I asked last month if I would be entitled to the cost of living payment in October - the dates have just been released - if I got a payment on 21st august does this mean I will get the payment- I don't quite understand the statements . Sorry for being a bit thick ' •
To be eligible for the Cost of Living Payment from DWP, you need to have been entitled to a payment for a qualifying benefit between 18 August 2023 and 17 September 2023, or payment for an assessment period, ending between these dates. From HMRC, you need to have received a payment of tax credits for any day in the period between 18 August 2023 and 17 September 2023.

@Debi08 would this put me into this criteria would you know??

My last 2 payment were:

10 August - 9 September £0
10 September - 9 October £182

so it was only one 10/8/23 - 9/9/23 I wasn't entitled to anything but the next assessment period I was which covered from the 10 Sep onwards I was looking at the criteria it states up to the 17th September.

In all honesty I have no idea. It doesn't make much sense. I think that you do qualify though. I'm gutted as I didn't even think about it and was relying on it a bit for Christmas. Never mind. Sorry not much help x

I don’t think you qualify as your assessment period that ended 18th august - 17th September was a £0 one.

Universal Credit for an assessment period that ended in the period 18 August 2023 to 17 September 2023.

Your next assessment period is ended outside that time so you aren’t eligible from what I understand.

@Debi08

I think to have the eligibility over one assessment period is very unfair :(

@TeaKitten

Thank you I was thinking that too :(

Decideforme · 07/11/2023 15:02

@bexmc78 it's when the assessment period ends that counts. Unfortunately, you had a nil award in the assessment period that counts.

Welcometothelionsden · 07/11/2023 20:24

@bexmc78 are you by any chance a civil servant?

bexmc78 · 07/11/2023 20:31

@Welcometothelionsden yeah :)

Welcometothelionsden · 07/11/2023 20:47

Yes I am sure it's no coincidence that period was used as so many will have had an additional payment from employer.

With claims being zero-ed the following month (incl loss of help towards holiday childcare for many) and then the loss of the DWP COL payment, many of the lower paid civil servants will be worse off.

bexmc78 · 07/11/2023 21:37

@Welcometothelionsden Exactly, even though I am grateful for the extra I have lost out on my months childcare help which has made me not much better off to be honest !! Frustrating being a full time working mum trying my best but hey ho we move on ...

Yep I think the same, luckily my col payment didn't take me down to nil on my UC that month

@nightnurse82 I got my payment today, hope you have too!

nightnurse82 · 10/11/2023 17:03

@molosolo yes I did thank you, such a relief.
