DS overheard me telling DH I had ordered two hampers for his teacher and class TA as a thank you gift.

DS was very pleased and told his teacher two hamsters are being delivered tomorrow.

I mean …

Sincere thanks to all amazing EYFS teachers and TAs. Honestly can’t believe how much ds has learned this year.

When I was little I had a babysitter called Lorraine who I thought was called “The rain”. I also thought the hymn that goes “pity my simplicity” was “ pity mice and pity me”.

on the prison thing my mum is a teacher and she kind of had the opposite to the pp when a kid said he was going to Lewes to see his grandad and my mum said “oh that’s a long way.” And the boy said “yes he used to live in [my town] but he did something naughty and has to live in Lewes for 4 years”.

I bet they will be thrilled and relieved when the hampers turn up. Thank you for sharing all these stories they've cheered me up no end. 😀

You can get talking hamsters on Temu! They answer you in any language that you speak. I bought 2 for my grandkids and 1 for me, which I later gave to our neighbours[ little girl. They ADORE them!

Pieceofpurplesky · 21/07/2026 00:59

Fantastic!
when my mum was little she overheard her mum and aunty talking. She went to school the next day and told her teacher she had to go home as her 'very close veins were hurting'
Her aunty was having her varicose veins done!

DS had a French teacher the whole way through primary school called Miss Adomomber. I believe I even called her that to her face on several occasions.

It was only when he was in year 6 and it was in was in the newsletter that Madame Lambert was sadly moving back to France that I realised I shouldn’t have relied on a little boy to correctly pronounce his French teacher’s name!

But why she didn’t correct any of the children and say you don’t need the”Miss” when saying “Madame” I’ll never know!

That is absalutely hilarious🤣🤣🤣

My Ds once told his teacher we had won the lottery !
Compkete story made up by him
He was so convincing with the number including hundreds of thousands and so many pence !
Teacher came out with him to congratulate me .
I had to tell her we hadn’t! He was such an honest wee boy they must have believed him but total fantasy on his part .
He’s grown up now and we had the easiest time with him out of all the kids! They are so funny at times !

My four-year-old told me: “Mr Tumble is for children with special knees”.

Regarding teachers’ names - she told me that her teacher for Y1 would be “Mrs Flamingo”. She’s actually called Miss Fleming.

Later, she told me that another teacher, Mrs Brown, had a husband called “Robert Catesby”. That name faintly rung a bell, but I couldn’t place him.

I googled him and realised that he was the leader of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Which is a topic that her class was studying. What a load of rhubarb that child says!

I love hamsters so I’d quite like this gift.

We used to live down the road to a friend (we called her nanny julie)

We would come out of our house, down the road, over a main road and then onto her estate

The problem was, where she lived was a confusing maze of houses and it was guaranteed I'd get us lost when we went to her house

One day dd (then aged 7) said 'I know the way to nanny julies' and lead us straight there

I laughed and said 'oh sweetheart, did you use your nose, like a dog to sniff out the route to nanny Julie's?' (I'd explained about an hour earlier that dogs use scent rather than sight)

Knocked on the door and the first words out of her big gob where 'hello nanny Julie,my mummy says your house stinks'!

Poor nanny julie-i did not say that (she was very houseproud!) and I know she didn't believe me when I explained

Leave nursery one day DS asked "Who was the guy who blew up the houses??"

It took a bit for me to twig he was talking about Guy Fox and fireworks 🎆

My sister is a teacher. One little boy told her he had a cat called Ashtray. When my sister asked the parents, it turned out the cat was a stray.

Rothburypixie · 21/07/2026 13:57

My son once told my mum I had a man in my bedroom making loud noises…. A workman was replacing a radiator 😩

Edit to add my brother once told his teacher my dad was putting drugs in the loft, he was putting in some old rugs, my mum was horrified

Undergroundovergroundwomblingfree · 21/07/2026 14:13

Bless him, I bet that will really make his teachers laugh.
Such funny stories on this thread, they do come out with the funniest things.

My daughter came running out of school one day to say her teacher wasn't in that day as she was on a cruise. I bet her teacher wished she was, but she was actually out on a course all day.

Aposterhasnoname · 22/07/2026 09:31

You definitely have to put a "Siberian hamster" in each hamper, Manuel style

We had a morris dancer teacher in Year 1 at the school where I worked as a TA. The Head was bemused to receive several emails from worried parents one evening, complaining their children had been taught pole dancing. They meant maypole dancing obviously!! 😂

Edited

Parents are mental!!! 😳

My kids nagged me every school holiday to go to 'the orange shop and see the big houses'

Took me ages to work out they meant b&q and the 'big houses' where the sheds they sold

Once I'd worked it out,we spent many a happy hour just wandering around,in and out of giant sheds and looking at the fireplaces

My father was right when he said 'kids want what is in front of them and the bits that keep them happy ate often free'

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 22/07/2026 10:02

I do like going inside a nice new shed. No dirt or clutter, just space. Such a rarity! I’m 44 Blush

Spidey66 · 22/07/2026 10:05

Bless him!!!!

I rember telling teachers our new 3 piece suite in the living room cost 3p (3p suite).

CatkinToadflax · 22/07/2026 10:08

When DS1 was little he often asked to go to Orgossit. DH and I had no idea what Orgossit could be. DS1 assured us that “it’s a big place with lots of things”. DS2 vehemently agreed.

Several weeks after Orgossit was first mentioned - and continued to be discussed regularly between the boys - an advert came on tv. They shouted to me and DH that there was Orgossit. It turned out to be that advert for Argos where they used the phrase “Argos it”.

Bobbybobbins · 22/07/2026 10:10

I love this

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 22/07/2026 10:11

That's so cute! You have to get the toy hamsters to go in each hamper!

CosiFannyTutte · 22/07/2026 10:13

Brilliant 😁😁

ClairDeLaLune · 22/07/2026 10:32

DS in year 5 was learning about puberty and had to label a picture of a developing boy. Not sure if “public hair” was quite correct!
