Has anyone used the Boots recycling scheme?

If so can I recycle tablet packets? The white plastic ones with foil on the back that the tablet is pushed through?

I can’t find them on the list but am sure they were on the poster that I saw in store.

I don’t visit a branch often so don’t want to start collecting them if they’re not part of the scheme.

You get better value with beauty items than blister packs. With both you have to recycle five items, but spending £10 on beauty earns £5 worth of points, whereas blister packs give you £1 for £5 spend. However, if you only need to buy £5 worth of products then the blister packs are fine, you don't want to spend extra just to get points

Neversaygoodbye · 28/01/2026 16:24

My local store also have the habit of hiding the bins or removing them as they are full. Data connection in our town is hopeless so I’ve tried using the Boots wifi but them it says it can’t find me. It’s a total PITA and annoying as I have a nice collection of stuff to recycle but 9 times out of 10 I just can’t get it to work in store.

Fuckingfuckssake · 28/01/2026 18:10

@Muchtoomuchtodotry in the blister pack scheme, Google says that’s where they should go.

So I just tried to upload photos of a few bits and have had my daily contact lens cases refused as it’s the wrong scheme. I’m at a loss what is the correct scheme for these? Has anyone managed to do this?

It looks like contact lens packaging has to go to Boots Opticians
https://www.boots.com/opticians/opticians-advice/eco-friendly-eyewear
(Scroll down to Recycle Your Contact Lenses)
Doesn't look like you can get any points for it

ProfessorBinturong · 28/01/2026 18:43

Ah, missed that they were dailies. It accepts my soaking/neutralising case but I've never tried uploading the blister thing the lenses come in.

bugalugs45 · 28/01/2026 18:58

I do this alongside the toiletry / beauty scheme . The 2 stores I go to do both .
I get £6’s worth of points when i spend £10 so how is that not worth it ?
and yes the blister packs you describe are applicable .
you get £1 per £5 spent for those , but £5 per £10 for beauty , you can combine both vouchers 😊
any questions, just shout on here, it’s a bit of faff at first but easy once you get hang of it

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 28/01/2026 19:24

Love it love it love it. It is the best reward scheme on the high street. It was tricky at first but now , 1min and I'm done.
I got 2 large bottles of aftershave for Christmas, pretty much for free.

A Boots store I visit semi-regularly has one. I just dump the blister packs in there too in the hope they get recycled and don’t worry about any sort of reward!

Same here. I couldn't use the app and had no help from their customer services, but the bin has a notice on saying "everything will be recycled" so it all goes in there and never mind the points.

YellowHedgehog · 28/01/2026 19:37

@bugalugs45 Can you deposit both the beauty and blister packs, spend £10 and scan both vouchers together in the same transaction? So I wouldn't have to do two different transactions spending £15 in total? If yes, I feel like I've missed out on some free money. 😕

Manifesto · 28/01/2026 19:46

It’s ridiculously complicated. Tried it once. Not done it since. Which is a shame as the aim is great

Yes, you can.

Me too. I did the faff the first time but don’t bother now. However I do just chuck them all in as I get through a huge number and we only get our bins collected every 3 weeks.

Jamfirstest · 28/01/2026 20:47

I do it but it annoys me that I have to buy stuff to get any benefit. We have a bin in the utility that’s for complicated to recycle cosmetics and I scan them in batches.

Pollqueen · 28/01/2026 20:50

I take my used inhalers in which they accept. Didn't know I could get points in exchange though but from reading posts, it sounds like a huge faff

motherofbantams · 28/01/2026 20:50

Yes! Love it, have £300 of points from it - all based on stuff I would have bought anyway.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 28/01/2026 20:54

I use the app for beauty recycling all the time… it paid for my Shark Cryomask!!!
However, with blister packets I just put them in the recycling in store and don’t bother to collect the points.
I photograph as and when I get an empty, and always have five empties with my shopping bags for when I go into Boots.

BakeOffRewatch · 28/01/2026 20:56

Yup I use it, they take nappy outer packets and wipe packets and nappy sacks outer packet. They take toothbrush heads and empty dental floss containers. I have enough to max out the 8 drops a month limit, which is £40. It works as I’ve changed my buying habits to buy stuff from boots, they sell things like the Carex hand wash refill bags. I used to buy them as part of my weekly shop and I get them at Boots now.

Yes you can , I literally done it today ! Blister packs 4 times a month , beauty you can do 8 .

I'm sure the last time I tried that it didn't work and I only got the 500 points for the beauty scheme! I'm going to give it another try based on your message though, thanks.

DoYouWantHalfThisSandwich · 29/01/2026 09:54

Thank you for starting the thread @Muchtoomuchtodo 🩷 I’d seen the scheme advertised, but not actually got round to registering! Thanks to your post & all the advice given by other posters, app is now downloaded, registered & I’m good to go! As a chronically ill person with loads of meds, this might actually be one small positive 😂 Chronic illness = free lipstick!

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 29/01/2026 10:05

I tried to do this for thr tablet blister pack recycling, but take so many of them (both different meds and volume of packets) that it was just a complete nightmare.

Really seems to defeat the point of the entire scheme by making it so user un-friendly.

AnyOldNonsense · 29/01/2026 19:13

It is very complicated, only done blister packs so far as we get a load of those and they are easy.

For other things, how clean is clean? I just tried cutting off the end of a toothpaste tube and cleaning it with a bottle brush but can’t get it out from round the neck (it’s blue paste so you can see it). I guess they aren’t going to know from the photo but still nice to know hoe much effort needs to be made. What do others do?

Selfishly none whatsoever ! When I consider my tube finished that’s it , and if I’m being completely honest I’m only in it for the points , the recycling aspect is largely irrelevant 😬

ProfessorBinturong · 29/01/2026 20:10

Things like bottles that are easy to rinse, I do. But tubes just need to be fully squeezed.

DinoLil · 29/01/2026 20:59

I wanted to do this but, despite living in a county town, my local Boots don't offer it.
