Coming Clean by Liz Fraser

RhinoRhino · 25/06/2023 12:13

A couple of threads that I had posted on relating to the Memoir ‘Coming Clean’ by Liz Fraser have been deleted from the MN site, apparently due to non-compliance of the MN guidelines from the posters. MN are obviously well within their rights to delete threads if they demonstrably fail to comply with their guidelines, nevertheless I feel strongly that MN posters are given a platform to critique this book, and also any other public ventures by this author. It would be neither fair nor right that posters are completely silenced in this particular matter.

As such, and in line with Mumsnet not seeing “anything wrong with honest feedback” I would like to make the comment that Coming Clean as a Memoir falls short due to the shaky and not entirely truthful narrative. There are certain facts contained within this memoir that are easily disprovable (for example, relating to the marital status of both author and her partner when they started their ill-fated affair), which leaves a massive question mark over the rest of the book. Is it entirely reasonable to make money from something that is promoted as truthful when it is, in fact, not entirely true?

I think there are people whose lives have been negatively impacted by the book and its subject matter, and I hope that MN will agree that these people should have a voice, as should anybody who wants to comment on a published piece of work.

As long as posters align their comments with the MN guidelines, this is a topic that people may wish to keep discussing, and also keep in the public domain. And if MN wants to provide a set of rules particular to this thread – certainly if they are arbitrary and differ from the general guidelines - I am sure it would be very helpful.

Mumsnet, please help us to help each other by keeping in the public domain something that us silenced mums feel should be out there.

@RhinoRhino and @Mortonswood 👏👏👏for excellent Liz 101 guide ! Quick screen grab it in case we get silenced again. Are you guys on TL yet?

The life limiting illness thing was also hinted at during her Another Life blog period, that time it was her heart. She was also very close to death during a breakdown after her husband threw her out- I think she was also doing media work during that period and would only revert to near death when at home.

Oh and also she is rather foul/ trollish/abusive to anyone who challenges her in the slightest way on SM- from not agreeing with her about Halloween, writing a BLT comment on her newspaper articles or asking about very effective/ special PTSD medication that she has promised to name etc. If you do this expect to be blocked; blocked and then challenged so you can't reply, but her twitter flying monkeys can comment or have your named changed,so you don't know she is calling you a c*nt.

She has also repeatedly asked followers to DM her personal stories about the system and DV etc. What for we don't know.

She also has photographs of her with Billie Jean King and Stephen Fry that she is not afraid to use, so beware as those images will be seared into visual cortex in no time.

I tried Tattle, but it was asking me to set up a specific TL email addressed and I couldn’t be assed! Will try again!

No join when tried to sign up to TL sadly. Said it was full (yesterday)

Raffington55 · 25/07/2023 13:07

@Beanchops She's obsessed with the Billy Jean King pic because she loves her stupid legs in it. How much more of that effing photo does the world have to see. She's so bloody narcissistic and vain.

Has everyone migrated to Tattle? I've got Tattle access as joined yonks ago but prefer our Mumsnet group! I'd rather stay here.

Raffington55 · 25/07/2023 18:19

Omg. Just had a look on Tattle and Liz is on This Morning God knows when) DEFENDING wolf whistlers - there is a woman on the show saying how degrading it is and how it's harassment (agreed) and Liz - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ABUSE EXPERT is telling her she is talking nonsense and she shouldn't WASTE POLICE TIME. I'm speechless. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

This was another of her all time lows. She basically told women to get a grip and enjoy the male attention. Then she is loud and proud about ‘revealing’ she cycled to the station and I then presume on to London on the train, without knickers on. What a hoot. Do as you please, everyone, just don’t feel the need to share. This raises the question are you without knickers for you or for the lads?

Raffington55 · 25/07/2023 18:29

But she's so condescending to the other girl who does not wish to endure wolf whistling. It's horrible. She's vile.

I am shadow banned
so if I post a link it doesn’t get published

there is also a video where she defends a bottom being touched….

you can find the link to that this morning video in the tattle thread

Raffington55 · 25/07/2023 22:09

Insufferable, ridiculous woman.

RhinoRhino · 25/07/2023 22:44

@Raffington55 @Mortonswood @Beanchops There’s so much to remember, isn’t there?

The homeless one is a funny one. I don’t even remember Ms Fraser claiming she was homeless (was it in the book?) but I definitely remember the part in Coming Clean where she claims Mike was. Thing is, after he left his marital home to be with Liz he never had a place to call his own. By all accounts he lived rent free in Ms Fraser’s apartment in Venice and subsequently in the Oxford house. It doesn’t appear either of her two properties were jointly owned. So it’s bizarre to expect readers of the book to believe she was so madly in love with Mike and that he was the one true love of her life when she made absolutely damned sure he had no claim whatsoever on any of her (substantial) assets, and no rights to reside in either of her properties unless she expressly allowed it. What’s mine is mine, and all that. She may have talked the talk on love but did she walk the walk?

Point is if Mike was without a ‘home’ for any period of time during (or following the end of) their relationship it was ultimately down to her - because he had been chucked out of ‘her’ not ‘their’ property. He was only ever able to stay in them on Ms Fraser’s whim. He had pretty much zero power in the relationship once she had safely got him to Venice (if he ever had any to begin with). No wonder he went a bit crazy. Imagine having no home, no job, no friends, a serious drink problem and an extremely controlling, demanding and apparently emotionally unstable partner. And a baby. In a small apartment in a hot city full of mosquitoes. Nightmare!

And the life limiting illness thing. As @Beanchops says, this has bubbled up a few times over the years, only to be forgotten again for whatever reason. Such a disturbing thing to do – to indicate to the world and his dog that you have some life-limiting illness one day, then simply never refer to it again. Until the next time it suits some unspecified agenda. Not normal. Not in any way, shape or form.

Haven’t yet moved to Tattle. Was given a code, made an attempt, but failed at the verification stage due to incompetence on my part. I am now in the no-man’s land of being registered but not verified. I do have a good read and a snigger or two at all the posts. I’m missing @EricaLaing, though. Do we need to start worrying about cellars, bananas, and 36 hours in the back of a van packed full of Ikea furniture? Or can anybody vouch for her well-being?

I'm doing both!

I want to too but despite most recent message on tattle it’s not letting me register. Still saying at capacity (I’ve tried loads)

RhinoRhino · 25/07/2023 22:53

Why is Tattle at capacity? What does that even mean? Is it just an admin thing?

OP posts:
Windercar · 25/07/2023 22:57

I keep seeing threads on this. Who is she?!

RhinoRhino · 26/07/2023 06:50

@Windercar Somebody who vomits into the public domain her version of her personal life in a very chaotic and self-serving manner. Through books about herself, magazine articles about herself and multiple daily social-media posts about herself. Multiple posed selfies posted every single day. The only details she spares are the salient ones.

She seems to have a very short attention span, so it is very easy for the MN cleaning ladies to spot inconsistencies in the narrative. Tbh, the only consistent thread through the narrative is "MEEEEEE". Other than that, it is all over the place. And has been for years.

If the subject in hand not your bag, feel free to ignore the thread.

OP posts:
SplatPancake · 26/07/2023 08:10

And @Windercar adding to what @RhinoRhino says, the other important thing to note, along with the whole “unreliable narrator” thing, 2xproperty owning (Oxford & Venice), multimillionaire parents, ongoing income from royalties etc, she has claimed in the past year to be struggling to heat her house etc and has begged for money online, through “buy me a coffee” type things, right through to taking money off people, including some of our own posters here, for a substack subscription which was never honoured (even though it promised a write up of the cure she’d found for C-PTSD 🙄), and setting up a publishing company, which has seemingly foundered.

Money donated for, seemingly, I think maybe 2 substack posts, setting up a business on companies house (and therein lies a tale of “calling troll”🤣) and …. several holidays. And incessant insufferable social media posting, with no boundaries for herself or others.

And threads from people who had been duped by her, asking about her shadiness, have been routinely deleted on this site- she’s either litigious or has friends here. (There is a court case involving her which we can’t post about as breach of law, fair enough, and occasionally snippets do fall out, but instead of deleting offending posts whole threads vanish then restart, which is why you’ll seem to see lots of threads (and not be able to find things 🤣)

So yeah, she’s insufferable, but absolutely fascinating (in a “how is she getting away with this???” way) when not boring the knickers off you with her 30 posts a day on “what I did on my holidays” 🙄

Physicsrevision · 26/07/2023 10:33

The National Centre for Domestic Violence’s ambassador, as always, remains silent with no comment.

The horrors endured by this girl in life and in death are just unbearable to think about. Justice for Amber Gibson demands that society reflects on the harmful actions of men against girls, the failure of the system to protect the vulnerable and the essential measures to safeguard childhood.

The lack of in-depth analysis on these matters is alarming. This is what ambassadors need to be fighting for. It’s distressing to consider that this poor girl was taken from a violent home into care, only to be abused by her brother, raped by another, assaulted and ultimately murdered by her sibling and then, violated by a stranger.

Unsurprisingly, not one word has been heard from the women’s unsilencer. Why? Because it’s not about her.

I’ve not ventured beyond our group. I’ve no interest in gossiping per ce. This is more personal as a survivor of domestic violence and a one time financial investor in the “words” of this story teller.

Yes, I joined ages ago and did not need a code either? Same question

I love the way Liz is on her writer's retreat and talks of 'we writers' 🤣🤣🤣 She's a dreadful writer. I would not call her a writer at all.

Shortbread49 · 26/07/2023 20:39

Has she not just been on a writing trip to Denmark ? I am not a writer but she wrote the text for Venice Caffe Florian website even I can spot the typos

Roomonthedustpan · 26/07/2023 22:26

It’s been said before - she’s unable to stay at home 🤨
