Has anyone used the Boots recycling scheme?

If so can I recycle tablet packets? The white plastic ones with foil on the back that the tablet is pushed through?

I can’t find them on the list but am sure they were on the poster that I saw in store.

I don’t visit a branch often so don’t want to start collecting them if they’re not part of the scheme.

I recycle my insulin through the pencycle sceme. They send a box and i was supposed to be able yo take back to boots. They refused it in 2 branches of boots even though they mention it on website.

I was similar with Dupixent pens. They listed Boots stores that accepted sharps bins. I went out of my way to go to them and every one said they didn’t do that. Even when I showed them the page online they said they wouldn’t know what to do with it.

Cyclingmummy1 · 29/01/2026 21:13

It's very easy once you know what to do. Though I feel an amateur with my 80 quid compared to some of you!

Derbee · 29/01/2026 21:15

It’s really not complicated.

When items are finished, you take a photo of them and they get approved on the recycling app.

When you need toiletries, get them from Boots instead of the supermarket. You take 5 recycling items with you. Choose your purchases (I never spend more than £10 in one transaction!), deposit your items, get your £5 voucher issued. At the checkout, scan your voucher, pay for your items. Your Boots balance goes up by £5 almost immediately.

You spend money on toiletries anyway, and get 50% of the value of what you spend back straight away. Paid for my Dyson hairwrap in 18 months. Didn’t cost me a penny

Having checked with them I did upload my contact lens cases picture to the wrong scheme!

Apparently they’re in the blister pack scheme! 🙄😲

Well I’ve been taking my blister packs to Superdrug for ages and getting nowt in return so I will try this one. How comes it’s so hard to find? I knew about the beauty recycling.

As I have lots of blister packs hopefully I’ll get enough to get a new lippie or perfume.

Oh really? I put mine in the household recycling but can easily add them to the app.

Can you recycle HRT patches - the envelope bit and sticky protectors - not the patch itself?

No idea, sorry!

It's really easy once you get stuff uploaded. I usually use both vouchers at once so spend at least £10 and then at least £5 in 2 separate transactions. 600 points on top of the ones for what you spent.
I currently have £32 of points.
If you just want rid of blister packs, any Superdrug with a pharmacy will take them for recycling. My GP surgery has a bin for them too.

I think so as they take sachets and I've done things like eyelid wipe sachets. You just have to photograph/ deposit in batches of 5.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/02/2026 18:22

StripedPillowcase · 28/01/2026 12:15

Yes, with caveats.

The scheme for getting extra Advantage points for recycling is over-complicated and not really worth it, in my opinion. If you buy a lot in Boots and can break it down into small, regular purchases, it may well be worthwhile.

You have to download the app, and then photograph your blister pack or beauty product, toothpaste tube etc and they get accepted or rejected.

Then you have to find a Boots branch that accepts the recycled items. Some accept both blister packs and beauty items, some accept one or the other, more than 50% accept neither. You have to look on the app (under Account>Help) to find which branches accept what.

Then you haul your bag of recycling to the branch and hunt round and round (and round and round) the store to try to find the deposit bin. You ask staff, they look at you blankly and say they've never heard of it. Or you do find the bin, and especially in the case of blister packs, it's full and overflowing onto the floor.

You deposit your items, in groups of 5 or 10 (check the app), and claim your extra points voucher, which you can only use for 30 seconds between 4.57pm and 5.00pm on a Thursday if there's an R in the month. And only in certain stores, on certain products.

If I happen to be going to a store than accepts the recycling, I tend to dump it all in and not bother with the points. I suspect it all goes in the general rubbish anyway #cynical.

exactly this. I recycle my medicine packets at boots but I don’t claim the points because it’s too much of a ruddy faff.

ChanceOfALifeLine · 03/02/2026 18:29

I agree that it is so over complicated! But worth getting the hang of as you can easily get loads of points, once you’ve made it work once it’s fine. I wish I’d discovered it while still buying nappies and wipes!

SundayRoast1234 · 03/02/2026 18:32

I love this scheme. Once you get into a routine it’s really easy. I’ve earned hundreds of pounds worth of points. I don’t bother collecting points for the blister packs though I just take them in for recycling. I only bother with collecting points for beauty products.

AnyOldNonsense · 03/02/2026 22:17

I’ve just looked on my Boots app (always check £10 Tuesday) and found I get double points on all my spends this month because it’s my birthday month. So I need to max this scheme out this month so I get double points on all the £5 and £10 purchases as well as the scheme points. Just as well I decluttered my bathroom recently then…..

I've not had double on those points before, just the few on the additional points.

I’ve started using this now. I’ve got 15 blister packs and 8 beauty items what’s the best way to maximise deposit? I’m confused by the limit of 5 mentioned in the FAQs.

Heatedrival · 26/02/2026 17:37

It’s really good and easy.

There's a minimum of 5, not a limit. But you won't get extra credit for doing more than 5 at a time.

So do 5 of each this week, then another 5 blister packs next week and again the week after, and another 5 beauty items once you've got another 2 to make up the number.

They're two separate schemes essentially. You can get 8 vouchers per month, but only one of each on the same day, so you could deposit 5x blister and 5x beauty items today and get 1 voucher for 100 points on a £5 spend, and 1 voucher for 500 points on a £10 spend.

PPs have said you can use 2 vouchers on the same transaction, I've never tried that. So the other day, I did one beauty deposit of 5 items and used that voucher on a £10 spend, and one blister deposit of 5 items and used the second voucher on a £5 spend.

You can't combine 2x blister packs and 3x beauty items to make one deposit of 5 items.

If you've got loads of items, you can deposit them all on the same day if you just want rid, but you won't get any more vouchers.

Cyclingmummy1 · 26/02/2026 20:01

I did 5 of each last week not knowing if it would work, bought 2 x £6.50, 1 x free £13, 1 x £2.50, only paid £10.06 as I had 25% off £25 and got 600 points!

AnyOldNonsense · 27/02/2026 15:50

Cyclingmummy1 · 04/02/2026 20:05

Just coming back to this, having recycled as much as I could in Feb (birthday month). So say I did blister packs and a spend of £6, i got the 3 points for the £1 above the minimum spend but then also a birthday bonus of 18 points as well as the 100 points for the blister packs. So not huge but worth making the effort to max out on your birthday month. I managed 4 x blister and 2 x beauty deposits this month.

BakeOffRewatch · 27/02/2026 16:18

I’ve not done the blister packs before. So the maximum you can receive each month is

  • 8 lots of 500 points for beauty recycling. So £40 worth for 40 beauty items. Includes nappy packets, wipe packets, nappy sack packets, toothbrush heads. Redeem when spending £10
  • 4 lots of 100 points for blister pack recycling. So £4 worth each month for 20 blister packs. Redeem when spending £5.

So can you receive 600 points on a £10 transaction if you do both vouchers at same time?

If I keep saving nappy packs and so on I could easily do 40 items a month and buy things we need. Is the purchase of any products excluded like do they restrict voucher use in formula, medicine etc?

But you have to pay for that. The Boots scheme pays you.

Plus the normal points for that purchase.
