The Westministenders Hunger Games continues. Boris still trying not to be outmanoevered.

Clearly Boris didn't get the memo, on when to quit the power games, even after Gove schooled him in the dark arts of the Tory Leadership....

So the Tory Smackdown rolls on whilst Corbyn STILL clings on. UKIP has now entered the race to make a challenge for who can make the biggest leadership contest shambles.

In The Blue Corner
May strikes fear into the hearts of EU citizens as she counts her bargaining chips.
Gove strikes fear into the hearts of humans, with his Martian twitch.
Loathsom strikes fear in the hearts of Britains by talking about babies brains.
Crabb strikes fear into the hearts of Torys by suggesting a plan that Corbyn might like. (and that beard doesn't help).
And Fox.
Well he just turned up.

Johnson is still waiting in the wings to stab Gove. He'd quite fancy a seat at the cabinet table too.
Osborne has gone quite again and we wait with baited breathe to see if he is the 'Charlie off Casualty' of the Tory Party (y'know whatever happens he somehow survives like a cockroach).

In The Red Corner
Corbyn apologies. So we know he's getting a bit desperate.
Will the Unions figure out something else to do other than sit with their head in hands.
Angela Eagle is still doing jellyfish impressions and hasn't found that backbone.
We STILL don't know who the fuck Owen Smith is?
Will Bliar's chicken's finally come home to roost?
The Cult of Momentum, rumbles on. We aren't quite sure who they actually vote for, but they seem to like their Dear Leader.
When will this country next have an opposition party?

Its kinda getting boring guys, we need some action now. End the Chicken Coup! The Tories are definitely out doing in the high drama stakes.

In the Purple Corner
Farage has gone! Hurrah. We hope only that he stays under that rock.
(Don't count on it. They'll wheel him out when they need publicity)
Will Leadsom be elected leader? Oh sorry, wrong party. I was getting confused for a second there.
Will they throw the cuckoo Carswell out? [:)]
Will they be able to find a less offensive leader than Farage who can unite them in their common goal of errrr..... yeah. That.
How long before one of their candidates has to apologise for something?

And I suppose I should ask, when will a50 be triggered....? And by whom?

All these questions and more.
Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Oooooooh. Is this how Italy ended up with a change of government every 2 minutes - did the high drama just get a bit addictive?

Yup, my tuppence (€1.50) is on Liam Fox for first out.

RedToothBrush · 05/07/2016 17:43

Night, you might want to change that post. The new exchange rate means that your €1.50 worth is now a fiver.

Latest Tory leadership totals as voting deadline draws near
Posted at
17:40
With the result of the first round of voting fast approaching, the BBC has produced its final tally of declared backers for the five candidates. Remember - the one with the fewest votes has to drop out but there are still many Tory MPs who have not publicly shown their hand, so there is plenty to play for.

Voting closes at 1800 BST, with the result expected at 1830 BST.

Theresa May - 141

Andrea Leadsom - 43

Michael Gove - 27

Stephen Crabb - 24

Liam Fox - 9

Nightofthetentacle · 05/07/2016 17:48

OH I AM SO ASHAMED ( and have just been correcting people on financy stuff elsewhere).

Please read as: €0.000015

No wait, €0.0000013, no wait a minute....

GingerIvy · 05/07/2016 17:50

So these are people publicly backing these candidates. They don't necessarily have to vote for them do they? So the results could be different, right?

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/07/2016 17:52

Apparently Leadsom called for small businesses to be exempt from trifling regulations like unfair dismissal, minimum wage and maternity leave/pay.

Just as a side note. I see this on the MN page.

Did NM REALLY think this would go over well? Hmm

TheBathroomSink · 05/07/2016 17:53

The results could well be different, maybe Tory MPs have decided to get their own back on the pollsters who've not really managed to predict anything with any accuracy.

Maybe at 18.31 we'll find Liam Fox has 200+ votes, and everyone is shouting 'Punk'd'

Because it's all been a bit normal and serene this week, so something batshit must surely be about to happen!!

Showmethewaytogohome · 05/07/2016 17:53

Do you think lovely Ken will stand in his Hush puppies (I am obsessed) as leader of the Labour Party....at least he says what he thinks...and stands by it

DoinItFine · 05/07/2016 17:57

Sadly not actual culling though.

Grin

Actual culling would be great.

RedToothBrush · 05/07/2016 17:57

Sebastian Payne at the Financial Times says her election as leader could result in Ukip entryism.:

The other danger of a Leadsom leadership is UK Independence party entryism. Arron Banks, the millionaire donor who funded both Ukip and Leave. EU, is backing Ms Leadsom’s campaign. At the hustings, she would not rule out a partnership with Ukip and during a television interview, declined to say she would not give Nigel Farage a job.

Mr Banks has spoken about his desire to create a “rightwing Momentum”, a Brexit pressure group modelled on Mr Corbyn’s grass roots support base. A Tory party led by Ms Leadsom would provide the perfect opportunity for hard-right Brexit supporters to infiltrate the Conservatives (this cannot happen in time for the current leadership contest, however: the rules dictate you have to be a Tory member for three months to be eligible to vote).

Soooo, assuming Liam Fox goes tonight, who will his votes go to?

GingerIvy · 05/07/2016 18:00

Would the 10 or so really make a huge difference?

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said he's disappointed with the decision by junior doctors to reject a new contract offer. Downing Street says it's considering all options including, "introducing the contract".

RedToothBrush · 05/07/2016 18:05

I think Fox isn't the point. Its whether 3rd and 4th place think they have enough votes to continue and decide to quite too.

I suspect at least 2 will go tonight.

I think we get the results between 6.30 and 7pm. I've heard a suggestion that Gove might withdraw if he doesn't do well enough.

RedToothBrush · 05/07/2016 18:10

Results due around 6.30pm. It is being broadcast by someone but I'm not sure who.

Rufus I have seen that on social media and thought it jolly.

That FT piece on Leadsom is especially worrisome though.

GingerIvy · 05/07/2016 18:11

I would have thought he'd hang in, hoping to edge out AL with the votes from those that are culled. He doesn't need first, he just needs second.

EmilyDickinson · 05/07/2016 18:19

I'm checking the Guardian live feed. It says that the Sky News tally at 6.01pm suggests 108 MPs undeclared so the result could potentially be quite different from what we expect.

Cameron chose not to vote.
