Anyone agree?

ManonLescaut · 05/07/2016 21:46

I'll have a Kia Imperiale and no sympathy for Andrea's 66 meagre votes.

ManonLescaut · 05/07/2016 21:49

No idea why Imperial has an e on it, I'll also have a Rusty Nail for Andrea.

roundaboutthetown · 05/07/2016 22:35

Yes, I am bored with it, but still don't understand what you disagreed with. Grin It is a fact that tax avoidance is the term used to describe legal tax avoidance and tax evasion the accepted term to describe illegal tax avoidance. It is also a fact that the public in general have no interest whatsoever in the distinction as that doesn't particularly factor into whether or not they disapprove of it. Grin

Can we speak about Theresa May for a moment? (or is it Teresa - I guess I'll have to learn to spell it if she wins)
There's something about her that I really dislike. I don't usually have that reaction to people, but I see her and I think cold, steely, selfish, ruthless, psychopath! I(Unjustified, I know, but I recoil every time I see her.)

What are her good points? What will she do to lead the country out of trouble, if she gets elected? Basically, i know my reaction is unfair, so what does everyone else see?

roundaboutthetown · 05/07/2016 22:43

I see the other candidates as being even worse. I think there's no hope for us - they're all awful!

ManonLescaut · 05/07/2016 22:46

For God's sake just have a drink town Grin

It's Theresa with an H.

I've always really disliked her. I don't think she's a psychopath I just think she's a bit thick. Not as thick as Andrea though tbf.

ManonLescaut · 05/07/2016 22:47

Yeah when Theresa with an H is your best hope you know you're in the shit.

roundaboutthetown · 05/07/2016 22:48

Your round, Manon - what'll you buy for me? Grin

SwedishEdith · 05/07/2016 22:49

Posted this before about Theresa May

SnowBells · 05/07/2016 23:05

None of the Tory candidates appeal!!!

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/07/2016 23:11

That article about Theresa May makes me like her far more.

GraceGrape · 05/07/2016 23:29

Not sure if this has been posted, but Frankie Boyle has an amusing overview of the candidates.....

JudyCoolibar · 05/07/2016 23:34

Boris only backed her because he reckons she'll fuck up so badly that she'll be booted within a couple of years and he can come riding up on his white charger to take over.

WidowWadman · 05/07/2016 23:45

Looks like Leadsom has her pants on fire

Sixweekstowait · 06/07/2016 00:03

I would guess that's the end of her then?

ManonLescaut · 06/07/2016 00:13

'One would have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at the death of Little Nell.'

JudyCoolibar · 06/07/2016 07:54

So Boris has chosen the wrong horse to back yet again ...

Girlgonewild · 06/07/2016 08:34

May is marvellous. We will be very lucky to have her.
The Labour party have yet to produce a female leader. They seem to be full of unreconstructed working class male sexists.

Millyonthefloss2 · 06/07/2016 08:52

Agree with you about Labour being sexist. This referendum process has shown the Tory party in a good light I think. I was never a fan of DC and GO and am totally off them now. But I am actually quite excited about a new cabinet. If May is PM that will be fine by me and even better if she could have Javid as chancellor. Great article by him in the Telegraph today.

Whether she lied (about being CIO), or someone else got it wrong and she let the lie persist, it shows incredibly bad judgement. The other staff and the clients (pension funds etc) would have all known it to be a lie, and it was bound to come out sooner or later.
The four (or three) top jobs in Investment Mgmt are: Chairman, CEO (sometimes these combine), then CIO and head of marketing.
What AL had was a very senior role, probably the next level down. there's no shame in what she did. You don't get to that level (and stay there) without being very good, so why not just say what she really did right from the start and know that its highly respectable, rather than get caught exaggerating?

nauticant · 06/07/2016 09:28

You might ask why £200M a week to Europe wasn't as good as £350M. Some people have something in their make up that means they just feel the need to lie.

Millyonthefloss2 · 06/07/2016 09:34

I don't think Leadsom exaggerated particularly heinously. It is still an impressive career to have had alongside 3 children. As I've said before, I particularly admire her for her honest criticism of Osborne over the Libor/Ed Balls affair. It was Bernard Jenkin and others who bigged her up with the billions of pounds thing. But the Murdoch papers have the knives out for her now so we will see lots of smear stories there and in social media.

I think the Tory membership like Leadsom nevertheless, but I am pretty sure they will want unity now and go for May - as long as she does absolutely promise to Brexit - which she has now. My biggest fear is that Gove could still get in and keep Osborne but I would be very happy with May and a new Chancellor.

Amendment: to be fair to her, the MP profile page on the government website has never said she was CIO at Invesco. I just checked it back 2 years on waybackmachine.

Her wikipedia page has the right job title for Invesco too from 2012 until May 2016. Then it had the more grandiose one until last Monday. So, someone changed it in May this year during the EU referendum campaign a few weeks before the public noticed her for the first time on that infamous debate when Amber Rudd said that thing about Boris Johnson

The plot thickens!

roundaboutthetown · 06/07/2016 09:41

Leadsom exaggerated heinously throughout the entire referendum campaign. She failed to take the opportunity to raise the level of debate from dumb sound bites to intelligent analysis. Also, if she said she held a position she did not hold, that is a lie, not an exaggeration. Either she was or was not a Chief Investment Officer.

Vri123 · 06/07/2016 09:48

She wasn't CIO. But did she ever say she was? Who changed that entry on her Wikipedia page? Did anyone tell her that a bare faced lie was being told about her level of achievement in the City and did she nod along, or immediately take action to correct the falsehood?
