Thank you @TaTuirseOrm
I was led by the example of the brilliant name @JaneJeffer.

Love both those names

DeanElderberry · 20/10/2025 16:45

I love @deeahgwitch (though I remember war breaking out on a long-gone board when someone worked out that Dia dhuit was a user name but not the user's name) but totally fail to get anything from Jane Jeffer. Clearly very dim.

honeyrider · 20/10/2025 17:05

Is Jane Jeffer a play on hurry up in Irish?

Haven't a clue how to spell it though.

TaTuirseOrm · 20/10/2025 17:49

Jane Jeffer = DƩan Deifir, which does translate to Hurry up.
Very clever!!
Bualadh Bos šŸ‘ šŸ‘ both of you.

You mean Dean isn't your real name @DeanElderberry? 😲 mine is definitely Tatuirse šŸ˜†

DeanElderberry · 20/10/2025 18:26

I am a Dean. Of Elderberries. My name is Volecape, but I don't tell everyone.

My old Bluestocking Id, from centuries ago, when I was younger and thinner. It's a remarkably accurate representation of Tiddles, but in real life BooBoo looks more like a cat. .

Am shocked at how HH speaks about fox hunting and hare coursing - just because something has gone on for a long time does not make it okay!!!! There was a long tradition of page 3 girls too but we see things differently now...things change with time! It is not okay for a fox to be hounded and ripped apart for entertainment.... Unbelievable that so many people do support her. She just keeps repeating that it is a rural pursuit with a long tradition.. And I believe she was involved in quashing an impending Court case of animal cruelty in her neighbours farm.

And CC showed an appalling lack of judgement in allowing the lady who had been convicted with guns into Dail Eireann.. CC keeps saying she is rehabilitated but she pleaded not guilty in Court and is still a member of Eirigh (sp?)

It's a spoilt vote from me. I couldn't give either of this pair a vote. And I don't want to not vote.

deeahgwitch · 22/10/2025 15:27

I’m the same @Phase42
I just don’t want to give either of them a vote.

OP posts:
honeyrider · 22/10/2025 15:37

If I bother voting I'm considering voting for Jim Gavin and as much as I dislike Heather Humphries I detest Catherine Connolly.

DeanElderberry · 22/10/2025 15:43

People at our 'coffee' morning (mostly drinking tea) were very anti HH after the coursing comments. All of us rural. People who are still actively hunting underestimate how many country people, including farmers, hate it. A shotgun and a quick clean kill of a fox that's going rogue is one thing, those 'sports' are another. I'm slightly surprised - I remember FG being very pro-coursing 40 years ago but thought those days were done.

The ladies were fairly split between not voting at all and going Gavin 1. Even if some of them repent and vote down party lines on Friday the winner will be the choice of a small proportion of the overall electorate.

I sense a lack of passion all round - do the SFFFFGers think they're going to have to scrap the election tomorrow?

MarieDeGournay · 22/10/2025 16:37

Does CC ever give a direct answer to a direct question? I know all politicians are good at deflecting but CC seems to have taken it to Olympic levels, and she does so in such a condescending way, as if she has to go back to basics to explain it in terms that simple folk might understand - really irritating!

'How many genders do you thing there are?' [Alison Hyland interview]
ā€œIn my view, we’re talking about a tiny proportion of the population, and we passed a Gender Recognition Act to allow them to identify which gender. That’s law, and there’s a process in place. And then there’s a particular process in place for 16 to 18-year-olds where they need two medical reports,ā€

A mini-lecture instead of an direct answer.

What is a woman?'
ā€œI’m a woman, and I’m proud of it."

What kind of an answer is that? From somebody who is not just a politician, but a barrister!

Seven years of being lectured like this.... šŸ˜’

Three quarters of the ppl in DĆ”il Ɖireann are descended from men and women who were ' convicted with guns ' whatever that means. Indeed the main division in Irish politics concerns which of those previous convicts ones family blames / supports. My lot were Free Staters. I could never get a straight answer as to how they differ on anything sensible with the Dev party. And still can't . They're Tories agus sin sin.

Could be 14 years.

She speaks out both sides of her mouth. She bangs on about how progress in Galway is stifled yet she's a serial objector such as the Galway Bypass which is still being objected to for over 26 years, a private hospital, GAA grounds, new school campus when the school her DH teaches in were wanting to move site.

HayGal · 23/10/2025 15:48

Catherine Connoly is a chameleon, she can morph into anything she needs to be and has done it very successfully for years. Kind innocent granny, home repossesser, serial objector, Syria visitor, no regard for government buildings security etc etc. How the f**k can people vote for that. I could not vote for her ever.

Will put 1 next to Jim Gavin and nothing else because I have to exercise my vote. Don't care if FF get money back. Joke of an election.

anamo · 23/10/2025 16:35

Was MickleDee ever asked the gender question in 14 years I wonder?

As I said earlier in the thread, my single (non transferred) vote is going to Gavin as a protest. I'm so disappointed that I will not be voting for either female candidate, but I can't. And won't.

DeanElderberry · 23/10/2025 22:03

Miggledy signed the gender recognition act into law, stripping women of all rights (by abolishing women and making it impossible to assess things like pay parity).

I would not have voted for him in 2018 if I had known, but they kept it very quiet.

eggandonion · 23/10/2025 23:13

I have never voted for a winning president. I don't think I have ever given my number one to anyone who has goot elected.
Who should I vote for?šŸ™„

DeanElderberry · 24/10/2025 09:18

Jim Gavin of course, no transferables.

I wonder will the cold rain discourage the young voters? The olidies will all be out and about because it's pension day.

deeahgwitch · 24/10/2025 09:25

I was never a fan @DeanElderberry
I always felt he was a bit up himself, basked in being feted. Smoked salmon socialist and as for the accent šŸ™„
I never voted for him and just don’t get the love for him.

One of my cousins, a civil servant, was (maybe foolishly) vocal in opposing a project that MDH had expressed support for (contrary to scientific and other planning advice).

Then the government changed and MDH became his minister. NO magnanimity - cousin got cast into outer darkness until another election turned the wheel again.

It left me suspecting vanity and pettiness, not a winning combo.

JaneJeffer · 24/10/2025 11:48

I just came on to see if there was any consensus and when I saw my name mentioned I thought what have I done now šŸ˜‚

This is how I’m feeling.

I’m plummeting towards spoiling my vote.

This absolutely bothers me as my family fought a long time get equal voting rights in NI, but I cannot vote for either.

None of them represent my views for the next 14yrs. Apart from Mary Robinson which I was too young to vote in my time of being old enough to vote all candidates despite claiming they will do one term put their names forward for second term.
