extent of what has been repressed Mango. One only has to look at the shoddy shambles this country has had to endure for the higher goals of the EU ideals. Goodness knows what has been going on over there. Its been a case of out of sight, out of mind for many posters.

RockandRollsuicide · 08/07/2016 18:40

As a remainer she was aware that not all the ills of the UK are the EUs fault and doesn't just want to see the world burn. But as a euro-sceptic she isn't immune to the EUs problems either
You do realise the only reason Leadsom turned from very PRO EU saying it would be a disaster for us to leave the EU because she worked on a team looking at EU reform and realized it was never ever going to reform and it was failing.

I find it very casual how some posters ignore Leadsoms pro EU stance, and dismiss very easily why she turned.

StrictlyMumDancing · 08/07/2016 18:43

red I suppose it depends on who is defining that too. I'm educated and liberal so I guess I'm a threat? Tbh though I really feel like I've been made the enemy through forces outside of my own control.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/07/2016 18:44

Er, like all of them, Loathsome chose the option she thought best for her political career.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 08/07/2016 18:52

Any sightings of Andrea Leadsom's Tax return?

TheElementsSong · 08/07/2016 19:11

I'm definitely the enemy. I'm a city dweller, a foreign-born ethnic minority, socially liberal, atheist, educated and (according to posters here) I "worship experts" by recognising the limitations in my knowledge and ability.

So much for all that "let's work together" nonsense.

Freefalling123 · 08/07/2016 19:12

Leadsom. She's anti HS2 which would hopefully mean that gets binned, if nothing else.

StrictlyMumDancing · 08/07/2016 19:18

Ah ok, I'm with elements. So did we declare the war? Did we do that they day we insisted on listening to experts when it was publicly decreed that we'd had enough of them?

A4Document · 08/07/2016 19:25

Theresa May

Pros: Long-term government experience, strong, good negotiator, said "Brexit is Brexit" and wears interesting shoes Grin
Cons: Supported "Remain", voted against repealing Section 28, said no to civil partnerships

Andrea Leadsom

Pros: Supported "Leave", less "establishment" so perhaps less controllable and more independent?
Cons: Less experienced, questionmarks over CV, supports fox hunting, against gay marriage.

BoboChic · 08/07/2016 19:29

Neither fill my heart with joy but Theresa May is massively more experienced a politician and a recognized tough negotiator and that's what we need.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/07/2016 19:30

Those who won't listen to experts: when you or your family have appendicitis / broken bones / cancer etc do you visit a faith healer or your local homeopathic practitioner ?

nuttymango · 08/07/2016 19:31

I can't help but think that the country is fucked whatever happens. Labour are as much use as a chocolate teapot, the Tories are starting to look like a big a disaster as Trump but at least the US has a semi-plausible alternative in Clinton - though I do think it's pretty telling that she is only looking that way because she's up against Trump.

We're stuck with it because we can't emigrate anywhere. Nobody would want us.

CrowyMcCrowFace · 08/07/2016 19:54

Leadsom.

In the admittedly forlorn hope that she makes the entire swivel eyed clusterfuck that is the current Tory party, unelectable.

I'd rather vote for a coalition of a tarantula & John McCririck's cock...both easier to swallow I reckon Wink.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/07/2016 20:01

NuttyMango I've just moved permanently to Germany, nearly as easy as moving within the Uk Smile I joined the brain drain.
You just need an EU passport and you can move to any EU country with your dependents, no questions asked. No need to have a job or income in advance, BUT you won't be entitled to welfare help for quite a while.
Just settle somewhere, you'll be a permanent resident by the time Brexit would actually affect emigrants.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/07/2016 20:27

I hope the 150,000 Tory members (less than 0.003% of the electorate) consider carefully when they choose the next PM for the other 60 million + Brits.
It's about far more than EAA "soft touch" Brexit vs pure hardcore WTO Brexit.

The PM and UK government have far more effect on what happens in the UK than the EU ever has.
Made in Britain: Iraq / David Kelly / rendition & torture , Hillsborough, Bloody Sunday, Birmingham 6 / Guildford 4 & torture ....
Then there is the godawful British class system, lack of social mobility, the worst inequality in the EU ...

Why fantasise about sinister EU plots in Lizard Central when the UK ruling class has achieved all this.

A4Document · 08/07/2016 20:54

Then there is the godawful British class system, lack of social mobility, the worst inequality in the EU ...

It's those very same leaders and their contacts who have caused these problems and claim the EU is a good thing.

Surely we should be working to change the above problems, rather than wasting time trying to reform a distant, unreformable EU.

No, the Tories aren't ideal but at least there's an opposition and the chance to vote in another party next time.

A4Document · 08/07/2016 20:57

BigChocFrenzy experts are fine, but if you're only presented unfailingly with those from one side, of course it's right to be cynical. It's far too mechanical and unrealistic to be a genuine cross-section of expert opinion.

StrictlyMumDancing · 08/07/2016 20:58

weve been trying to reform these for centuries

TheElementsSong · 08/07/2016 21:14

Not all issues have two sides Wink.

Aerfen · 08/07/2016 21:15

DoinItFine
Brexit encouraged an eruption of nasty nativism
Here's a great article from the Spectator about how different things seem post-Brexit and how Andrea Leadsom is part of that.

And Bremain has encouraged an eruption of a very nasty ageism, with its suggestions that the votes of the middle aged and elderly should somehow 'counct less' than those of the young , because they will not live as many years with the consequences of their decison !!! Eek!

And this is reinforced by Alex Massie, the writer of the article you admire, in the shamelessly stereotyping opening paragraph:

"...there is something preposterous about the sight of so many prominent Leavers clutching their pearls in horror as they contemplate the possibility – the real possibility – that Andrea Leadsom could become the next leader of the Conservative party and, by golly, Prime Minister too."

Prejudices are fine so long as they are your prejudices, hey Mr Massie!

nuttymango · 08/07/2016 21:15

BigChoc and there is the problem, I wouldn't have cash to support us in the meantime and I'd need to speak German to do my job in Germany.
