What a crap remark, Hyacinth. Barely worth a response, really.

MANDYJ · 17/06/2006 21:15

Poor Hyacinth = no wonder she left. Read other remarks people have made to her in other topics. Good Luck Hyacinth

DC and Hyancith are made for each other! He wants to kiss you! He wants to hug you! He wants to marry you!

is dc domminiconnor or whatever he/she's called? hyacinth was saying how much she hates her dsd on another thread. I thought she was genuine and tried to be nice!

MANDYJ · 17/06/2006 23:04

Was using work computer that night - HYACINTH must be someone I know.

TITCH21 · 17/06/2006 23:09

Hi new to this game. We are sending DS to private school. Weighed up all the options and thought it would offer him a good education.

plummymummy · 18/06/2006 00:52

Erm......well I'm glad ds will be going to a state primary so that at least he won't be mixing with the off spring of a couple of posters here. Hyacinth, I'm very pleased your mind is made up Wink

We looked at state and private for dd and settled at the end for our local catholic school. For us community was a big factor, our dd has a lot of friends that would be going to our local catholic primary form church and nursery. It is around the corner so I can walk her to and from school and is she ever wants to have friends back to play or visit friends she will not have to go very far and it will be easy We know the headmaster and some of her teachers as well as some of the older children there, many of which live on our street and she already plays with. We know many of the parents socially and I am certain that if dd had any issues I would know very soon and it could be sorted quickly. No flash resoures, stunning architecture or position in the local league tables could come close to the value of being part of a local active caring community so we have chosen to support that community and choose our local state school.

But i do admit that choice is made easier by the fact that we are church goers who can walk into a very good church school

Obviously there are good teachers in private schools but I have known lots of teachers who just couldn't hack the state system and were often unprepared, unmotivated and lacking any charisma who have gone into the private sector.

True true Grin

TwinsetandPearls · 18/06/2006 01:25

AS a teacher in a state school it is tempting to diss the other side but that is not entrirely fair. In the state sector there are crap teachers clinging on for their pension, maybe it is just more unexpected in the private sector so you notice it more.

the comparison the nhs and private is so true,or it certainly was when I nursed 15 yrs ago.The nurses wwere all inexperienced part timers and there was hardly any decent experienced medical cover. If a loved one of mine needed hospitalisation I would go nhs every time.It may all be completely different now though.

Also to add to the education bit,a good friend of mine is taking her son out of a prep school because of the appalling attitude of the staff to the bullying her son has endured. No recognition of the problem and no anti bullying policy.

bloss · 18/06/2006 03:23

Ds is currently at a state primary. It's great in many ways, but I'm looking around to go private for him. Will cost a bomb and it will hurt, but I keep looking at him thinking 'you deserve better than this'. Have dropped in on a few private schools and while I have reservations about all of them, they are ALL better than his school... :( Would have liked to save the money!

Enid · 18/06/2006 06:52

I cant get over the fact that dds best friend is off to a private primary in September and has to wear NAVY regulation knickers in case anyone ever sees her pants

wtf

also the private primary uniform in the summer is a sailor dress which I think looks ridiculous

they are my informed reasons for choosing state primary Grin
