New series tonight. Everyone ready for a million windows?

I live really near the house, I'm going to drive around there for a snoop this week...

Please report back!

AppropriateAdult · 30/01/2024 13:40

I just did a drive-by. It actually looks much nicer 'in the flesh', it doesn't seem to protrude as much relative to the houses around it.

Surprising! It did seem to dwarf the house a bit.

I mean, it's still definitely out of character with the rest of the estate. But it wasn't quite as jarring as I expected.

I admit I was kind of hoping you’d say the owners had done something wondrously un-Dermot to lay claim to the place. Like stuffing the garden full of mooning gnomes.

eggandonion · 30/01/2024 23:55

Id love to insist on outdoor gnomes and hideous art inside if Dermot was doing my plans.

I'd pay to watch that 😂

€600k to re- do the house. Like that to me was madness.

I was joking to DH, imagine if the sister moved out. Also the sisters kids lost their access into her new garden.

The house looked lovely in the end but seriously crazy money. Where I am from that'd still put 2 houses, maybe 3!

Money is not an issue to Dermot!

I thought that was the 1st time Dermot was trying to reign in the clients instead of pushing them to spend more.

I really liked the garden. I would never maintain it though. I have a glass house for summer and that's hard enough!

I suppose if you're going to on that show you might have a few extra bob tucked down the side of the couch? Dermot is a bit of a nightmare with the money though, show them the world, then tell them it's out of budget.

pontipinemum · 31/01/2024 11:43

@Chickenkeev ya he's normally terrible, did you notice in this one as well he got the price of some stone or something wrong by like €15k!! In the other one's he is like surely you can stretch yourself. Me and my mam are currently in the process of buying a house for her. We know exactly what we can and cannot afford inc if there will be any improvements. Maybe I need to search my couch though

You really should 😂 he really shouldn't be that bad when he has a QS.i get quite irked when he's waffling about aesthetics and totally ignoring the cost. (I might be tight though 😂)

He gasped and said he’d thought the cost of the kitchen refit included the worktops!

@eggandonion, please apply to go on the show, nod along with Dermot’s tasteful aesthetic throughout to lull him into a false sense of security, and then, when he returns for the final reveal at the end (and it’s usually all clean modern lines and kitchens that look like spaceships apart from fresh flowers and some carefully-curated quirky detail), hit him with your technicolour llama wallpaper and a coffee table that has human legs in fishnets and stilettos.

And the gnomes, obviously. Spot-lit gnomes looking in through the big bifolds.

Did anyone else think "I've a sibling/ friend / relative working in the Mater I must ask them what's she like." ?

Almost €700,000 on a refurb on an ordinary 3bed semi ShockShockShock

eggandonion · 31/01/2024 15:02

I currently am sitting in a living room with an ironing board set up and ready...i have a vase of wilted daffodils because I buy them even though they last 2 days...a messy coffee table with a pile of dhs work,a bag of sweets and a cheque book on it. My grass needs cut. It was cut before the storm last October. There are about 6 chargers scattered around. My fireside rug is moulting.
I removed the remains of a selection box yesterday...it was recycling day. I ate the double decker and will eat the fudge later.
Dermot must surely employ cleaners who tidy up before the reveal?

It'd be great to see what the gaffs look like with all their stuff in there. Not the curated few bits like.

A relative of mine attended her as a patient. Says "She's a ticket."

Gowlett · 03/02/2024 02:41

Was wondering about the new “look” of the house, and thinking - oh, they’ve gone this nice clean aesthetic & burnt all of their old junk. This must be her dream look! After spending that kind of money, I’d want a whole new vibe too! But, it makes more sense that it might be staged furnishings… Still, the house has been ripped out & is a totally different gaff now, so I hope they’ve ditched the old junk!

Gowlett · 03/02/2024 02:43

Must watch the one with yer man the nutritionist. Lots of people were crazy for the wife, saying she was a very cool lady!

I would take Dermot over an rte drama series any day

JaneJeffer · 12/01/2025 22:02

Anyone watching this year? I forgot about it last week.

All this insulation and the new heating system is going to fairly eat into the budget. Then they find asbestos 😰

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 12/01/2025 22:37

The ending seemed very rushed but it turned out lovely. Wonder how they'll keep it pristine when they're doing the upstairs though?

I watched it @JaneJeffer Yes it seemed rushed.
I wondered why they just didn't sell up and spend the €315,000 on somewhere more suited to their needs.
If they were selling it now would they get a return for the money they spent ?

I think the shed went Smile and was replaced by a metal one.
