8 teenagers in one car that crashed

So they were driving the wrong way on a motorway and crashed in to a single driver. At 5.30am. Apparently the car was stolen. I'm seeing photos on tiktok and they look to be very young.

Where the hell are the parents in this?! I'm seeing tiktoks where the families of these 8 boys are asking for prayers, etc. I wonder if they feel any shame at all?! Or is that an emotion they are unfamiliar with.

I think these parents need to be held accountable in some way... My sympathy lies entirely with the driver of the other car.

Statements like this only serve to enrage the general population. A total own goal. And typical of the victim mentality of Pavee Point.

Funerals are to be monitored by special forces within the Garda. I mean honestly, in what country would you need armed gardai to watch over a solemn occasion like a funeral for fear of further mayhem.

It's incredible what is happening and what people seem to expect from such people.

Enda Kenny needs to apologise to the nation for his introduction of special status for Travellers. From that day on they and Pavee Point have capitalised on this and with impunity call everyone objecting to their lawlessness "racist". They are (I'm dubious) an ethnic group, not a race. But who is going to be brave enough to tell them that!

Sorry but travellers got status as an ethnic group because they were found to be a distinct ethnic group to settled Irish people. I can’t see anything wrong with what Pavee Point said. The fact is that there has been a lot of hate targeting the entire travellers community. Which is unfair: this wasn’t even an incident that was solely traveller lead. You can criticise the boys actions without condemning the entire community.

Travellers targeted online after M9 crash - Pavee Point

Pavee Point has said that a significant number of people on social media have targeted Travellers for abuse following the M9 crash in Co Kildare.

Jobs @Paul2023
God bless your innocence.
They won’t want jobs like you or I.

But you bring up your kids to not be obnoxious, law breaking twats?
I mean yes absolutely they push boundaries but surely they have some idea of things that potentially could kill other people?

Pavee Point have come out and condemned the group involved in the M9 crash in the strongest terms. They also said that breaking laws, terrorising communities and not contributing to society goes against everything their organisation and the traveller group stand for

No wait they didn't, they just said that current commentary is about:blank racist. LOL

I really believed the first part of your post!!

Pavee Point are working against the travellers imo as is the Travelling Communities direct route to social welfare and the general low expectations of government and society.

Just saw on the bbc news that there are multiple people killed in UK after a police pursuit of a suspicious vehicle. It is so difficult to know what the best option is in these scenarios. There's huge risk either way. They've not confirmed who has died but scary to think it may be one of the police officers.

Recognising Travellers as a distinct ethnic group has been a terrible blunder. The distinction is quite lost on most Travellers who are proud to be Irish. Indeed many say they are ' the real Irish'. Traveller Cant or Shelta is full of Irish words.

But this is why Identity Politics are so poisonous. And such a double edged sword. The same people who keep harping on about some minor changes to DNA brought about by relative isolation will be telling us that it is economic and environmental factors that cause most problems within the Traveller community. I agree wholeheartedly.

It would be quite wrong to condemn people because of their ancestry - as if criminal behaviour is ' bred in the bone'. So why use it to justify special pleading or double standards? It all sounds very regressive to me anyway. Like some throwback to the 1930s. Which didn't end very well.

MarieDeGournay · 22/08/2026 13:21

The impression I'm getting here is that you can point to one aspect of the young men who caused the fatal crash, i.e. that some of them were Travellers, and say all-sorts of negative thigs about that community, no holds barred.

But if you point out another aspect: that they were all young men, you get accused of demonising all men - not very consistent, is it?

There was a discussion on Prime Time about what to do about this kind of lethal dangerous driving, which was all about 'young people'.
One speaker forgot and referred to 'young lads' but he was quickly back on script about 'young people'.

The perpetrators of all these lethal or dangerous driving stunts are not young women, they are boys, young men. There's something about dicing with death - innocent people's as well as their own - that young men find attractive. Not young women, young men.
They are from various parts of the country, various communities, but they have two things in common: they are young, and they are male.

The fact that it is boys and young men doing this has to be factored into to any effort to stop it, this 'wokeness' about 'not demonising men' isn't doing boys any favours, is it?

Fromhere1 · 22/08/2026 13:38

I think that is a very interesting point....I simply could not imagine a group of girls doing something as reckless.

It is interesting that it was a mix in the car...I think three Travellers, one Polish and one other? I could be wrong but it's roughly that...I know this dangerous driving is a huge problem in very disadvantaged areas too.

I was listening to the radio one day and heard an interesting discussion around young men growing up without strong role models and without any guidance. That they can look to groups/gangs of peers for validation....the likes, shares, etc on social media.

I've only seen snippets of the funerals in the last few days - apparently the Travellers (in particular) come together to afford these very expensive looking funerals.... I wish they would come together and use the current momentum to come up with strategies to help their young men. (On a side note...is anyone else concerned that a coffin could fall based on the way they are being handled in these processions - they are heavy?!)

Yes, at a funeral I attended recently the pall bearers were so badly matched I expected the coffin to hit the ground.

Fromhere1 · 22/08/2026 14:05

One guy was drinking beer while holding the coffin (the gold one recently?). Plus all the phones out filming it...it just seems .disrespectful. But I suppose different strokes for different folks.

In England - two police officers amongst seven dead in wrong way crash- it will be the same.

This will not be the first offence, this is not a mistake where they drove the wrong way- this is a deliberate act- and there will be a hundred chances to have stopped them.

We have to be tougher on low level crime, because if we are not then it escalates.

Fromhere1 · 22/08/2026 14:21

Carriemac · 19/08/2026 08:36

Actually that’s their job - to protect the public so if they are safely trained and supported by their management then of course they should do it .

Two Police Officers dead today in the UK... details not established yet but they were involved in the pursuit of a car driving the wrong way on a motorway.

There is no truly safe way of stopping one of these recklessly driven cars. And 'supported by their management' sounds good in theory but that is not the reality on the ground.

What on earth are you talking about? I’m not sure you know

Having ethnic group status means that the state recognised that travellers have their own distinct history, language and culture. A heritage worth protecting- instead of trying to assimilate travellers into the settled population which had been the previous policy. It doesn’t make them any less Irish. They are “a people within a people”. The move was overwhelmingly celebrated by the travelling community.

Recognising that groups have a distinct Hertitage isn’t identity politics!

Cannesdo · 22/08/2026 16:12

Despite all the likes the Polish guy got on his TikTok no doubt, I read a newspaper report that only 30 people turned up for his “removal”.

BBC Live Reporting: The police car involved in the crash was not part of the pursuit, it was just in the area, the BBC understands. The pursuit had been abandoned before the crash, according to a police source.

All those who died have been identified but the names of the people in the other car have not been released.

The Chief Constable 'strongly urges' people to avoid speculation while the investigation is ongoing.

Sorry about that, its just thats what we'd like Pavee to say but they never do. Pavee point and a lot of teavellers seem to focus on rights and needs and any hint of neglect or discrimination and but weirdly believe they can do no wrong or owe anything to society. Pavee point is the same as a lot ofthe NGOs in that they get a lot if money to point out what's owed to that community but never call out that ethnicity doesn't make criminality ok.

I saw a discussion that CAB should target their wealth and must say I agree given what we see at funerals and headstones in graveyards.

Cannesdo · 22/08/2026 17:58

With Rights come Responsibilities.
PP missed that memo.

ParsleySageToiletDuckAndBinBags · 22/08/2026 19:36

Does anybody know what their actual plan is, when deliberately racing down the motorway in the wrong direction?

It's patently obvious that, before long, they're going to encounter somebody driving along the correct way - and at a combined effective double speed. Are they hoping to force the other people to swerve to avoid them (if even possible); for themselves to swerve at the last minute to avoid the innocent travellers; or is their intention actually that somebody will die, suffer severe lifelong injuries and/or disabilities?

Bearing in mind that the innocent traveller could well be driving an enormous lorry - especially in the early hours of the morning - meaning that they will surely be the ones to die, if not the occupants of both vehicles?

What other outcome could there possibly be? How can they ever think the thrill can be worth that price? Why not just go on a roller coaster for the same buzz, but safely?

Gealach · 22/08/2026 19:42

I’m honestly baffled what Pavee point have done wrong here: there statement looks balanced to me, I’ve coped it below. of course all travellers shouldn’t be targeted with abuse.

Following the tragedy that took place on the M9 in Co Kildare on Sunday morning, Pavee Point wishes to extend our deepest sympathies to all those involved, to their families, their friends and the wider community.

We extend our prayers and thoughts to those who lost their lives and to those who are in hospital with very serious injuries from this senseless tragedy. Our thoughts are also with the first responders who bravely responded to the scene.

The devastation of Sunday, and other tragedies on Irish roads, urges us all to be more responsible.

We are very concerned about the lack of proactive responses from social media platforms in monitoring harmful content which, in this instance, only glorifies harmful behaviour.

We are equally concerned about social media commentary focusing on ethnicity which only serves to stoke vile anti-Traveller racism.

The only "logical" answer is can think of is that in their heads everything is someone else's problem so they hurtle on down a motorway getting their likes safe in the knowledge that its other road users job to get out of the way. The other side is that they are always the victim, as can be seen from this week, so if it goes horribly wrong it wasn't their fault and everyone is being racist and mean.

The brendan o connor interview was interesting in that she had to give her victim impact statement in a packed court room with the death driver staring at her but 3 years later her life is destroyed but there was no apology and no sympathy.

Fromhere1 · 22/08/2026 19:48

I think these guys are living in the moment....not thinking beyond the next 'laugh'. I think they are acting in a completely egocentric way - literally not giving anyone but themselves a single thought. Very, very hard to get through to people like that.

I've seen snippets of the funerals - clearly they had families who loved them. I wonder, given everything that has happened, will these families parent any younger siblings differently? Will they talk to them? Listen to them? Impose limits and boundaries? Monitor phone usage? Insist on curfews and have consequences when rules are not followed? Teach them about treating others with respect? Show them how to apologise and take accountability for one's own behaviour? Inspire them to see a real future for themselves?

OP posts:
Gealach · 22/08/2026 19:49

@MarieDeGournay I agree with some aspects of what you are saying. They were all young men. They were also largely disadvantaged young men with one being in the care of the state, three being travellers….

i think it’s easy to see that generally we have an issue with disadvantaged young men doing reckless, violent , angry things. I think you can point that out and hope that we tackle this issue without pointing the finger at all young men or even all disadvantaged young men - the majority of which will never commit a violent act.
