Homosexuality in the Classroom.

My daughter is nine. Yesterday she came home from school and said that her teacher had told the class that she was a lesbian. The teacher is about to have one of these civil partnerships and according to my daughter told the class that girls could marry girls and boys could marry boys if they wanted to.It was according to her entirely natural. This seems like corruption to me. I don't want my daughter exposed to this kind of lifestyle.

I am very upset about this and don't know what to do. Am I over reacting? Should the school have warned us that the teacher was going to do this? Do you think I should make a complaint to the school?

Surely every time a teacher gives a child a Biff and Chip book featuring a Mum and Dad who live together that teacher is expressing a view on what they think is normal?

Considering the number of gay parents, and the number of gay Aunts, Uncles, Godparents, neighbours, and family friends, it is silly to suggest that a school can stop children discussing gay people in front of your child until you decide that you want to inform your child yourself.

It is like requesting that the school hides the existence of pets, or fish fingers.

I am not for one moment backing up DP or the OP but as a single woman teaching in a Catholic school I was told that a miscarriage I suffered was probably a "fortunate thing" as it would save the embarressment of having an unmarried head of year.

daftpunk · 26/11/2009 20:05

Blu;

most religions are against homosexuality...i think that's a fact..

was a law passed in parliament that said everyone in the country had to agree with homosexuality..?

i must have missed that one..

..i'm living in a fascist country and i didn't even know....

dawntigga · 26/11/2009 20:07

**

seeker....we're not talking about freedom for prawns....this is about homosexuality.....most religions are against it...for obvious reasons..

the world would come to an end if we all became homosexuals..

maybe you should try showing some respect for my religious beliefs....

**

Could you clear up a couple of things for me?

Please quote chapter and verse to back up your first sentence.

Please advise what the obvious reasons are.

Please advise why anyone should show respect for anybody else's belief system.

'Im living in a facist country and didnt even know'

fucking brass neck coming from someone who spent about 20 pages defending the fecking BNP!

Talking of them. I got pissed off with Griffin telling everyone he was talking for ME (ie. white working class poor) I get equally pissed off with people going on about Christians against gays etc. I am a christian and I am not against gay people at all.

I wish people would speak for theirselves and not involve huge diverse groups in their mucky little idologies.

Morosky · 26/11/2009 20:11

I agree totally chegirl

stillfrazzled · 26/11/2009 20:13

DP, don't recall fascists of any description being all that keen on homosexuality.

In fact, I believe you may actually have just invoked Godwin's Law, which means anything you say from this point in is null and void anyway.

Chickenshavenolips · 26/11/2009 20:13

Well said chegirl

Daftpunk, we live in a democracy so you do have a right to your views, but homophobia is a hate crime just like racism.
+mathsanxiety would you really object if the OP's female teacher had announced she was marrying a man? Course not. Nobody would even blink, including you.

badietbuddy · 26/11/2009 20:20

Gosh, it's like dealing with a stroppy teenager. When you can't think of a reply, you just get huffy. Consistently. On every thread. It must be bloody exhausting carrying that huge chip on your shoulder.

stillfrazzled · 26/11/2009 20:21

DP, for someone who claims to enjoy a good debate you seem to spend no time at all considering others' arguments, and offer no actual facts of any description.

Which means you don't enjoy a debate, just a ruck. Yawn.

daftpunk · 26/11/2009 20:23

it isn't homophobic to not want a teacher talking to your 9 yr old about being a lesbian.....

why can't i just say "i think xyz" without having to produce a 20 page document to back it up....?

when you're out with with your friends do you carry books around to back up everything you say....?

i can't write long posts.., can't spell very well..y'know...not well educated, sorry.

but to compensate for that, i'll just rip out my soul for you...

stillfrazzled · 26/11/2009 20:37

I dunno, I don't ask for chapter and verse but if someone's going to express a very strong opinion about something I'd expect them to know a bit about it. To have reached a conclusion on the basis of facts.

At least, the people I respect do. The ones who don't want to be bothered with info because they've made their minds up - still their right, of course, but I don't feel I have to waste much thought on it.

I do get frustrated when people state what "religions" believe - if only it were that simple! For example, within the Christian church there are many, many gay people - including gay ministers and priests. In the Church of Scotland there is a gay minister who lives in the manse with his partner. It did of course cause controversy, but it's a nonsense for anyone to claim "christians are against homosexuality" or whatever.
