'Also, just want to say that clearly they know what the questions are and some of the, probably all of them, have prepared answers. '

I never realised that. That explains why Sturgeon sounds so rehearsed and politically correct.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/06/2016 21:15

I wouldn't have Sturgeon, can't bear her.

I like Angela Eagle.

MuddledMuse · 09/06/2016 21:16

Wow, that might be a bit of a game changer for me. I have been really angry about the Brexiteers having what I considered an incorrect figure on their bus. I was really really angry when Boris and at least one other stuck to this figure. Boris justified it by saying that it was a figure over which we had no control - I was still irritated. If the rebate is so unstable moving forward, why isn't more made about this?

claig · 09/06/2016 21:18

All the Reamin side have is to scare the audience of what Brexit will do if they win in removing rights, when the reality is that Brexit is a coalition from different parties and can never form a government to do anything because all the Establishment bigwigs are on the Remain side and they will still remain in power even if they lose the public vote.

Why doesn't Boris just tell the truth and say this is nothing to do with that. Andrea Ledsom said it and she was brilliant.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 09/06/2016 21:18

Angela Eagle is whiney and seems to be trying to get Boris to notice her. It's bizarre- like she's a school girl with a crush.

The rebate thing is a bit worrying.

Haven't really heard anything positive about the EU and why it's good. Even Cameron the other night said he didn't like the European Parliament. I think the "would you join now?" was a very good question to ask.

RosesareSublime · 09/06/2016 21:19

Very impressed by the two leave ladies, but Sturgeon! Ghastly!

claig · 09/06/2016 21:19

'If the rebate is so unstable moving forward, why isn't more made about this?'

Good question. Probably because Brexit have no real good debaters apart from farage who is practically banned from appearing by the Establishment.

captainproton · 09/06/2016 21:20

The remain side is woeful. Is this the best they could put together? I am undecided and was leaning remain, but now I'm not so sure.

claig · 09/06/2016 21:22

Sturgeon "work together", the usual crap that is supposed to silennce the blindingly obvious truth that we don't make our own rules and decisions and don't have control over our own money. Instead they want to fool us by politically correct platitudes of "values" and "working with each other" etc

What a low level political system we have, with automatons who read off pre-prepared scripts.

LineyReborn · 09/06/2016 21:22

Farage was on ITV with Cameron a couple of nights ago.

RosesareSublime · 09/06/2016 21:22

Andrea Leadson comes across really well

i must admit never heard of her before and I think she is shining out, she seems far more intelligent than all the others really.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/06/2016 21:22

Remain is weak tonight.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/06/2016 21:23

I agree re Andrea.

Amber Rudd, not so good.

LeaveTheRoundAbout · 09/06/2016 21:25

Why isn't more made of rebate being a changing entity?

I think it is - however I think the main issue is that there is SO much wrong about EU membership, that with the average person knowing not terribly much - that it is information overload and people just hear bits and pieces in the end.

The most worrying part is all the bad news re EU economies literally waiting to be announced in July.

jellyjiggles · 09/06/2016 21:26

It's not a good debate! Remain aren't strong enough. Sturgeon is carrying them. She's brilliant at debates and speaking but the other two are weak. Leave are more convincing, less erratic and emotional and appear more professional.

Boris looks frustrated, tired and generally like he doesn't want to be there.

It's not balanced with no men on the remain side. It's becoming a very feminist debate which is important but there are other issues!

The remain campaign need to lay off boris. He's not the only one on the leave side.

LineyReborn · 09/06/2016 21:28

I'm glad the rebate issue has finally been raised.

claig · 09/06/2016 21:28

"It is true that the UK rebate is not set in the EU treaties. It is a settlement, negotiated by Margaret Thatcher in 1984. The rebate reduced the UK contribution to the EU budget from more than 20% of the total in early 1980s to about 12% of the total now.

The level of the UK rebate is decided every seven years
...
It will remain in place in the current form until 2020.

When the EU starts to negotiate the next MFF, the rebate will certainly be on the table again. Many other EU countries would like to see it scrapped or reduced."

LeaveTheRoundAbout · 09/06/2016 21:28

It's very much type of screeching and interrupting that makes you embarrassed to be female. To be honest, the remain team have little in the way of manners - not female thing I suppose - just ghastly overbearing type of people.

MuddledMuse · 09/06/2016 21:29

But the potential end of the rebate IS a big issue. I am sure I'm not the only one who has been put off by what has appeared to have been a straight forward lie about what we pay to the EU. Yes, the money that is paid for universities, farming subsidies etc should be taken into account, but if Thatcher's rebate is about to disappear, or may disappear, that should be made clear.

claig · 09/06/2016 21:29

'Andrea Leadson comes across really well

i must admit never heard of her before and I think she is shining out, she seems far more intelligent than all the others really.'

Absolutely. She is not patronising, has common sense and the courage to tell the truth.

LineyReborn · 09/06/2016 21:30

So they've got female voices.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 09/06/2016 21:30

Ooh that was a kick for Nicola from Boris

Agree she is carrying the remain side Boris seems to have perked up now but it's Andrea Leadson who is coming over so well

OP posts:
LeaveTheRoundAbout · 09/06/2016 21:31

Actually it is Julie Etchimgham she's lovely but effing useless at chairing a debate.

It's like watching one of those ineffectual mums at a playbarm reading a paper and asking her out of comtrol toddler to stop throwing food at people.

Not remotely professional for ITV - actually not sure I ever watch ITV come to think of it - I see why now.

claig · 09/06/2016 21:32

Sturgeon "working with other countries". If only we had some real politicians in this country, they would be able to defeat some platitude spouting automaton like Sturgeon with ease.

In fact, maybe we have found one. Andrea Ledsom has the courage to take these phonies apart.

parmalilac · 09/06/2016 21:32

Agree that the Remain side aren't coming across well, and that much more should be made of the rebate point.
