Seriously? majority of people who voted for leave wanted control of our borders, we brought into your story of an Australian style point system now it seems there's still going be freedom of labour movement which is basically the same thing expect they get less legal rights.

I didn't just vote leave for immigration but yes it was a big reason and if I known this, if remain had a better hammered this home I bet MANY leave voters would not have voted the way they did. If anything if this happens, many leave voters will join the remain voters in rage at the lies we been fed. (NHS, Immigration)

I have been a vocal leave supporter on here but now I am feeling pretty scared about what I have voted for. I blame the remain campaign for having an totally shit and ineffective campaign and Cameron should never have been the leader of the remain camp, as majority of people despise him and don't take any notice of what he says.

From what I remember, all of this was highlighted at the time, but many people didn't want to hear. It was derided as project fear. When actually it was trying to explain to people the complex financial realities of disentangling a complex and longterm relationship.

The problem with the leave campaign is that there was no plan - no realism, just an emotional appeal to nationalism - the idea that Britain could be great again.

It may work, longterm, but not without a lot of changes and short term costs.

Cland exactly. On Thursday Boris was making out that leaving was the most important thing in the world and on Friday he half arsed it. I think he's shitting his pants.

gunting · 26/06/2016 13:00

Throck the project fear thing is very irritating. A lot of leavers don't seem to realise that it was actually project reality

Badders123 · 26/06/2016 13:00

Leave voters called the remain campaign "project fear" and "scaremongering"
Does it feel like scaremongering now?
Knuckle dragging twats.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/06/2016 13:02

Interesting comment by a prolific Guardian poster who is a Brexiter:

"Most people would find it hard to understand complex arguments about sovereignty, regulations, accountability, etc. so immigration became the way to get them on board^ and it worked^
We are out now"

Looks like the Brexit leaders also find these issues hard to understand. They are concentrating 100% on their election campaign for the Tory leadership. Much simpler.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/06/2016 13:05

Nicola Sturgeon is investigating whether Holyrood could block Brexit :

"^The issue you are talking about is would there have to be a legislative consent motion or motions for the legislation that extricates the UK from the European Union?
Looking at it from a logical perspective, I find it hard to believe that there wouldn't be that requirement - I suspect that the UK government will take a very different view on that and we'll have to see where that discussion ends up."^

Clandestino · 26/06/2016 13:06

Btw, I just read few tweets - experiences of people who encountered Brexit legitimised racism of the Leavers. Please don't tell me you feel insulted being called racists if your friends are asking Polish waitresses in a restaurant why they are smiling when they are going to have to leave soon? Polish children crying at school because they are afraid they will be deported (wonder where they got it from, some good soul on the street), Muslim children being told to fuck off and black people the same because Britain is for the British. And yeah, Britain First is apparently the future now.
It's time for the EU to cut off this cancer and stop it from spreading any further.

gunting · 26/06/2016 13:13

Cland someone on Facebook has created an album called 'worrying signs' and it has 115 incidences of brexit racism that have come to light since Friday. It's a right wing revolution.

gunting · 26/06/2016 13:15

Here is a link to all of the brexit abuse. brexiters should stop playing down remainers worries and own what this has become.

Clandestino · 26/06/2016 13:18

gunting but surely we have no idea and are just scaremongering and insulting the decent people who just want their Polish neighbour to fuck off to his own country

StrictlyMumDancing · 26/06/2016 13:19

The Eu needs to cut off this cancer??? Wtf???

Gove and Johnson got into bed with Farage. What the hell else did you expect to happen? This is not the EUs fault. The brexit campaigners need to come out and call for this to stop. They're all being a little quiet though aren't they?

I am one of those who got told I was the problem with Britain in the street too.

StrictlyMumDancing · 26/06/2016 13:21

Sorry cland I suspect in my ire I missed your sarcasm

Clandestino · 26/06/2016 13:22

Strictly I mean it's time for the EU to figure out how to speed up the Brexit and not letting Britain to drag their feet for months to come.

justalittlelemondrizzle · 26/06/2016 13:23

Brexiters heard what they wanted to. The remainers knew this all along. Why didnt you? This was common knowledge!
So tell me. What have we gained through uneducated people trying to make a point. I would laugh if it wasn't so utterly depressing!

Clandestino · 26/06/2016 13:25

Brexit was built on xenophobia and false promises. All those months of indecision will only make the situation worse.

StrictlyMumDancing · 26/06/2016 13:25

The eu cannot speed this up. They are calling for us to, which is the most they can do. But again that's just seen as the EU trying to overrule us.

Valentine2 · 26/06/2016 13:27

bengalcat
I slept ok last night so hopefully I wil now be able to understand if you throw some facts and figures at me? Your claims start from a "fact" that you stare without reference : UK grows 60% of our food requirements. Can you pls show where these figures came from and what did EU have to do with it?
Then my second question would be to ask you to provide evidence for the population density calculation you have and the claim that EU will explode at some point.

In the mean time, I post this for the benefit of OP and otherLeavers.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jun/11/barking-vote-leave-eu-labour-queen-birthday-parties

This guy actually believes immigration is sinking UK, as in, literally!

And IDS has backtracked the £350mlion to NHS claim just a few hours ago. Turkeys indeed voted for Christmas.

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 26/06/2016 13:38

If someone believes a slogan on the bus, you should probably give up any voting forever because you're mentally incapable of making important decisions.

As a reason for giving campaigners the right to make any claim or 'pledge' they like without reference to the truth, that is pathetic. Truth and democracy cannot be divorced from each other.

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 26/06/2016 13:40

There's an enormous group on facebook of Brexiters called 'Fuck Political Correctness'. Code for 'bigotry is now legitimate'. Any Brexiter saying there wasn't a strong element of racism in the Leave vote is either deluded or lying.

RiceCrispieTreats · 26/06/2016 13:49

Apparently in law there's good reason to say that we can't leave unless the Scottish Parliament agrees. That could be interesting.

I believe that's because respect of EU law is part of the Devolution agreement.
So it could be argued that removing the UK from the EU is a breach of the Devolution agreement.

Sounds tenuous, but hey, a law is only as good as the lawyers who defend it!

TheUltimate · 26/06/2016 14:10

Oh Rebecca. Sadly, you're not alone - my MIL says she now regrets voting Leave as she believed the NHS would get the £350m per week. I mean..? Hmm Come the fuck on!

gunting · 26/06/2016 14:13

It won't end with free movement and the magical promises on the NHS www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-lave-campaign-broken-promises-mounting-live-updates-polls-7103076.html

StrictlyMumDancing · 26/06/2016 14:15

Sturgeon may well have just offered to play pantomime villain to Westminster in a long game to save UK politics. She calls this, and those lacking the political zeal to leave the EU have their perfect excuse not to. They can play this as not leaving the EU until they have a plan Scotland is happy with (they may never be happy), or a way Sturgeon can sell something like EEA to Scotland. Either way no Brexit without a definite plan. She won't care the English will hate her, and Westminster will secretly thank her and in return I'm sure she'll get something that will be seen as massively beneficial to the Scottish, more power or self control probably.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/06/2016 14:22

Respect where it's due:
Sturgeon is the only UK politician who seems to have the slightest idea what to do, atm.
Also, she is calming fears of the immigrant community in Scotland, being very supportive to them.

Westminster is clueless and is just leaving a political vacuum. Disgraceful & potentially dangerous
