Bonfire of the Vanities - shockingly awful.

Agree with the loathing of anything to do with Richard Curtis post Blackadder.

And remakes of fantastic Japanese horror films that lose their impact once Hollywood have got their hands on them.

As an aside, I tried really valiantly to watch 'The Brave' by Johnny Depp the other evening. Turned it off after 20 minutes. Is it worth another try, or shall I send it back? (bearing in mind that even the fact that the man himself stars in the film did not hold my attention for more than 20 mins!)

Notting Hill
4 Weddings and a funeral
Eyes wide shut
The Piano

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 18/10/2006 10:51

the original japanese version of 'pulse' (its called kairo) isnt too bad

ledodgywizardrobespierre · 18/10/2006 10:52

Yeah my friend said that I would have watched that first if I had the choice but another friend brought a copy of the us version round. The japanese ones are always far better.

Ouisie · 18/10/2006 11:01

Meet The Fockers was dire, couldn't watch Wolf Creek, hated The Cave, fell asleep in Amelie and the Da Vinci code. Any comedy with Adam Sandler.

Terrible (in a good way) movies must include any zombie film - loved all the Dead movies. But i do have terribly low brow taste (I got Alien V Predator out and loved it).

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 18/10/2006 11:05

Romero's 'dead quadrilogy' is utter genius........80's italian rip -offs on the other hand, are a guilty pleasure in this house!!!!

KathyDCLXVI · 18/10/2006 11:05

Oh yes, agree with all the RIchard Curtis rants.
I used to think it was harmless fun until I tried to watch 4 Weddings again the other night and couldn't believe how snobbish it was and worst of all, how it is full of messages about how it is ok to laugh at people for being less beautiful and cool than you....
(And then he sets himself up like he's some great moral figure with 'Girl in a Cafe'. Bleurgh.)

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 18/10/2006 11:17

must admit i enjoyed 'wolf creek' (tho i did find the lead actresses chin quite disturbing)

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 18/10/2006 11:21

talking of hugh grant (as someone was ages ago) anyone else think his best performance is in ken russell's criminally underated 'lair of the white worm'?

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 18/10/2006 11:24

oops! posted that twice! must have been the thought of hugh in that r.a.f uniform (or was it amanda donahue with a huge strap on phallus?)

hooOOooleymama · 18/10/2006 12:26

Boxing Helena was truly terrible & I knew it would be terrible before I saw it but I figure to appreciate good films you should see a few really poor ones first..

cremolafoam · 18/10/2006 12:33

anything with kevincostner who can;t act

waterworld
that thing where he goes and lives with red indians
wyatt earp
robin hood
jfk
tincup
oh and gawd help us:
the bodyguard
thats at least 14 hours of my life i would like back

nebthenoob · 18/10/2006 12:36

Far and Away.
Boxing Helena (friends still use 'boxing' where the word cr*p is not strong enough...)
I know I'm in a minority, but Lord of the Rings. Dull, dull, dull.

bewilderbeast · 18/10/2006 13:04

Alexander - worst film ever
Castaway - spent the whole film praying that Tom Hanks would kill himself and just end my misery

scarysuejonez · 18/10/2006 13:06

vanilla Skies - just reminded of it by another thread.

scarysuejonez · 18/10/2006 13:07

Oh god yes The English Patient. If films are going to be po-faced crap why can't they make them SHORT po-faced crap?

hooOOooleymama · 18/10/2006 13:14

nebthenob - I've found someone else who bothered to see Boxing Helena- I think the premise (man obsesses about woman, chops off her arms & legs and keeps her in a box) might have put off a few people for some reason...loved the 'I'm not really sitting with my arms & legs stuck through holes in this box' quality of the acting.
A truly piss poor film.

hooOOooleymama · 18/10/2006 13:18

I'm not hijacking this thread but you really shouldn't miss
this

GRUMPYGHOUL · 18/10/2006 13:18

Ohh the Matrix what a pile of crap...Matrix 2 was even worse I really lost the will to live when DH watched that.

Any of the Star Wars films - all those furry squeaking creatures and stupid costumes.

Mariah Carey's Glitter (wasnt hyped) but the true hideousness of it needs to be seen to be believed.

Men in Black - Average film - not all we were led to believe

Mr & Mrs Smith - went on forever & only made bearable by the fact that it had Brad & Angelina in it.

Lord of the Rings & its sequel - what the hell was that all about couldnt follow it, I got all the beardy blokes mixed up "oh so is he a baddie then I thought he was a goodie" dh "no that's someone else" sod it I'll go & have a cup of tea. Jeez who wants to see all that water so soon after a Tsunami anyway.

caffeinequeen · 18/10/2006 13:42

My exboyfriend took me to the grand relaunch of the first/fourth Star Wars at the Odeon Leicester Square in 1997. He was worryingly excited about this - I feel asleep.
Seriouly - can't see the hype at all - people in silly capes fighting with striplights?!

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 18/10/2006 14:16

boxing helena is a top quality piece of cinematic genius......tho (apart from jennifer lynch) we must be the only folk who own it lol

hooOOooleymama · 18/10/2006 14:45

Yep- I also liked the 'oh it was all a dream' ending.

I had to recalibrate my crapometer after watching BH.
