Competitive parenting nightmare

My five year old daughter has come back from a playdate and told me the mother gave her a spelling test! I had my doubts about this woman who because my daughter is bright, regards her as a rival for the private school place she wants for her own daughter when they have to take their 7plus exams at the end of their current school.
I am so angry I could scream. Any thoughts on how I should handle this - and any other similar experiences. Is this an isolated experience?

She's never going to reply,...because she knows she'll be universally slated! Some people have no shame...imagine doing that to your daughter! UNBELIVABLE!

controlfreaky2 · 08/11/2007 12:23

oh i know.... but i like to think of her unable to resist revisiting the scene of her crime and lurking in a compulsive way.....
SHAME ON YOU WOMAN (on so many levels).

Bink · 08/11/2007 12:23

(I bet she's also been congratulating herself on her stealthy inconspicuous unsuspected research. Shall we all brightly & helpfully point her towards the (paid-for) Media section next time?)

Dinosaur · 08/11/2007 12:24

Lol at "brightly & helpfully"!!!

controlfreaky2 · 08/11/2007 12:26

mmm, not so keen on the brightfull and helpfully bit myself....
would prefer to poke into the media corner with a big (sharp) stick....
shall we sneak on her to mnhq??
"MIIIIIIIISSSSSS......."

ingles2 · 08/11/2007 12:26

OMG! Have you read her article on Nannies?

controlfreaky2 · 08/11/2007 12:29

link please..... although i am sure it's v informative / witty / helpful

ingles2 · 08/11/2007 12:32

Go to same article,,.at top..more by this author!

RosaTransylvania · 08/11/2007 12:34

See this thread

frogs · 08/11/2007 12:36

Hmm, nine nannies in five years. Methinks this says more about her than it does about the nannies.

hunkermunker · 08/11/2007 12:37

I rather think there's a complete lack of self-awareness at the root of all this.

How is this an OK way to behave - I'm talking about the whole social circle described here?!

Hallgerda · 08/11/2007 12:37

There's a comments section at the foot of the Mail articles - have you considered "outing" her research methods there, Rose?

and maybe ... who knows ... she isn't just "lilylove" ...

Someone at a bored moment might have fun seeing whether keywords in the Lead Gobsmacking Anecdote in each article match up with a intriguingly echoing thread.

It makes me a bit sad, though, to see that someone can march on here with a fixed (and shallow) hook for a column, trawl for colour, and then march off again - having taken absolutely nothing, but nothing, of the nuance and perspective that is generally available. Hey ho.

Hallgerda · 08/11/2007 12:43

I quite agree, DoodleDooToo. I don't feel sufficiently involved in this one that it's my place to do it (or the action I previously suggested) but has anyone reported this thread to MN Towers?

Bink · 08/11/2007 12:43

hmm.

Please re-word the end of my post to delete "that is generally available" to "that is the whole point of posting on MN"

Hallgerda · 08/11/2007 12:44

Sorry, Doodledootoo - cross-posted.

I was thinking more along the lines of making her cough up the media fee or leave, DoodleDooToo...

ingles2 · 08/11/2007 12:49

Got to be time to report her to MNHQ.....
By the way,.love the title of the article,,spying,lying,cheating..!

happystory · 08/11/2007 12:52

how desperate and crap unconfident must she be in her abilities as a journalist?!

LL now reported to MNHQ

Enid · 08/11/2007 13:17

why would you talk so openly about your child and her 'friends' in a national newspaper? That is slightly whoring I must say.
