Anyone doing NaNoWriMo 2020?

OrangeCinnamon1 · 28/09/2020 20:21

I have a novel outline (romantic) and am just filling out bits and bobs...character development etc. I should be extremely well prepped for November so considering giving it a go. Anyone else ? Hoping for a realistic 900 words plus a day.

Don't see any reason why not? You'll just have to write quicker!

WriteThisWay · 08/11/2020 00:13

@Skysea

Can you start NaNoWriMo after the beginning of November?
Yes, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to register for it on the NaNoWriMo website. Smile

Thanks for the welcome Witchend!

I only decided to join this evening and due to prior plans, was only able to write after 11:30pm. Still I managed 416 words in half an hour and have planned to spend a good portion of tomorrow writing. I have a lot of my novel plotted which helps. I will make 50,000 in 23 days, dammit Grin.

How is everyone doing? I’ve hit 14k words so a bit behind.

ChristopherLillicrap · 11/11/2020 21:58

I'm plodding along with 11k words. I've written every day but not as much as I need to.

I find that the weekends are easier for me. I'm at home and have more spare time.

Did you sign up, Skysea?

How is everyone?

Cherrypi · 11/11/2020 22:11

Back on track today after falling a little bit behind yesterday.

Madhairday · 11/11/2020 22:58

I'm on 26k words and loving it! How do all of you resist the temptation to edit along the way?

LimeLemonOrange · 11/11/2020 23:15

I got derailed by new job plus my teen (who's ignored me for years) suddenly wanting to watch films with me in the evenings (which is lovely).

Now I've fallen behind I'm finding it difficult to find the time and motivation to start again. Plus I got a bit stuck with my story.

Lemming20 · 12/11/2020 01:07

That’s so lovely @LimeLemonOrange!
Would it help to tell us a bit about your story?

Artemis9377 · 12/11/2020 21:45

One needs to turn off the internal editor and focus on getting words on paper. Editing is part of the process but it should come after the story is written. At least that's how I feel about it Smile
Madhairday · 12/11/2020 22:42

Definitely, @Artemis9377. The only problem is, my inner editor is rebelling at my attempts to switch it off and staging a coup. It's most irksome. I keep batting it back down but it keeps popping up again like that daft game with the mole and the hammer. Still, I'm enjoying it very much. Up to 30k today :)

Artemis9377 · 12/11/2020 22:56

@Madhairday that is awesome! Have faith and don't be too hard on yourself. I'm sure you'll make it SmileSmile

LimeLemonOrange · 12/11/2020 23:12

@Lemming20 I've just had a good evening working on it - not building up word count unfortunately, but stopping to develop some of the minor characters and do some planning. I think that's what I needed to do having got stuck.

Well done to anyone doing any NaNo writing!

Witchend · 13/11/2020 09:43

I'm up to 30k now.
What I do is save it on the cloud, then read it over in the evenings, and just look out for minor corrections. So where you've written "juts" rather than "just" or confused two characters.
I don't do any other editing until Nano's over.

I don't enjoy editing though, so I find bigger editing bits easy to ignore. Grin

Lemming20 · 13/11/2020 10:01

Sounds like everyone is doing really well! I’ve got the bones of my story down but struggling to flesh it out now. Also forgot to say, I am not an experienced writer but i read crime thrillers almost constantly so if anyone wants an alpha or whatever the term is then happy to help Smile

Witchend · 16/11/2020 21:33

How are people going now? Halfway through!

Lemming20 · 16/11/2020 21:57

I’m at 24k and stuck :(

Cherrypi · 17/11/2020 08:39

I'm at 26k but yes finding it hard now.

Mama1980 · 17/11/2020 21:22

33k and am on a roll. I'm finding it so much easier to just do a bit everyday, makes it seem more manageable. I never in a million years thought I'd reach 50k but now I think I just might......

Madhairday · 17/11/2020 22:39

Well done everyone. I'm enjoying it, I've somehow got to 45k today. I do write quickly though that means more editing in the end, but it's fun while it lasts. I'm going for around 90k so just about half way through now.

Witchend · 17/11/2020 22:53

Well done! I'm nearly there, but not quite. I'm aiming for 50k (children's story) but think it'll be a little above that. I don't think I'd manage 90k!

SexNamesRFab · 25/11/2020 19:45

Hello, Lurker who's finally remembered herr password here - I'm almost at 20k words, struggling with my inner editor and also skipping around too much. This will be the third novel I've written (not published) and I've developed a system where I create headings for every chapter then write them all at once (building up notes). I think of it as layering, like turning a sketch into a finished painting. It worked really well last time but right now I'm dithering rather than getting stuck in.

elfycat · 28/11/2020 12:16

Last few days now!

I'm glad I got a head start because I just had a seasonal item I sell become popular and I had to make them up for 2 weeks.

I'm on par to win the 50k. I could probably do it today if I sat down and worked at it, but I'll probably be restocking on Etsy most of the afternoon.

Witchend · 28/11/2020 12:43

Welcome @SexNamesRFab
Good luck with finishing.

I finished a few days ago. I've been quite lucky this year in I've been half furloughed through November which has given me plenty of writing time. Although the MC did get stuck in camp for about 20k extra words as it took longer than I expected to get them out.

@elfycat Keep going! Three more days. You can do it!

FlamedToACrisp · 30/11/2020 21:32

Phew! Just reached the 50K in time!

elfycat · 30/11/2020 22:20

Yay Flamed another person working to deadlines.

Finished. It was only 1500 words to do today so not too bad. Not my latest finish (2330 in 2010... my excuse? I had a 6 day old...)

I couldn't let myself down as my 'streak' is 17 years now :)
