Is it AIBU to think that Nigel Farage has brought England into disrepute?

Following Nigel Farage's extremely insulting, gratuitous abuse of the EU today, should he be be brought to account for the serious damage he has undoubtedly done by bringing England - for whom he apparently speaks -into disrepute at the worst, most delicate time.

I was shocked, what a way to behave if you want to negotiate any sort of favourable deal (unless he's playing some sort of good cop/bad cop game, which I doubt). Unbelievable. He does not in any way represent me.

STIDW · 28/06/2016 18:53

No, it isn't unreasonable. It's not the first time his insulting behaviour in the EU Parl has been an embarrassment.

ImperialBlether · 28/06/2016 18:54

Seventeen years he's been working as an MEP and all of that time he's been trying to drag us out. How much had he earned in that time? I think that's the immoral thing, that he's posed as an MEP while not believing in the institution.

And yes, every time his stupid face is on TV he's letting everyone know what a fool he is. It was clear from the news what the other candidates thought of him over there.

fakenamefornow · 28/06/2016 18:54

I agree, he seems to be delighting in the chaos and dancing around the fire. He is an evil man imo.

I meet the business people all day, I met somebody today who would be laying people off because of this, as a major contract had been cancelled. He said Farage and Johnson should be charged with fucking treason for this.

fakenamefornow · 28/06/2016 18:57

And yes, every time his stupid face is on TV he's letting everyone know what a fool he is

Actually I think the opposite, he's letting everyone know what fools the British public are. Farage is loving this.

NataliaOsipova · 28/06/2016 18:57

No. We are a laughing stock at best; at worst, people really hate us. One of the MEPs actually referred to the campaign's "Nazi propaganda". We have validated the views of the small minded racists and we have done it with open eyes.

Huldra · 28/06/2016 19:02

It was appalling.

dragonsarebest · 28/06/2016 19:05

Oh and I'm sure this has been discussed at length elsewhere, but didn't he seem to be incredibly chippy. What was the club that wouldn't let him join and spoiled him forever?

honeysucklejasmine · 28/06/2016 19:06

I can't believe UKIP have achieved their aims without even needing to win an election.

He is an absolute twat who has just spat all over the very parliament which will need to approve any deals.

situatedknowledge · 28/06/2016 19:13

Yanbu vile performance from a vile man.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 28/06/2016 19:16

The media gave Farage a platform - they should be ashamed.

Everyday the situation gets worse. Farage insults the EU but then asks if we can have a free trade deal. Pretty, please.

I am really worried as to where this is all heading.

I was highly embarrassed by his speech at the EU and it in no way represented me at all. I've never been a fan of his but even so, what he did today was just outright gloating. Horrible.

SwedishEdith · 28/06/2016 19:44

UKIP had someone on pretty much ever Question Time panel in the months before the Referendum. Why when the have 1 MP? Totally irresponsible but possibly brought on by the BBC trying to assuage accusations of left-wing bias. Sold never have been given such a prominent voice.

ImperialBlether · 28/06/2016 20:28

Exactly, SwedishEdith - and did you see anything of the Green Party? Not one interview with them, compared with the airtime UKIP got.

Fairylea · 28/06/2016 20:34

I thought it was dreadful but judging by my Facebook news feed and my local community page (6000+ members) who have shared the speech there are plenty of people who are applauding him. I think mumsnet is a bit of a political bubble, Nigel F has a huge following where I live (South Norfolk).

Globetrotter100 · 28/06/2016 20:42

He's a vile fascist. He's never represented this country; he's now not even pretend to do anything other that destroy it. I cannot believe that anyone could support this man's views. Makes me genuinely nauseous. He's truly brought shame on our nation. Very very sad.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 28/06/2016 20:45

I have come off Facebook since The referendum because of the number of local (and family members) that support the awful man.

Tomtomato · 28/06/2016 20:47

I agree disgusting man, I hate him and all he stands for. I've never been more ashamed of my country than I am right now; we're the laughing stock of the world.

SwedishEdith · 28/06/2016 20:47

That's so depressing Fairylea

Caroline Lucas is great but Jenny Jones was a Leave wasn't she? Were the Greens split? Perfectly fair to hear both sides of course.

IPityThePontipines · 28/06/2016 20:49

I can't believe UKIP have achieved their aims without even needing to win an election.

Farage has tried and failed to become an MP 7 times, yet he gets more airtime then any actual MP.

I cannot bear that so many people have swallowed his bile.

Now I understand how Americans feel about Trump.

mixety · 28/06/2016 20:49

I can believe that in one breath he was all 'look who's laughing now' 'none of you have done a real day's work in your life' and then went on to say 'I hope we can be grown up about these negotiations'. HELLO? What an idiot.

originalmavis · 28/06/2016 20:51

Sorry but get it right - he's dragged all of the united kingdom into his shit, not just England. We all get lumped together when it's baaaaaaad (or very good like tennis).

Oh god, so embarrassing. I used to take the piss out of my American relatives for their batshit politicians and now we have our very own.

He might as well as just pulled down his pants and crapped on his desk.

flippinada · 28/06/2016 20:53

I was cringing with shame watching his performance today.

I agree that there's something really quite evil about him. He makes my flesh crawl and I cannot understand why people don't see through his blatantly transparent man of the people facade to the odious little fascist underneath.

NameChanger22 · 28/06/2016 20:54

He is deluded and evil. He must hate the UK.
