Okay, time to clip in, or out...fill those bidons, and get our merde together.....we roll out from Wonderful Copenhagen for the biggest push bike competition on the planet.
Not sure where velogames are actually up to, but nevertheless we go on Friday. Will set up the league later today. Time to consider options........and who we will curse with selections...will post the link shortly..Bike

This was the falling off as he was far back in the pack in the final sprint and tried to force a space in the middle of the road where there wasn't one. So bringing down one of the Greenedge sprinters and someone else iirc. He was miles off the lead ( in a sprint miles off can be about 10 yrds,,) but obvs thought it was worth the risk to others.....

Spotted this on active and placemarking for my favourite three weeks of the year.

Plasmodesmata · 30/06/2022 23:00

Thanks Pan, I didn't watch it as I was up the road a way and saw them zoom past then just heard everyone say "Cav's fallen off outside Bettys". I thought it was an odd way to get a cup of tea and a Fat Rascal.

EddyMerckxAteMyHamster · 30/06/2022 23:09

If Jakobsen doesn't beat van Aert he's going to be seen as a failure.

In fact, if he doesn't win the Green jersey he's going to be seen as a failure. Cav may not have won it this year, but he's the defending champion so...

RafasLeftBicep · 30/06/2022 23:21

@Dinneronmybfpillow the ITV lot is usually fronted by Gary Imlach secret heart throb with commentary by Ned Boulting & David Millar. They've added Peter Kennaugh to the team in recent years especially since Chris Boardman left. Pippa York is often bright in too.

As long as Carlton Kirby is not doing the commentary on Eurosport... But I do enjoy Orla on Eurosport.

RafasLeftBicep · 30/06/2022 23:24

It was a bit rotten for Jakobsen during the team presentation when the giant screen behind him started showing video of Cav winning stages and the green jersey from last year! And yes, unless he wins more than Cav did last year, it's not going to be a "success" for QS, is it?

Still, all the better chances for WVA!

Pan2 · 30/06/2022 23:30

Ha!

I do recall your reportage from the stage. Armed only with a flag and a whistle as the pack bore down on you! And wasn't your partner on patrol duties off route?

Yeah not Cav's best moment but his grim determination at bouncing back is admirable n'est-ce pas?

DS and I will be watching on GCN on the laptop in my bedroom as we dont have a TV upstairs and we are both Covid positive. Since the rest of the family are miraculously still negative, we are keeping ourselves to ourselves.
Means we won't be able to have our customary competition as to who counts David Millar say "blow the race apart" most. Still, even he might have trouble saying that too often in a TT and we might be out of quarantine on Saturday!

Plasmodesmata · 01/07/2022 00:08

That wasn't me with a whistle, no, I was just watching. Not brave enough!

Dinneronmybfpillow · 01/07/2022 01:46

Thanks @RafasLeftBicep. Managed to find a podcast with them including the secret crush (not that secret tbh but DH has a man crush on VVA so it's allowed). All is good!

Pan2 · 01/07/2022 08:36

Oh I'm sorry Plasmodesmata ! I think name-changing and time, and age..seems to have caught up! One of our peloton was on bollard duties in 2014 and reported the whole experience, graphically.

For those MN Peloton members who are new to these pages...over the years we've had a practice of NOT commenting on stages in real time. This is with respect to folks who have day time demands and so can't watch live and rely on the tv highlights in the evening, so get 'spoilers' from the day and so reduces their excitement.
It's mix bag of opinions on this and we have re-visited it from time to time. For me, I'd think it's okay to post in the day and people who wish to avoid the thread til the evening can do so, but others think differently.

It would be jolly IF we can agree on the omerta, or not, prior to the Grand Depart, and stick to what we agree?
Views please?

I’m with your logic. Post away in real time and avoid the thread if you’re watching on catch-up later gets my vote.

prettybird · 01/07/2022 11:22

I'm easy either way. If I'm ever out and don't want to know the result (once we were coming back from holiday on the final day and we had to avoid the radio driving back up to Glasgow from Manchester as we didn't want to know if Cav had succeeded he had Grin), I avoid all forms of news anyway.

EddyMerckxAteMyHamster · 01/07/2022 11:54

I'd agree that if I wanted to wait for the highlights I'd avoid this thread. It can be interesting seeing peoples opinions on what is going on live. I hope to be able to watch a few stages live (on the telly that is, unfortunately not in person).

JofraArchersFastestBall · 01/07/2022 11:58

I'm not worried about 'spoilers' - if I watch live it's nice to see others opinions, and if waiting for the highlights I just avoid the internet.

MrsAvocet · 01/07/2022 12:11

I also don't mind people commenting in real time. Until I am out of my Covid prison I will be watching and once I'm not, so many of my friends are cycling fans that I'd need to avoid all social media if I wanted to miss spoilers prior to the highlights. Not clicking on this thread is a lot easier than not looking at my own Facebook all day!

Olinguito · 01/07/2022 12:34

Good to see so many teams in Mumsnet Mayhem - 20 entrants when I last looked!

I'm happy to avoid the thread until after the highlights have been shown if people want to post during the live event. If I'm watching during the day then it's good to see other people's comments at the time.

Plasmodesmata · 01/07/2022 13:19

My phone spoilers me all the time, just because I look at the odd bit of cycling stuff it thinks I want to know stage winners. I think if I wanted to wait until the evening I'd have to hide everything.

Pan2 · 01/07/2022 14:17

Yep I think 20 teams is the most we've had, though george at velogames is just a wheel sucker! Bike

It looks like the race Commissar has waved the flag for real time posts to go ahead, then?

Only half an hour to destroy your podium teams! Still stuck in the Jakobsen-van Aert conundrum.

Jumbo-Visma best have a really good Tour!

Allez La Mumsnet! Bike

DramaAlpaca · 01/07/2022 15:36

There's 21 teams now, thanks to a last minute entry by a Sean Kelly fan who might be someone connected to me Wink

I don't care where I am in the table as long as I beat him!

User3568975431146 · 01/07/2022 15:38

We saw it one day by complete accident when we were on holiday and it was going through the town in which we were staying. We were walking along the road when they zoomed past, what a fuss over absolutely nothing!

EddyMerckxAteMyHamster · 01/07/2022 17:05

So Geraint forgot to take his gilet off!

Pan2 · 01/07/2022 21:05

DA you are being magnanimous to a fault! Grin
