DS overheard me telling DH I had ordered two hampers for his teacher and class TA as a thank you gift.

DS was very pleased and told his teacher two hamsters are being delivered tomorrow.

I mean …

Sincere thanks to all amazing EYFS teachers and TAs. Honestly can’t believe how much ds has learned this year.

Back in Year 5 I wanted to get DS's teacher a nice bottle of something at Christmas. Asked DS if he knew what his teacher's tipple was and he was insistent that teacher did not drink ANY ALCOHOL AT ALL. NEVER. I said 'oh, is he teetotal then?' DS confirmed that was the case. I let other parents in the class know as I was pretty sure this teacher had received some rather nice tipples in the past, and got him some gardening vouchers instead.

Turned out that DS had simply never SEEN him consuming alcohol at his desk in the classroom during school time. "Only ever water" apparently. It hadn't occurred to him that the teacher may have a life outside of school and was probably in dire need of a stiff drink. I hope to God he never found out it was me that went round informing people that he would not welcome alcoholic gifts that year. (The lesson here of course is: Don't try to send alcohol into primary schools in the first place. And don't interfere).

I hope your teachers get their hamsters though, OP!

Everyone knows that reception/Y1 teachers sleep at school so it will be nice company for them over the summer.

Thats hilarious 😂
Although I can't imagine any teacher discussing their favourite drink with kids ever

DS had a French teacher the whole way through primary school called Miss Adomomber. I believe I even called her that to her face on several occasions.

It was only when he was in year 6 and it was in was in the newsletter that Madame Lambert was sadly moving back to France that I realised I shouldn’t have relied on a little boy to correctly pronounce his French teacher’s name!

But why she didn’t correct any of the children and say you don’t need the”Miss” when saying “Madame” I’ll never know!

My kids had a French teacher in nursery that was called ‘je m’appele Elaine’
they called her that for a whole term

Or they all live together in one house. I taught at a primary school and lived just around the corner from it at the time. A couple of the children passed one day as I was working in my front garden. They asked me where Mr Teacher was (a colleague I worked with). I told them he was in the back room watching the racing😂. It always used to make me laugh as well at how incredulous the children would be if they happened to see me on the bus. I had a colleague who used to tell the children she was an identical twin and not their teacher if she saw her pupils when she was outside of school.

A child bought in a woman’s magazine that featured a relative for show and tell. He later read out another articles headline “Im pot ent” and asked what it meant. I told him to go home and ask his mum - who’d allowed him to bring in the magazine in the first place.

At school, we had an English exam (SATS?) in which we had to read a text about Bedale in Yorkshire and use the relevant info. in it to write a piece of our own.

One of my classmates clearly didn’t bother to read the text and wrote a piece about Jeremy Beadle.

It was an Inset Day.

My son sobbed in school because they got the words of baa baa black sheep wrong. Apparently the last line was " And one for the little boy who lives down the drain".

BirdLandedonmyHead · 26/07/2026 09:02

My DD tild the teacher she was late as I had been stopped by the Police for Drinking and Drugs.

Fortunately, I had told Reception when dropping them off I had been delayed leaving the Army barracks where we lived due to the Drug testing team being in (meaning that all cars/people leaving the camp had to be signed out).

I was on a train and a girl of about 10 started reading magazine articles to her younger sister (and the surrounding people in the carriage). It was a teenage magazine and all went well until she started loudly reading one about "Master turbion" and her poor mum suddenly went into overdrive trying to shush her!

DS was a very late talker, but one day he went to school and he said he was hungry, so the teacher said not long now until lunchtime, he burst out crying and said "when I'm hungry my mummy gives me a smack".

Got called into school, DS was in the next room still screaming and crying where his teacher was apologetic and said that she had to talk to me about a safeguarding concern but DSs screams got louder and louder "I want a smack! A smack from my bag!"

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Snack.

My kids primary school teacher was an identical twin, and her identical twin worked at the secondary school. When we were looking at secondary schools we said Oh look- another Miss x. Imagine our surprise when we walked in and apparently their primary school teacher was standing there!

My daughter (Y2) still talks in wonder about the time we saw one of her teachers on the bus - it was well over a year ago!

When I was born my sister was so excited she went back and told everyone that mum had had twins! Nope just me and I was not such a big baby either.

As a mum and grandma with a large family plus many friends, every birthday, Christmas and Mothers Day I am very fortunate to receive many gifts, which I really appreciate. However, nearly all of these presents are random gift/cosmetic sets of items I seldom use. So I now have a cupboard full going back a few years, and am wondering if, although unopened they may have gone out of date, as I am determined to start using them or donate some to a charity shop. I keep reading information warning using old sunscreen lotions.

Leave nursery one day DS asked "Who was the guy who blew up the houses??"

It took a bit for me to twig he was talking about Guy Fox and fireworks 🎆

Guy Fawkes 😂 He did not have a brush for a tail. 😂

When I was little I had a babysitter called Lorraine who I thought was called “The rain”. I also thought the hymn that goes “pity my simplicity” was “ pity mice and pity me”.

on the prison thing my mum is a teacher and she kind of had the opposite to the pp when a kid said he was going to Lewes to see his grandad and my mum said “oh that’s a long way.” And the boy said “yes he used to live in [my town] but he did something naughty and has to live in Lewes for 4 years”.

“I can see clearly now Lorraine has gone…”.
