Anyone doing this?
For those who don't know it's a challenge to write 50k words in a month. This year it starts on 1st November.

Is anyone doing it with a toddler and 4 year old, whilst trying to move house? Is this possible, or am I doomed? I'm signed up for a course, and did'nt think I was supposed to write a word till the first day (Thursday)....

Am very tempted to investigate the site, but don't dare - know it will take up valuable minutes I should/could be writing in, and as it is I'm hard pushed to find more than half an hour per day

Laugs · 31/10/2008 11:34

Nope, just a toddler and a wedding in December to plan! But I do work from home which might give me loads of skiving opportunities

Otterchocdog · 31/10/2008 21:46

OK, so now I'm wondering how this is going to work, when as it is I barely seem to manage to keep the house running and never have time for any housework. I guess at least I'll have a novel excuse. Novel. Boom Boom.

Just signed up now on the spur of the moment - no idea what I'll write about yet but hope it will be the kickstart I need. Reckon if I have time to lurk on here reading AIBU in the middle of the night then I should have time to write

Otterchocdog · 01/11/2008 11:20

Has anyone started yet? Are we going to post our daily wordcounts on here?

I haven't started yet, waiting for DS nap time

Saturn74 · 01/11/2008 11:30

342 words - just 342 words!
How can that be?
I was sure I had written enough to be at least half to the total.

Saturn74 · 01/11/2008 11:31

half way to the total.
I can't afford to miss out words - I need every single one I can get.

Oooh, a NaNo thread! I completed it in 2005 and 2006, but had a baby last August so didn't manage anything last year. Am thinking of trying this year but no plot/story/ideas really...might just drink a couple of bottles of wine and see what happens

ExtraFancy · 01/11/2008 11:41

I'm MsWilde on the forums, if anyone wants to be buddies

aikigypsy · 01/11/2008 12:54

I wrote about 500 words this morning. Not very impressed with myself.

DD's naps have been irregular and unpredictable the past few days, so I'm trying out a new plan of getting up an hour or two early and writing then. Since it usually takes me over an hour to get fully awake, I don't know if this is a good idea.

I'm writing a regency romance, Mills and Boone type thing. I'm trying not to spend too much time on-line, but will probably check in here occasionally.

Otterchocdog · 01/11/2008 14:31

900 words so far, just heard DS chirping on the baby monitor so will have finish tonight. More than 50% of quota though so I'm happy.

Not sure I'm happy with what I've written though, tone is all wrong. But, I read once in a book about creative writing "I'll take care of the quantity and you take care of the quality" (spoken to the muse/god/the universe)

Bumperlicious · 01/11/2008 14:46

I got woken up by mating or fighting cats outside this morning at 6.45 so I took the opportunity to bash out 1333 words and about to put DD down for a long nap so hopefully will have another hour or so. It's probably a load of crap though!

Saturn74 · 01/11/2008 17:33

Anyone managed to upload anything yet?
I can't get on the site - presume it is very busy.

Otterchocdog · 01/11/2008 17:58

1675 words. Woo hoo!.

Saturn74 · 01/11/2008 18:28

have you uploaded them, otterchocdog?

Otterchocdog · 01/11/2008 18:32

No, I'm also having problems accessing the site. Must be too many eager beaver writers uploading their stuff!

50,000.
1,667 per day, I think.
Thanks for link re scrambling.

Otterchocdog · 01/11/2008 19:47

OK am I being really dim here, have scrambled my text and about to paste it into the box, but it won't let me. My cursor won't even go into that box?

AnathemaDevice · 01/11/2008 19:54

I'm going to try again this year, managed it last year so I know I can do it if I set my mind to it. I'm the queen of procrastination, however, so I've not even started yet. Which is a bit of a bugger, as I was hoping to get at least 5000 words done this weekend. I'm Miss-R on the NaNo site, if anyone's interested.

Saturn74 · 01/11/2008 19:57

otterchoc - I had same problem.
The word count on the main page was showing 0 as well earlier.
Can't get on the site at all now.
Maybe they've disabled the upload function as site is too busy.
Or their servers have just fallen over and started sobbing.
