Who is in?

I have my novel planned out, the whole thing is in my head, I just need to get it down. I have so many other WIP, I need to really work at this novel. I have no excuse other than my own self sabotage Sad

How much does everyone aim to write per day? I'm thinking 2000 words. Gulp.

I'm handwriting this year Cathy so that puts a stop to any editing urges I might have. I also know if will rewrite the whole thing when I type it up after nano so sort of just squirrel the thought away for future

cathyandclare · 06/11/2018 18:33

I've managed to resist my inner editor and get to 11100 today, so 900 to do tomorrow to reach my target for week one. Wish I could handwrite Bigly, I have done sections but then struggle to decipher my writing! I'm glad public exams are long behind me!

CoodleMoodle · 06/11/2018 21:49

Despite the 4 month sleep regression completely kicking my backside, it's going okay here! Hit 10138 today. Always feels good crossing that 10k barrier!

cathyandclare · 07/11/2018 17:45

Well done all the 10K plus-ers. I hit my 12k one week target. Hoping for the same (with better flow and more plot progression) next week.

purplefig · 08/11/2018 14:33

Well done your efforts so far everyone! How're you all finding it?

I'm working on a novel I've had in the back of my mind for 6 years. But I'm a terrible on-the-go editor and constantly censor myself and get nothing done. It's LIBERATING to just write!

Witchend · 08/11/2018 16:01

If you're handwriting, do you type it up for the verification? I don't think I'd ever get round to it.

Purplefig I'm the opposite. I much prefer the initial writing, hate editing and can always find more to write to avoid it.

cathyandclare · 08/11/2018 17:22

Slow going today, gave into my inner editor and I'm not sure anything's better for it, I just feel more uncertain. I managed to edge over 13,000 but will need to do some extra words tomorrow to keep on target.

BiglyBadgers · 08/11/2018 20:44

witchend I had a look through the rules thread on the nano site and if you hand write you can use dummy text in the verification thingy to get your official completion thingy, so that is what I will do. When I type it up I will do so as first edit and completely rewrite it all I imagine so certainly won't have time to do that as part of nano.

I hit 17k today, which I am pretty pleased with. Hoping to cross 20k over the next couple of days.

Keep it up guys!

cathyandclare · 09/11/2018 07:39

17K is great. I've just read Andy's pep talk, I'm not great with all the NaNo emails, they mostly lurk unread in my inbox-but I thought this one was really useful. All the stuff about writing being a slog and a job of work really resonated.

I'd read about people loving getting the chance to disappear for a while and just write, and imagined everyone else pouring out words with gay abandon. Whereas, for me, it's not something that feels natural or easy, so it was reassuring to hear that, at least for some writers, that's normal.

directsunlight · 09/11/2018 10:06

So behind. Hoping to catch up when I have a child free day next week. Until then, I'll be chipping away slowly, writing by hand.

Witchend · 09/11/2018 11:53

Thanks Bigly that explains it.

Hellomatey001 · 09/11/2018 19:49

Behind Behind! Just 1200! Need to knuckle down!

cathyandclare · 10/11/2018 16:04

Still a bit behind but over 2000 words today and nearly 17000 overall.

I'm making notes of the changes I want to make in the next edit, instead of just doing them and moving backwards. I think by the end of tomorrow I'll be moving continents and into the main part of the story, so hoping that'll give me some impetus.

BiglyBadgers · 10/11/2018 17:43

Phew. Managed to hit the 20k mark today just about. Not really feeling it today. A bit tired and think I have a cold coming on.

CoodleMoodle · 10/11/2018 22:06

Just over 17k here. I'm trying to keep ahead of myself this week, as I've potentially got guests coming to stay next weekend and probably won't get a chance to do any then. My aim is to hit 28k on Friday, which I should be able to do, just about!

(The other day I took my laptop into the kitchen and sat DS in his bouncy chair in front of the washing machine - wrote 700 words like that! Hey, if it works...)

CoodleMoodle · 10/11/2018 22:15

But even if I do fall behind, then I have to remind myself that I WILL catch up.

Back in 2013 I decided to write 75k for a Camp NaNo. I got lazy in the last week, and ended up having to write between 6000 and 7000 words per day, for three days in a row! That was pre-DC, but it damn near killed me and I vowed never to get that far behind again unless it was unavoidable... I was very proud of myself when I finished it though.

directsunlight · 11/11/2018 21:52

I'm not going to hit the word count, but I'm writing nearly every day which is better than I was before, so that's fine with me. I'm very impressed with your determination and creativity, Coodle!

QuestionableMouse · 13/11/2018 00:21

I started then caught some god awful bug. Have a bit of catching up to do but it's my 12th year so I'm not too worried.

CoodleMoodle · 15/11/2018 22:23

We're at the halfway point! How is everyone doing? I hit 25k today, so slightly less than where I want to be but nearly there.

Thanks direct! It's one of the few things I've actually stuck at over the years. Can be a slog at times but there's nothing like the pride of writing the last words!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/11/2018 13:16

Just popped in to say hi.
I am doing it but unlikely to finish - I'm on about 12k having had a godawful couple of weeks with child illness and SN child meltdowns, dh going away, painters, plumbers, boiler breaking....

Still, you never know, eh? And if I do 25k total that will be 25k better than nothing.

Witchend · 16/11/2018 15:34

Hi Countess, 25k with that lot going sounds great. I can't write with cold fingers so boiler going would definitely stop me quickly.

I've hit 30k and I'm hoping to get more done today as Friday's my day off.
