in this vein my next name will be TheBoolahBus 🚌

Very good!
There's a company that makes TV programmes called 'Shinawil'
And I saw a house called 'Fay Yerra'😃
But I think Jane Jeffer winsšŸŽ‰

Abhannmor · 24/10/2025 16:32

So the consensus seems to be that the awful weather keeps young people away from the polling booths and some dodgy old bloke wins by default.

How very Irish.

JaneJeffer · 24/10/2025 16:35

I get the feeling a bloke isn’t going to win @Abhannmor

Beautiful day here in North County Dublin! My favourite kind of weather; crisp, slight chill in the air, but dry and sunny.

VaddaABeetch · 24/10/2025 17:47

Spiked my vote in nearly 40 years of voting.

I believe the whole process was rigged. I don’t want either of those 2 numpties.

Do you think Fianna FƔil didn't want to win? Therefore they selected a candidate they knew would have to quit , being a greedy landlord who over charged his tenant.. Not a great look even for them I guess.
Fine Gael didn't fancy it either it seems. Their second choice nomination being a bit of a clunker.
Not sure of Sinn FƩin's motivation for wanting to lose but perhaps you can furnish it.
And so this ghastly woman was foisted upon us by the world government / great reset / Bilderberg something. (S)
God be with the days of yore. When Presidents were nominated by FFFG. Or simply ran with no opposition. Not so long ago really.

Really? All the polls I've heard today seem to say CC by a fair margin

I think you're right there! But it seems to be the hope of many here that a bloke does win. Well in fairness, at least he knows he is a bloke. It could be so much worse.

DeanElderberry · 25/10/2025 07:05

I don't want the bloke to win, but I would have loved the bloke to prevent either of the other other pair from winning.

Onehorsetown · 25/10/2025 07:26

I spoiled my vote in the end. I don't see it as a waste of a vote. I don't like either candidate and I don't like the government or the parties in Opposition. One of them will get in, but it's 2 sides of the same coin.

MarieDeGournay · 25/10/2025 09:32

Supposing Gavin gets the most votes. He says 'The People Have Spoken. I withdrew because of the money thing. The People have obviously forgiven me for my misdemeanour - look, they voted for me! Vox populi, vox dei. I must respond to the will of the people as expressed through the ballot box.
Now gimme the keys to the Áras thanks very much' 😁

He'd be as good as HH or CC. He'd go around shaking hands and making bland speeches and encouraging communities and that sort of thing - and that's what the Presidency is mostly about.

It's probably not going to happen, but anything's possible in this election!!

TaTuirseOrm · 25/10/2025 09:37

Listening to RTƉ Radio 1 live from Dublin count centre at the moment, CC is storming ahead.
One commenter said she had 68% of 1st preference votes in one of the boxes opened.
They expect to call it by midday.

VaddaABeetch · 25/10/2025 13:05

Interesting to see how many votes have been spoiled

TomBaileysFlyingGoggles · 25/10/2025 13:31

I can no longer claim to never vote FG. I voted for HH not because I want her as President but because I know she won't win. My version of protest vote, I couldn't spoil it. I've never felt more isolated politically. it's even worse than the last elections. I got canvassed once by CC supporters at my mothers house, they couldn't answer any of my questions on sex, GRA, OTB, CC's inability to answer directly is reflected in her supporters. Neither crowd came to my home address, I had very little paper through the door too.

Joolsin · 25/10/2025 13:49

eggandonion · 23/10/2025 23:13

I have never voted for a winning president. I don't think I have ever given my number one to anyone who has goot elected.
Who should I vote for?šŸ™„

Me neither. I'm starting to think I'm the kiss of death to presidential candidates. And, of course, a maverick who doesn't follow the herd!!! šŸ˜‚ I voted HH because she knows what a woman is and gave JG a No 2 just for why not!!

eggandonion · 25/10/2025 14:05

Imagine being American and watching Donald Trump being elected...
Fingers crossed for everything being ok . And a nice interview on the Late late to reassure us next week.

Feel the exact same. My eldest turned 18 over the summer so it was their first time voting and I wanted to impress on her what a privilege a right to vote is so made sure I went with her to polling station and didn't spoil my vote so grudgingly I gave HH my no. 1 non transferable vote.

The CC canvassers don't seem to know what the role of the president is and what their actual power is, they're talking like she's the ability now to make real change in Ireland, Jesus wept.

Onehorsetown · 25/10/2025 19:33

Over 200,000 people spoiled their votes. Another 100,000 voted for Gavin which was largely a protest vote too.
More than half the electorate didn't vote at all.
What does it say about the state of the country?

NĆl cliĆŗ agam. But some English guy on YouTube is saying it's a protest against immigration. Next up : the stolen election!

Immigration is part of it. Maria Steen got a lot of mentions. A lot of what I saw online mentioned the GRA.
I haven't seen any mentions of a stolen election in relation to Catherine Connolly. Perhaps 70% of the electorate not voting for her might make people question if it is the landslide some are claiming. But I think generally it was the expected result.
Personally I am just happy to see MM and SH get a kick in the a*se.

i think it shows what a large cohort feel disenfranchised from ā€œthe establishment ā€œ

It’s a real concern.

I do think that some FF/FG voters stayed home because they couldn’t vote for HH. HH ran a particularly poor campaign, a lot of it was based on attacking CC.

MarieDeGournay · 25/10/2025 21:54

Well, that's that for another 7 years!
I was impressed by the way CC and everybody else spoke at the declaration this evening. I think she indicated that she does understand the role of the president, and she sounded states-person-like, fair play to her.
And HH, and all the speakers - it was good to see the attitude of respect for the vote and for the woman who won it - weird though the election was!

She's our president now, I want her to do well, so - go n-Ʃirƭ go geal lƩi.

Abhannmor · 26/10/2025 09:11

Yes , aontaƭm leatsa , go nƩirƭ an tƔdh lƩi. Heather was very gracious I thought. She wouldn't have been a bad president at all. But yeah her advisors, especially the boorish Yates , completely messed up.
Gavin , I'm not sure what FF thought they were doing there tbh. Reminded me of Labour picking Adi Roche way back. A cunning plan my lord. Until it unravelled. A good woman with zero experience of politics.
If Catherine continues the work of Michael D I'll be happy.

Dagda · 26/10/2025 09:39

Absolutely HH was very gracious, she just had a bad strategy and CC clearly doesn’t play a divisive game.
