Who is in?

I have my novel planned out, the whole thing is in my head, I just need to get it down. I have so many other WIP, I need to really work at this novel. I have no excuse other than my own self sabotage Sad

How much does everyone aim to write per day? I'm thinking 2000 words. Gulp.

It's tomorrow!!!! Shock

I'm doing longhand this year, which is probably a terrible idea, but there you go. Usually I just use Google docs on my tablet. I've tried all the fancy writing apps and stuff going and they are always just a bit unnecessarily fancy pants. That's just me though.

darkriver198868 · 31/10/2018 13:05

Using my trusty Pc and open office.

BlueberrySea · 31/10/2018 20:01

Hi all,

I'm in for tomorrow. I've half planned, half pantsing...

It's my first attempt at Nano. Wondering what I've let myself in for...

Hellomatey001 · 31/10/2018 21:05

Thanks for the device suggestions!

Good luck authoreenos!

darkriver198868 · 01/11/2018 06:08

Well it's here! I am going to start at 8 am.

idlenook · 01/11/2018 06:30

Good luck everyone! And greetings, darkriver and BlueberrySea

I'll be trying to get my first batch of words out whenever 21 month old DD goes down for her nap! Not that I've already been trying to keep her occupied with Hey Duggee while I have a sneaky scribble or anything...

KiteMarked · 01/11/2018 07:40

I am IN.

I have been working on this novel for a few months now, and I have it completely mapped out. I have every scene planned, I have character bibles (ish), I have such a clear idea of the story it's like a movie in my head. I've written a few scenes but haven't been disciplined enough to write consistently.

I need to get cracking on this!

BiglyBadgers · 01/11/2018 11:27

Happy nano day, everyone! I'm sitting in a cafe with a nano bud I made last year getting started. I'm almost around 1500 words now and doing pretty well I think.

How's everyone else doing?

CoodleMoodle · 01/11/2018 11:47

This will be my 22nd NaNo, I think! That's including the Camp NaNo challenge that are on twice a year. Sometimes I don't have an idea until I actually get started, which I find a lot harder. Got a plan this time!

I tend to dread it, then be excited to start, then enjoy it for a couple of weeks, then get stressed until the final two days where I have a sudden burst of creativity and don't want to stop! I love it, though. Might be interesting this year as I have DS (4months). Managed it when DD was a couple of months in 2014 but it was hard.

Good luck all!

cathyandclare · 01/11/2018 14:28

22! That's amazing, each with a new novel or have you edited and done redrafted?

I've done over 2000 today, constantly fighting the urge to go back over what I've written. It's a thriller (well it's meant to be a thriller) and I'm stressing about timelines and character ages but I think I just need to get into the flow and take it from there.

BiglyBadgers · 01/11/2018 14:56

Wow! 22 really is impressive. This is only my second.

I've done just over 3k today and my wrist is aching so time for a rest I think. I might do a bit more later this evening.

Witchend · 01/11/2018 16:33

I saw this and though "oh no! it's today."

I am organised.

Okay, maybe not!

CoodleMoodle · 01/11/2018 17:27

Most of them are individual stories. Some are a continuation or "Part 2/3", but I think there was only one that I didn't finish in 50000 words and so carried on with another time. Several challenges later, IIRC! I do original fiction and fan fiction, enjoy one more than the other Wink

I'm a horrible procrastinator but NaNo seems to be the one thing I can sit down and get done, no matter how painful it can be at times! We won't talk about the quality, but I only write for my own enjoyment/the challenge of writing.

cathyandclare · 01/11/2018 17:55

I applaud you for completing, that's my sole aim. I just want to get the words down. I've updated my word count on the site for the first time and planned where I want the story to go tomorrow.

I'm not sure I enjoy it exactly, I'm to stressy for that- but I will enjoy the achievement of 'winning' the challenge.

cathyandclare · 01/11/2018 17:56

^ oops, too stressy

TheHatOfDoom · 01/11/2018 19:03

Can I join? I’ve written just over 1000 words (long hand) today, was hoping for more but no time.

BiglyBadgers · 01/11/2018 19:10

Yes! Join us hatofdoom. Join us!

My main character is about to find an important clue, but I have no idea what it is. None at all. It crosses my mind that this is the sort of thing people put in plans. Did I ever mention I'm not very good at planning

Witchend · 01/11/2018 19:52

Bigly Congratulations for having a plan... it's a good start Grin

I have vague thoughts mostly in my head.

spookyspookyspookhole · 01/11/2018 20:26

I've managed 1000 words just! And I mean just now

As for a clue, I think we can plan but details like that definitely change and the clue will come to you when you're least expecting it, so have your phone ready for notes!

CoodleMoodle · 01/11/2018 20:42

Well done to everyone who's started! DS has decided he's not going to bed tonight so I'm slightly stressed... never missed the first day before. Haven't had a chance to get on all day as DD has been home sick from school. It's going to be a long month!

Nuffaluff · 01/11/2018 21:58

Fuck it! Have failed on the first day.
I had to do my assignment for my creative writing class and I couldn’t spin it round to my novel because it was based on a myth.
Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed writing, I’m pleased with it and at least I wrote.
Still only going for a thousand words a day or it will be awful. 1000 words tomorrow here I come.

Witchend · 01/11/2018 22:44

I've just had a productive couple of hours.
One chapter done, and first scene of the script. Just over 3000 words, if I count the songs. Do you think that's cheating? (answer is probably yes!)

BiglyBadgers · 02/11/2018 07:20

I finished up yesterday at just over 4k and sorted my clue issue out in a way I'm pretty happy with.

Hoping to get a bit done this morning and then I'm going to a write in with actual real live nano people this evening so that should be exciting.

KiteMarked · 02/11/2018 07:27

Definitely not cheating, Witch. :)

I managed about 1300 last night, with a lot of distractions along the way. That was the scene finished, though, so I'm happy with the word count and a tick of my long list of about 83 scenes to write. One down!

Annandale · 02/11/2018 07:29

1560 yesterday. It's not really a novel... but it's writing. I'll see what happens. (Not a planner...)
