@Maddie020 so sorry to hear you've been having a hard time. I don't think you can ever anticipate how hard it's going to be emotionally. The abandoned cycle I had last time had me distraught for weeks! We're still going ahead...

@Tasha1607 I spoke to the consultant on the phone last night and we're going to keep going until the bitter end. They've upped my dose of Menopur and I'm taking it every night now. If I over stimulate, they'll destroy a few eggs and proceed with IUI. Only fear is that I won't respond at all. If this doesn't work (either we abandon or get a BFN) we'll move straight to IVF - I just have to find the £££!

BananaHammock23 · 26/09/2020 17:22

Oh also @Maddie020 - I've been having weekly acupuncture throughout my the entire process. It obviously hasn't worked any miracles for me as we've had two rounds abandoned and might be about to abandon a third. But the jury's still out! Let's see on Monday

LifeIsBusy · 26/09/2020 17:52

@BananaHammock23 would you not qualify for IVF on the NHS due to an underlying medical issue preventing you from doing an IUI cycle? Perhaps worth a phone call to your GP?

Tasha1607 · 26/09/2020 17:53

@BananaHammock23 do they not discount the IVF at all?

My clinic we had discounted IVF after the IU if it didn't work and they offered it to us for free if we egg shared.

LifeIsBusy · 26/09/2020 17:54

@Maddie020 I'm OK, just hoping to get through the next couple of weeks. How are you doing? Are you going straight into your second round? If you look at the success rates of IUI its actually quite low per round but overall its quite a high chance of getting pregnant so don't be out off thst round 1 wasn't a success.

BananaHammock23 · 26/09/2020 18:11

@LifeIsBusy I've already tried the GP after the first abandoned cycle. They said they don't do any treatment with donor sperm on the NHS in Kent (which I find pretty unbelievable as I'm sure if this was a hetero couple struggling to conceive due to the male partner's sperm count they'd still be eligible for treatment!). I've emailed around to try and get to the bottom of it so will keep exploring all options. It's bonkers isn't it?

@Tasha1607 nope no discount. What clinic are you with if you don't mind sharing? We're with London Women's Clinic in Canterbury.

Tasha1607 · 26/09/2020 19:41

@BananaHammock23 complete fertility in Southampton. But they Have a hospital in Portsmouth and Bournemouth. Is that quite a travel for you?

Go have a look at their website everything is on there. I would even recommend calling them and explaining your circumstances as they might be able to offer some advice about it all. They were fantastic for me and my wife. I would highly recommend.

BananaHammock23 · 28/09/2020 09:47

Thanks @Tasha1607 - will check it out!

Today is the day we find out if round 3 is going to go ahead. Scan is at 11.30am... really nervous. Part of me is optimistic, the other part of me is setting myself up for another day in bed crying! I just want to catch a break :(

LifeIsBusy · 28/09/2020 10:17

@BananaHammock23 Fingers crossed for you! I hope everything goes well. I honestly can't believe that they do not offer treatment on the NHS with donor sperm. Have you contacted your local NHS fertility clinic to confirm? I hear of a lot of people with different experiences when speaking to their dr in Scotland as a lot of them do not know what is on offer and you need to do your research before you go in.

ally99101 · 28/09/2020 12:28

Good luck today @BananaHammock23

BananaHammock23 · 28/09/2020 16:20

Thanks @ally99101 @LifeIsBusy - sadly our fears were confirmed. Another round cancelled. I'm totally devastated. I'm just not responding to medication at all. My womb lining is starting to thin now so if they keep stimulating it will be too late by the time we get to the IUI. I really thought this time would've worked (and I don't even mean get pregnant, I just mean have the IUI!). We're starting IVF with my next cycle, just need to miraculously find £5k and get this stubborn stone off. Thanks for all your support x

Tasha1607 · 29/09/2020 10:46

@BananaHammock23 I am really sorry to hear that. Maybe IUI just isn't for you and the IVF will work for you. I really really hope it does.
I can't imagine what you could possibly be going through but still try and be positive about it. You're moving onto the next chapter IVF.

LifeIsBusy · 29/09/2020 11:41

@BananaHammock23 I am soo sorry!! How are you both dealing with it? I can't imagine what you are going through but as @Tasha1607 said, perhaps IUI just isn't for you. IVF does have better success rates and you can control it a little better. This isn't the end of the road, there are many ways to become a parent and we all have different stories of how we got there.

BananaHammock23 · 29/09/2020 15:56

Thanks @Tasha1607 @LifeIsBusy - we're ok, just trying to come to terms with the fact that all this money and injecting and hormones and excitement has been for nothing (again!). We had a call with our consultant today and we've agreed to go forward with IVF next cycle, so probably around November time. Hopefully this time we'll have some luck. I feel totally exhausted, and can't believe that we've spent this whole year trying to get pregnant and haven't even had our chance yet. Now I've just got to find the cash and try and get this last bloody stone off so I can actually have the egg retrieval!

Tasha1607 · 29/09/2020 16:43

@BananaHammock23 oh bless you. Well I think you should a deserve bottle of wine. Let all the stress out now and get your body ready for the egg retrieval. You are so brave to go down that route after all you've been through!

BananaHammock23 · 30/09/2020 13:02

Thank you @Tasha1607 - a friend of ours always says it's like snakes and ladders and I have to say I agree!!

LifeIsBusy · 30/09/2020 13:45

@BananaHammock23 Thats a fantastic way to describe it and its totally true. I remember someone telling us it was like being stuck on a roller-coaster and you can't get off just yet. Which also works as you get your hopes up for half the month, then they come flying down , you get over that and you go back up again.

It will take its tole but your kids will be extra loved in the end.

LifeIsBusy · 05/10/2020 11:52

@Tasha1607, 12w! What date is your scan? I had my midwife appointment last week and my wife is allowed to attend the scan. I was also surprised by the changes they had implemented since DS as they now offer additional screening and if that comes back higher risk they no longer do invasive tests but just additional blood screening which I thought was amazing.

Tasha1607 · 05/10/2020 12:19

@LifeIsBusy I know!!! I can't believe it's here already! Can relax slightly now!
My scan is on Thursday! That is amazing news! My wife is allowed to come with me and we are just super excited for it!

LifeIsBusy · 05/10/2020 13:31

@Tasha1607 How are you feeling now? Has the sickness gone forever now?

I'm excited too but i'm still living in denial. I mean I understand that I'm pregnant and clearly look pregnant but I don't think the idea of a child has actually sunk in.

Tasha1607 · 05/10/2020 14:55

@LifeIsBusy I'm glad that I'm not the only one that feels like this. My wife just constantly feels like it's too good to be true.

I have been really good. Until yesterday, I was called to go back into the office and I'll start my working from home in my third trimester. Sickness was horrendous. And today I've woken up with a huge headache and no appetite and I feel really run down. It's worrying me.

How about you? How are you feeling? Are you going to find out what you are having?

LifeIsBusy · 05/10/2020 15:03

@Tasha1607, I assume you work in an office that can't work from home? I thought the guidance changed in England to reflect Scotland? My company managed one day in our English office with 3 members of staff before they closed the office again and we've been told we will not be back until next year.

Thankfully the sickness as almost gone but I do still feel awful strange in the morning. I have turned into a crying human though, I literally can't watch anything on TV without bursting into tears which is stupid as I am really not one of these humans and the daily headache is still here which is frustrating. I've informed my midwife that it will be gone soon though (she could only laugh).

Why are you concerned about it, because its new? We are going to find out, I figure if the sonographer knows then I should know. Are you going to find out?

Tasha1607 · 05/10/2020 15:18

@LifeIsBusy I work in a call centre for the police. I've been working from home since IUI started. And they've stated that the guidelines state I can be in work so I'll be in work until they change. Even though they say work from home if you can.

Ah that's good to hear. I just want to get back onto a normal diet again. Have you had any cravings yet? Oh the hormones, my wife just has to look at me and I'm in tears over something silly, and I'm the same as you, not the crying sort lol.

Yeah this is all different to what I've been dealing with. I know you can have good days and bad days. I don't know if I put too much stress on myself going back into the office yesterday and it's making me feel like this.

No we aren't going to find out. We want it to be a surprise. This is our first child so we just want the surprises that we possibly can and just try and enjoy the pregnancy. Are you hoping for anything in particular?

LifeIsBusy · 05/10/2020 16:21

@Tasha1607 I would have thought the entire business would have returned to home then given there is the option there. Perhaps they can't have everyone at home though?

No cravings to date, I don't think I remember having any with DS though. There was just an ever growing list of things I didn't want to eat which appears to be similar this time round. Have you had any cravings yet?

Perhaps it is just the additional stress of going back into the office. It's more than likely (or you've not drank enough). I'm trying to drink as much as possible today to avoid the headaches but they've not gone anywhere yet.

I honestly don't mind either way, I definitely prefer boys so it would be nice to have another but I can see both situations working out just fine. What would you like?

Tasha1607 · 05/10/2020 18:33

@LifeIsBusy I know they are short staffed it just concerning with the rise in cases and no particular guidelines in place to protect pregnancy individuals or other vulnerable People.

No not yet. I seem to be the same as you with the horrendous list of things I can not eat. Coming from someone that isn't a picky eater it's horrendous.

Today I can't seem to keep anything down. I've had to call in sick cause there was no chance of me driving or physically being able to work. I think you're right it's the additional stress. Wish I could have a bath! Hmm

When is your scan booked for??

We don't mind. We think it's a girl. But a happy baby is all we are after. Did you find out with your first child?
