Working in a top private boarding school with entitled pupils

I work in a top private boarding school. Entitlement off the scale. I cansee why parents pay, however, but the aura of money and the stench if elitism is .. really gross.

I don't suppose having royal pupil now will help.

ElefantAndCastle · 13/09/2026 18:20

You did choose your job yourself right?
You can get a job in a run down state school if you are keen to explore something new...

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/09/2026 18:21

Work somewhere else 🤷🏻‍♀️

ArseSkinForAFriend · 13/09/2026 18:21

It must be awful having a gun to your head and being forced to work there.

Blimms · 13/09/2026 18:21

I hope you don’t teach given your writing ability

Westfacing · 13/09/2026 18:22

I hope you're not a teacher at this top private boarding school!

Greatwiseowl · 13/09/2026 18:22

Did 7 years in state -- loved it. Here I'm shocked daily by the richness of these families. Its like landing on Mars...

Do the boys and girls arrive entitled ie blame the parents or do they become entitled as a result of being at the school ?

But why if you don't like the families and pupils? You aren't forced are you?

Westfacing · 13/09/2026 18:23

Richness?

bigplate · 13/09/2026 18:23

The things you see in city comps are also rather gross, but in a different way, I guess.

If you actively resent and dislike this type of cohort, it's probably best to change jobs!

Richness? I think you mean wealth.

HambleTheDoll · 13/09/2026 18:24

Nice. I bet they love your positive attitude. Good job.

What is your job... teacher, admin, dame, dinner lady?

ElefantAndCastle · 13/09/2026 18:25

What are you so shocked about? Wealthy people have always made high demands haven't they? That’s nothing new.

Walkerzoo · 13/09/2026 18:26

If state was so good go back

Hmm maybe because the hours were awful, kids didn't know boundaries, parents didn't care or became pains

And you moved for more money and better holidays

But with it comes ... Another set of challenges

If you go to a fancy restaurant you want good service. Why is this different?

Blimms · 13/09/2026 18:28

There’s zero chance OP works in education because her grammar is appalling

Loads of teachers have terrible grammar, even English ones. I cringe all the time at the slides at Weekly Briefings - produced by Senior Leadership!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 13/09/2026 18:39

How can anyone work in a school and dislike all the pupils? It’s just jealousy isn’t it? Go back to state op.

dottiedodah · 13/09/2026 19:02

GreatWiseOwl If you loved state school so much why leave it?

CostcoFanofThree · 13/09/2026 21:25

that's kind of sad to hear @Greatwiseowl , DGD attends a fairly top one i gather, and she is lovely and her friends equally seem lovely.
the matron's send really balanced emails home with any concerns, and when i visit she is a typical teen.
i honestly thought staff loved their roles. if you really hate the atmosphere it might be best to cast your net and look for roles elsewhere.
i would like to hear examples of what you think is "entitlement".

Autumnpuddings · 13/09/2026 21:31

Is the school in the UK?

I am not anti independent education. But I also know I’d never work in a private school.

Notsosweetcaroline · 13/09/2026 21:34

You’re not a teacher? Are you admin, catering, cleaner?

you sound consumed with envy and inverted snobbery. Move back to state if you can’t cope.
