First Brexit employment casualties

dd graduated this week, happy times.....phoned this morning to say that 2 of her friends, who had also graduated ( business/law degrees) and been offered jobs had been telephoned by their prospective employers to say that because of Brxit, they were now basing their headquarters in Berlin rather than UK and would no longer be employing them......I fear this is just the start....I am so angry and upset for our youth. My ds and dd2 are so angry and feel betrayed....I wish 16 &17 year olds had been given a vote as I feel they had a better handle on the repercussions of Brexit

I disagree. I think some of these guys identified as British or English above their desire for success which may have already been quenched. Culture and identity was a prime motivators for many people and I don't think it is impossible to imagine it was for them too.

That said it's easy enough to still disagree with their stance. You can simply call them rich little Englanders.

Cosmiccreepers203 · 03/07/2016 15:35

That's not what I'm calling them. I never implied that.
I'm saying that mid-sized employers have traditionally railed against what is seen as EU red tape. It will be interesting to see how the motivations of these businesses become apparent in the coming years.

Ah I see cosmic, apologies. Totally agree. I know one small business owner who makes Scrooge look generous. I think he's probably delighted with the news. Fortunately I think he will be retired before we leave.

Mistigri, Arron Banks has already indicated Farage is to be thrown overboard and perhaps a new party set up in place of Ukip.

GoudyStout · 03/07/2016 21:15

mathanxiety somehow that seems even more ominous. At least it's obvious to everyone with half a brain that Farage is an idiot.

Netto have been opening new stores in the uk in the last six months. Then suddenly. Kaboom?

They were still planning new stores as late as last week.

Cosmiccreepers203 · 04/07/2016 16:54

Ah, but don't you know that this has nothing to do with Brexit. Hmm

All those Brexit clauses that were activated by the referendum are just a figment of our imaginations.

WaitroseTrolley · 04/07/2016 17:15

Stop being so negative guys. And remember to buy British!

redhat · 04/07/2016 17:18

I have no issue with buying British Waitrose but coming onto a thread and saying stop being negative when we are in a time of great political and (potentially) social turmoil is just ridiculous. sticking your fingers in your ears and saying "La la la I'm not listening, lets all be happy" doesn't make the bad stuff disappear.

Farage to quit as Ukip leader

'Mr Carswell told the BBC's Daily Politics Mr Farage had "played a role" in the EU referendum, but said his departure represented a "huge opportunity" for the party. He described the chances of him running for leader as "somewhere between nil and zero" and said the winning candidate had to "steer UKIP away from the temptation of becoming an angry, nativist party." '

Angry nativists can now join the National Front I suppose.

Sorry redhat, I forget sarcasm doesn't always translate well in text Smile
