DDS school is still open as they have air con. Quite a few other schools are closed

Frugal25 · 23/06/2026 18:37

Went to the park, I got given free water by the ice cream man although I already had some bless him and DD got an ice cream £3. Also 59p to print a photo out in boots as we are visiting DD new school tomorrow to meet her teachers and they have requested a photo of her.

A bit annoyed about the pre school closing I have to be honest. Mum can't have DD for a few hours due to her house move, so I'm now working, looking after a child and all in the same heat they have but apparently can't have them in. And they have said no refund for the hours they are sending them home that I've paid for. Sigh.

Yoga can't come soon enough.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 23/06/2026 19:27

How unfair of them to not at least refund the money @Frugal25. They want it all ways don't they 🙄.
That was lovely of the ice cream man bless him ,enjoy Yoga sweetheart 🤗.
You are lucky your DD school has AC @, l blinking wish l had it @Alwaysgrowing😁.
Just waiting for England v Ghana, DH is settled in his chair all agog bless 🤣

Today was nearly a no spend day but I went to Sainsbury this evening and bought some jelly. I’ve made it with some fruit so that will be nice tomorrow.

I laughed at your mention of thunder and lightening @DirtyGertiefromno30. I was stepping out the door for the gym this morning and it was like a disco so I retreated. The storm was right over us and given my luck didn’t fancy my chances.

I’m a creature of habit @Frugal25. I love the Alps. France and Switzerland mostly. I’ve done round Mont Blanc (a lot), Courmayeur, Valais, Bernese Oberland, Graubünden and some of the smaller ranges. I love it. The scenery, the food, the weather. Definitely my happy place. Will add the Carpathians to my list. I have opened my bags I’m stocked well with potato wedges and cheese bites. I’m not complaining. Sorry about the school that’s a pain.

I second Dirty they always suspect the spouse @DeepFriedCreamEgg.

I’m enjoying the weather (except for the storm this morning throwing my plans off). Was meant to be at the office tomorrow but thankfully the meeting has been moved online. Surprisingly I have no wish to see my boss.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 23/06/2026 20:45

Ha ! A no spend day defeated by jelly @RumBananaSundae! That's a necessity in this weather you are excused 😁
I don't blame you for retreating when the thunder and lightning started. Especially with all the crap you have been dealt lately you don't want to temp fate! 😱
The Alps sound amazing . No wonder they're your happy place. You've visited some really beautiful areas there ❤️
I'm glad tomorrow's meeting has been moved online. You can enjoy the weather without having to see your cruddy boss. I think if l were you a voodoo doll with his/her face would be having big pins stuck in them 🤣

@Frugal25
My friends school has been closed tomorrow which is absolutely fantastic when she is expected on a maternity ward perhaps her patients could pop a cork in and have the baby when it's cooler.
What shall we do to the childcare workers who clearly fancy an afternoon in the pub?

DeepFriedCreamEgg · 24/06/2026 08:13

One word to describe today girls?

Mine is

"Urgh" 🥵 🔥

Frugal25 · 24/06/2026 10:40

Oh I haven't heard of any of them @RumBananaSundaeand as work is quiet I am going to Google. I think @DirtyGertiefromno30is right, I love mountains and walking but it's the prep. Although I have most things now.
Wedges and cheese bites...... Yummy. Let me know if you need help eating them, I'll be right over.

I think @DeepFriedCreamEgg we should send the children in anyway and let them get on with it!!! And maybe wish the teachers a very sweaty night with no sleep. That sounded rude. Meant the weather.

Should be a NSD for me although I'm eyeing up booking swimming for tomorrow morning. Maybe I'll book it up first thing :)

Is it me or have we lost a few people in this chat? I suggest a search party 🥳 🎉

drspouse · 24/06/2026 11:01

My yesterday was also "urgh" but today I'm in my north-facing office with the windows open and max temperature today is only 25.
So far today I've spent £43 on 20 home-work bus tickets, unfortunately I lost my purse in the house (I am convinced) before going to my mum's on Sunday and DH couldn't find it. I have frozen all my cards except one which I've re-ordered - nobody has used them so I am fairly sure they are just lost not stolen. But then I had to unfreeze one to buy the bus tickets!
Yesterday apart from a shed load of food and drinks for my really horrible train journey home (though the last train was air conditioned and DH picked me up), I made some Prime Day purchases but they were all things we would have got anyway - flea bombs for the house, moisturiser for me, and exciting double sided sticky tape.

Lockin26 · 24/06/2026 12:10

Ah wow, I'm missing the storms and extreme heat here as we are only on the edge of it all, although it is high 20s here. I'm sitting under shade outdoors working - had two v long, busy days and just been to a face to face meeting but now I'm home for the rest of the day.

@RumBananaSundae I do love the sound of your holidays and happy places.

Listening to the radio this morning, the general consensus seemed to be keep the schools open. Then parents can make the call, if they need to go to work especially. My DDs primary didn't shut in 2022 and it hit 38° up here. I am with you @Frugal25 and @DeepFriedCreamEgg

Oh I hope you can find your purse @drspouse

Agree @Frugal25 it's quiet on the chat Hope everyone MIA is okay - I miss hearing about glamorous trips, cruises and marathons!

Hope you enjoyed the football @DirtyGertiefromno30 although I believe it was less exciting than the first game.

Lockin26 · 24/06/2026 12:13

Forgot to update my spends although it will get bigger as the day goes on. Trip away to see a friend and do the Race for Life this weekend so I'm prepping for that. May update tonight 🫣

Frugal25 · 24/06/2026 13:22

I got a refund from them school!!!!! I was the only one that moaned about it amongst the parents. The only one that asked the school. And I got it!! Whoop £24 refund for me. Get in!

I miss the glamour too @Lockin26 I can't really bring glamour to the chat unless you want to hear about refunds and cat litter.

Oh no your purse @drspouse fingers crossed it's just somewhere "safe".

33 degrees here. Got to go out in a bit to DD school and meet her new teacher. Not looking forward to the heat of a school....

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 24/06/2026 14:31

One word to describe today @DeepFriedCreamEgg
STICKY 🤣

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 24/06/2026 14:48

Afternoon everyone 😊 🌞
Been to see Mum who was fine there thankfully, 32C here so we are ensconced in the front room , half nakednow there's a sight for sore eyes. 🤣 with the fans on. NSD for me yay!
Swimming tomorrow sounds like a great idea in this heat @Frugal25 😁
I was thinking the same ,where has everyone disappeared to?
Of course they could be on hols or just really busy . I do hope @lifelongfrugaleer is ok as well as everyone else not here 🤗
And well done on the refund! 🥳 £24 back just because you asked !
Good for you !
33 degrees 😱
Good luck surviving the trip to school. and l so hope DD's new teacher is lovely 🤗🤞🙏

Oh no @drspouse what a pain about your purse! I really hope it turns up in the house soon. At least everything’s been frozen phew!
Your office sounds much nicer today , 25 with the windows open is not too bad imho .
Yesterday’s train journey sounds grim though 😱
Your Prime Day buys were all very practical and sensible.Well done you .
Fingers crossed the purse turns up 🤞🤗

OP posts:
DirtyGertiefromno30 · 24/06/2026 15:54

Sounds like you've got the best of it with you @Lockin26,warm and sunny without the storms! Sitting in the shade outdoors sounds much nicer than being stuck inside.
I agree about the schools , keeping them open and letting parents decide seems the sensible thing to do .
The football was nowhere near as good as the first match but nevermind.
Your weekend sounds lovely seeing a friend and doing the Race for Life. Good luck with the prep, and I hope you have a fantastic time. 😊
I have been looking to see where you might be doing it, being as it is at the Welsh border but there were so many places l Gave up 🤣

How did Sunday go @drspouse I forgot to ask earlier.

Got another refund from gymnastics class as they cancelled this week's class. I've been sensible and instead my old self going "shoes!!!!!!" I've put it in the car pot as MOT is due.

DD teacher was absolutely lovely. School is amazing too. Very happy. She came with me and met some of her new friends. Sadly, her whole pre school are going to this school and she for some reason has been put in one class and the rest in the other two classes so she doesn't know anyone, they are all from other pre schools I think. Ah well. She is a friendly little girl and will make new friends. Just a shame as her current friends are lovely.

RumBananaSundae · 24/06/2026 19:23

Spent £17 in Marks and Spencer today. I went for milk and ended up with a few more bits. Hopefully I’m done grocery wise until Monday. Except for bread to have with cheese on Friday.

No cruddy boss at all today @DirtyGertiefromno30. The person who was meant to be presenting at the meeting called in sick so it was completely cancelled. Pretty sure they weren’t sick but I’m not complaining. Glad your mum is OK.

Oh no about your purse @drspouse. I hope you find it.

Good luck for this weekend @Lockin26. Fingers crossed for the weather.

Two refunds @Frugal25. Ace. Glad the teacher and the school are OK. Go swimming tomorrow.

The town centre was empty and Marks and Spencer was a sea of yellow stickers. I got some sushi. Phone call with the solicitor today. He’s checking something’s and will get back to me. I hope he does as it’s a decision making day tomorrow and I’m undecided.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 24/06/2026 20:04

That’s great about the refund @Frugal25well done for putting it towards the MOT instead of shoes😁
Glad the teacher was lovely and the school visit went so well.
Shame she’s not with her preschool friends but she sounds a lovely little girl, just like her Mummy I’m sure she’ll make loads of new friends❤️

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 24/06/2026 20:16

£17 in M&S isn’t bad at all @RumBananaSundae especially with milk, a few extras and Sushi and yellow stickers are always a bonus 😁.
Glad you got a break from work with no cruddy boss too 🤮 , in the words of my Dd2 when she was little , He's a PIGUANA 🤣 . Our town centre was deserted too 🤗.
Hope the solicitor gets back to you in time and gives you the info you need for tomorrow’s decision sweetheart 🤗

Piguana I love it wonder how many times you could get that into conversation without people clicking on that your being insulting.

Alwaysgrowing · 24/06/2026 21:15

£10 for present from Amazon for DDS friends birthday. Otherwise a NS 3 days. We've got Amazon prime for a couple more days so my husband has bought a couple of bits from it.

It's too hot and sticky for me so I've been hiding indoors. I did consider going to the supermarket on Monday or today (I worked yesterday). I fancied a Lidl pastry, but the fridge was full and I had some leftover pancake batter so had jam and cheese pancakes. And have been eating stuff we have in the house.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 24/06/2026 21:25

Who would have thunk it @Alwaysgrowing😁😋
We did my Mum this morning and just like you have been in the house all day . I think it's just being sensible really.
It's been so hot my washing dried in an hour 😁
