Did anybody see this on the BBC news when a woman who looked to be about 80 uttered this phrase when asked why she had voted Leave.

Was I the only one to have seen the irony in the fact that as she said this she was having her nails done by an immigrant in a nail bar?

Stupidty will continue to amaze me everyday.

Have a similar experience on Friday. This woman who was clearly disabled so will be losing out big time, moaning about immigrants whilst waiting to see the immigrant consultant.

The obv point is that if it wasn't for so many immigrants it could have been a British-born person doing her nails, and having the consultant's job too.

Yes. It's sooo true. I think no one should be able to go to another country and work there. Bloody foreigners Brits going to hot countries to work, retire, etc.

Really, Pan? i don't think so. These nail bars are run by people who saw a gap in the market and jumped in there. How are they stopping non-immigrants from doing the same? Surely it's easier for a non immigrant to start up something like that? These bars are convenient and we benefit from them.

There a shortage of skills in some jobs amongst British workers (see NHS) hence the need for foreign staff.

And also pan, we have a shortage of doctors in this country. So your point doesn't stand there either.

Do they indeed? My mum works for a company which employs brits and Europeans - benefits and salary are exactly the same. All jobs advertised at the job centre so it's a level playing field.

Globalisation and free market principles under cut wages. That is going nowhere. Migrant workers are a symptom not the cause.

She is an immigrant. She got a bit flustered when someone pointed this out and muttered something about being 'the right sort of immigrant' with qualifications and money....

Then why did wages rise between 2004 and 2008 when immigration from the EU8 was high?

What factor do you think may have caused low wage growth in 2010 and 11 when we had far lower levels of immigration from the EU.

Companies will treat people worse when they are allowed to rip up the EU regulations.

Peoples stupidity amuses me no end. Someone on my FB was celebrating the result on Friday & yesterday was moaning about euro rate as going to Spain next week & didn't think to buy euros before Friday's result 🙄

Comments on the Daily Mail article about the consequences would have been hilarious if the sheer stupidity hadn't been so depressing. There were so many people moaning because it hadn't occurred to them that their holidays would be more expensive, they'd have to wait at the end of the long non-EU passport queue with all those dreadful forrins, EU imports would be more expensive, £350 million a year would not be going into the NHS, and there would still be free movement for EU citizens.

No change in benefits either - meal allowance at work, staff discount, free parking, free uniform, pension scheme - everying is as generous or more generous than it was 10 years ago. My mum has worked there for 29 years and works in HR so well aware of benefits and salary.

I am sure the company my mum works for is not an exception.
