Yes, I remember hearing about her too. I thought she was some relation to Charlie H, and she is a grand niece. Well done to her too 👏

I was actually reading up on this. I (unfairly) presumed that Khelif was transgender. She was actually born a female & has female parts but suffers from swyer syndrome. I would say she's had a tough life. She said she loved boxing as a child but was told it was only for boys. I have sympathy for her.

Abhannmor · 02/08/2024 20:45

I've read so many different things about Imane and Lin I no longer know what to believe tbh. It is hard not to sympathise with their particular circumstances. But we must balance that against the health and welfare of the other athletes. My daughter loved Tai Kwon Do. I'd hate to see her facing such unfair odds.

Glad I found this thread. I think we are doing so well, so proud of all the medalists so far. I'm addicted to keeping up with all the events!

On the Kellie Harrington thing, heard an interesting radio interview today where someone who is actually in the boxing industry was interviewed. He said Kellie never said she wouldn't fight them, and also reminded listeners that Khalif was beaten by Harrington in the 2016 Olympics and has a terrible knock out record. I also assumed Khalif was transgender until I heard that interview today. The media are really running with that angle!

Kellie already boxed and beat Khelif in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. She's not in the same weight category this time.

We can all feel sorry for children who appear to be female-ish when born, i.e. no external male genitalia, who don't have access to the kind of medical care that would check what their chromosomes are, who are assumed to be girls, and then find out at puberty that they are turning into men, because they are actually men with XY chromosomes. They have medical conditions which prevent the full development of male genitalia - they don't have female genitalia either, as some people claim.

It must be tough for children with DSDs, and it would have been nice for Khelif and Lin to have been loved and supported and cared for as they adjusted to the fact that they are male. Instead, they use their condition to take part in women's sports, using their physical advantage unfairly for fame and fortune. It may well be that they are cynically recruited when young to make money for their 'management', which is also very sad for them. But being sympathetic to their situation doesn't make them any less male.

Khelif and Lin were tested in the past and found to have XY chromosomes. Although the IBA who did the tests was later discredited, both boxers accepted the results, and they were disqualified from women's boxing by the IBA. So they can't pretend they don't know that there is widespread belief that they are not women, and if they are so sure they are, they could volunteer to take the simple cheek swab the IOC used to use.

Instead of the swab test, the IOC now says males are eligible to compete against females if they are 'legally' female, all they need is F on their passports. And we know how easy it is for men to self-identify as women and get passports which state that they are female. And hey presto! they'd be eligible to box against women in the Olympics!

Actually he is male.

I feel bad for him but I feel much worse for the female boxers.

I looked at his instagram- he lives as a male when not in the ring against women.

We cannot risk a paralysed or dead woman because he had it hard as a child.

Happiestwhen · 03/08/2024 03:54

Marie it says here they do have female parts
