As the title suggests please could you all share what your council tax cost now is rising to.

If happy to share the council area that would be helpful and size of property!

Im about to rent a one bedroom cottage and shocked at the price!

Band A small North east town. Nearly £197 a month. How on earth is our council tax much more expensive than London?!

dripdripdripdrip · 26/03/2023 13:24

It is lots of things Panda. For instance, Westminster will raise lots of money from on street parking (£5 an hour in some places), lots of businesses paying business rates, social care costs will be low relative to other places.

Westminster Council won't need to charge as much council tax as it raises income elsewhere/doesn't have the same level of social care provision/expenditure.

This is the problem with LAs operating as an island.

3 bed, Band B.
£135 up from £128, paid over 12 months.

LindyLou2020 · 26/03/2023 13:30

I know this wasn't the point of OP's post, and I'm not trying to start a political debate, but our council has, like many others, increased council tax by just over 5%.
However, it states that even with this increase, it is looking as to where it can make savings, and further cuts in services will have to be made.
Other councils are saying this also.
So many of us are, again, going to be paying more for less...........just stating the facts.

Luckydip1 · 26/03/2023 13:30

In London the GLA part is as high as the borough part for some...

MissLucyLiu · 26/03/2023 13:33

£2,670.22 a year to £2,785.15 , going up by 4.3%

SquashPenguin · 26/03/2023 13:33

We’re in a 5 bed band D in Wales. Gone up by about £8 a month to £1800 a year or thereabouts.

RollerCoaster2020 · 26/03/2023 13:40

£122 a month with 25% single person discount on full amount of £1806 p.a. band C 7 bedroom terrace Hampshire

BeanzToastie · 26/03/2023 13:45

Smallish three bed end of terrace in London suburbs = £2400/year

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 26/03/2023 14:05

Band a, 128 a month for ten months, midlands, three bed mid terrace

BooseysMom · 26/03/2023 17:08

I didn't realise you can look up the actual council tax for every property! It shocked me to find that we pay just £20 less per year than a huge 4 bed detached up the road! We are band C, only a 2 bed, paying £145 p/m soon to increase to £154. It's very unfair.

Nw22 · 26/03/2023 17:11

Band c, northwest, 2100 a year. 4 bed semi

IhearyouClemFandango · 26/03/2023 17:13

Band c, isle of wight. 4 bed semi. Now £2189 p/a, 5.3% up on last year.

Paid over 10 months so averages £219.

I don't begrudge council tax, but I do begrudge the govt cutting local council funding to the point that they make local govt the bad guys when they have to increase funding somehow.

Oops, sorry meant £20 more per month, not year!

GiltEdges · 26/03/2023 17:33

3 bed Band E (Yorks), gone from £1848 to £1950.

Nothing2lose · 26/03/2023 17:38
