THe theory I was talking about was some educational theory which I suppose interests me as I have gone on to study psychology so am interested in how the brain works, how we retain information and learning styles which does inorm my planning. I do think there is more to educationla theory than not teaching Yr 7 pupils A Level stuff but I will admit my bias as I have gone on to study psychology and had considered a career move into educational psychology.

But also theory related to my subject specialism, my degree was in Theology and we never touched on world religions, why RE is important, how you promote moral and spiritual welfare, dealing with conflicting truth claims, assessing pupils writing about beliefs and feelings etc. We did Philosophy, Biblical Studies, Greek Hebrew and Church History. My subject knowledge for my teaching with the exception of perhaps A level and some GCSE same from my own personal work while I was preparing for my PGCE as like martianbishop I had to create a file showing that I had covered in my case the six word religions.

I do think a lot of this has to do with the subject you teach though, would be interested if other RE teachers feel the same or perhap I am a swotty geek!
