Is it AIBU to think that Nigel Farage has brought England into disrepute?

Following Nigel Farage's extremely insulting, gratuitous abuse of the EU today, should he be be brought to account for the serious damage he has undoubtedly done by bringing England - for whom he apparently speaks -into disrepute at the worst, most delicate time.

OP posts:

It is very depressing.

The trouble is people think he's standing up to them, showing them who's boss etc etc (comments I've read recently). On Instagram today a lot of people who claim to dislike him have been sharing his speech because they found it amusing and saying at least he has balls ... Shock I think at this rate we might end up with Nigel F for pm at some point. The world has gone mad.

originalmavis · 28/06/2016 20:56

I wonder how his wife puts up with him. Do you thing he does a funny basil fawlty impression at the breakfast table and says 'don't mention the war' a lot? He seems like the type that would do that.

BertrandRussell · 28/06/2016 20:58

The speech he made on the morning of the referendum was the single most embarrassing thing I have ever heard.

That1950sMum · 28/06/2016 21:00

He brought himself into disrepute.

I'm sure the other members of the EU know he only speaks for a minority in the UK and most of us are quite aware that he is a borish fool.

Fairylea · 28/06/2016 21:01

Can I just say as well that I think one of the most dangerous things we can do at the moment is underestimate the power of ukip and Nigel F.

People keep saying he will never be pm and ukip will never take power etc - we cannot assume that they won't. They do say to "assume is to make an ass out of u and me". You can't stop evil unless you acknowledge its power in the first place.

Patterkiller · 28/06/2016 21:03

I only wish the news wouldn't give him air time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/06/2016 21:04

agreed Fairylea. And yanbu op.

Why oh why did the media give him so much coverage.

Topseyt · 28/06/2016 21:04

Bringing the UK into disrepute is about the only thing that Toadface (Farage) does well. Does he really think that you can encourage trade negotiations with an organisation by going and shitting all over its members?

I liked the rebuke from the former Belgian Prime Minister (now and MEP). He observed that at least one large waste of EU money would now be saved - Farage's salary.

Juncker asked Farage why he was there in light of the Leave vote.

The Speaker in the chamber had to take control of proceedings at one point during Farage's speech and told the MEPs to calm down because they were in danger descending to behave like UKIP normally do.

BlunderWomansCat · 28/06/2016 21:06

He's a major embarrassment and a giant twat.

originalmavis · 28/06/2016 21:06

He's like the Jeremy Clarkson of politics.

He can spout all sorrts of outrageous comments and people just say 'oh isn't he terrible, hee hee hee'. Where's there a production assistant when you need one?

I bet poor old dulwich college is having to brillo pad it's reputation with him as an old boy.

flippinada · 28/06/2016 21:07

I agree Fairylea. People thought Hitler was a funny little man.

colouringinagain · 28/06/2016 21:07

I was ashamed to be British.

NationMcKinley · 28/06/2016 21:11

Awful. Just awful. I actually screen shot this from sky news to show my DM. Just look at the faces of the people around him. Where the actual fuck is this going to end? I'm no dramallama but I'm terrified.

Is it AIBU to think that Nigel Farage has brought England into disrepute?
BlunderWomansCat · 28/06/2016 21:13

On another thread the Op thinks he's fantastic and a Statesman Hmm

MayhemandMadness · 28/06/2016 21:15

Can't we just chuck him in London Tower and accidently forget about him? AIBU?

gonegrey56 · 28/06/2016 21:19

Matt Frei of Channel 4 news really took him to task after that disgraceful performance this afternoon. Farage clearly wants to make things as difficult as possible for those who will have to try to salvage something from all this turmoil .

Globetrotter100 · 28/06/2016 21:20

BlunderWoman you mean this horror story?:

Sad
flippinada · 28/06/2016 21:22

I wonder if this is him having a temper tantrum because the leave lot won't let him have anything to do with negotiations?

Surferjet · 28/06/2016 21:25

It's possible, with the two main parties in total chaos, that UKIP will rise even higher & Nigel Farage gains even more power.
He is, to many who voted leave, the Messiah, & the only one they trust to deliver what they want.

annandale · 28/06/2016 21:27

He is where he is because he was elected to the European Parliament on a turnout of 25% in 1999, and has been reelected ever since, on turnouts that never reached 40%.

Never, ever, ever think it doesn't matter if you don't vote.

SwedishEdith · 28/06/2016 21:27

Totally agree Fairy - this is how it starts. Paul Nuttall was mouthing off on Question Time (again!) saying "They're all saying the North is full of crappy towns" etc. Real inflammatory divide and conquer stuff. And all these 'London To Go It Alone' petitions completely play into the same narrative. It's not funny, he's not sticking it to the Establishment - he's dangerous.

Never have we (the UK and Europe) needed to be more united - ironically. Can't believe I'm writing this.Sad and Angry

flippinada · 28/06/2016 21:36

I know Swedish. I echo your feelings.

Destinysdaughter · 28/06/2016 21:41

He's not the hail fellow well met many have thought he was. In fact he's been a nasty little shit ever since he was a schoolboy...

Figmentofmyimagination · 28/06/2016 21:45

Next time, write to the BBC and complain - about nuttall, about balance, about hate language etc etc. We need to all become a lot more active in stamping out these messages. I think it really came home to me on the Friday after the referendum, when the today programme uncritically interviewed Farage, who was crowing and calling for a national Independence Day.

I wrote to the editor today programme today to complain about some nasty bile read out this morning from the sun newspaper. It was the first time I have complained. The number of times I've just sighed and put up with it ... We must start regularly speaking up to take back our national discourse, before it's too late.

MyLifeisaboxofwormgears · 28/06/2016 21:46

I think that Nigel Farrage would not steal a red hot stove.
