New series tonight. Everyone ready for a million windows?

I pass that house every day of the week. I saw all the work going on but I had no idea it was for Room to Improve.

JaneJeffer · 14/01/2024 23:22

It's lovely seeing the old houses being done up and lived in again.

Agreed on both points! They seemed young and he definitely seemed young to be a principal! I thought I heard him say at the start that he wanted a quiet place away from everyone else. That might have been the outdoor gym but it might not have materialised.

I think they did want an outdoor gym! (Doubting myself now!) They really need Patricia the old QS back for the bit of drama. She was great. Never happy 😂

Chickenkeev · 14/01/2024 23:25

So cool to have the views of the Rock of Cashel, money well spent for them. Hope they have many happy years there.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 14/01/2024 23:40

Loved Patricia too Chickenkeev.
There was definitely a gym in the plan. I think Dermot was trying to put the brakes on a bit and make provision for extras in the future.

Yes it's great to see new life coming back into old homes. It's definitely the way forward. Wishing them well.

Weirdaf1 · 14/01/2024 23:40

I'm very jealous of the location. Their view is amazing.

RoseParade · 14/01/2024 23:52

Haven't watched yet but Cashel only 30 mins drive from me so can't wait. Gets me every time I drive into the Tesco car park in Cashel that I can see such an amazing view of the Rock of Cashel! Love Hugh Wallace more than DB but still like Toom to Improve.

Have to say, i couldn't cope with the rural living despite the view. I've always been city/suburbs. I don't think Dermot would be too impressed with my gaff at all 😂

RoseParade · 14/01/2024 23:56

Some weird goth throwback? "Toom" meant "Room" Wink

JaneJeffer · 14/01/2024 23:58

I'd watch that @RoseParade Grin

Totally prefer Dermot to Hugh (at least fadó fadó when Dermot would get crotchety with his clients). Hugh tends to love everything most effusively. No drama 😂

Tomb to Improve. An Easter Special 😅

DH said ‘A principal? Isn’t he going to make a single decision about the house? Or even finish a sentence?’ He got terribly excited when Youthful Principal Man got invited inside solo to give his opinion on the polished concrete floor colours, and mused as to whether Excitable Wife had been locked in a Portaloo.

(We only saw the second half so didn’t get the names.)

Then he felt bad when they lost their baby.

They seemed very sweet. Though I haven’t heard anyone say ‘Ah, lads!’ or ‘Cool!’ that much since about 1992.

(They should have gone for the warmer grey polished concrete. And repointed the red brick in a darker colour.)

Dermot would die at the sight of our house, which is a draughty warren of 19thc rooms painted in dark colours, with books and crap everywhere.

I would watch that. Dermot fulminating against black marble headstones, coloured clippings, and ‘cluttered’ graves.

eggandonion · 15/01/2024 13:14

Our house is a 1970s horror. Dermot would have to get one of those other programmes that take all your junk outside and won't let you have it back. Then declare the house impossible to do anything with and l need to find 250k. Or declare it derelict.
One of my neighbours has polished concrete flooring. It liiks sort of unfinished...theirs is grey. He is Mr Diy.

Lol!!! I can imagine Dermot passing out at the state of most people's houses tbh. The ones he does are so fancy as to be the exception. Also, re the concrete flooring, would it not be v cold?

eggandonion · 15/01/2024 13:36

I assume people with concrete floors have underfloor heating? (I have no proof!)

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 15/01/2024 13:38

Exactly. Said that to DH last night. Wouldn't concrete flooring be very cold. We had concrete floors when we moved into our bare new house twenty odd years ago out of necessity as we were broke. They used to hoover beautifully.

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2024 13:57

The days of moving in and doing things as you can afford them seem to be gone!

I just said to DS1 that on Saturday that all the junk is what's holding our house together and it'll probably collapse if we get rid of it Grin

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 15/01/2024 14:20

Well it sounds snarky to say it but that's what struck me. You used to start with the basics and work up to the outdoor dining area with barbecue.

We had a big toy clear out before Christmas and gave lots of toys away that were still good condition. It was marvellous. Still have lots of stuff though. We are in a four bedroomed semi. Two of the bedrooms are tiny for the amount of stuff the kids have.

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2024 14:28

I've always been of the mindset that I'd rather go without than have a load of debt hanging over me. Yes it would be lovely to have all the fancy stuff but I can manage fine without it.

I'll have to fire upp the aul RTE app and see if I can catch this abroad! Love this series, can't understand why RTE don't manage to sell it to other countries while British telly manage to sell Escape to the Country fgs.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 15/01/2024 14:39

Same here Jane. No way.
