About £9 a day for both, yes we could cut down on heating but I worry about the impacts it will have on the actual house, we can stay warm with extra layers etc but what problems is no/minimal heating going to end up costing people long term?

This is a good point. A cold house means you end up with condensation on the walls!

NewBootsAndRanty · 11/12/2022 14:11

Yesterday: gas 100kwh (£10.24), electric 2kwh (64p) + standing charges-> £11.62

Gas slightly higher than usual because of turning the CH off til midnight the day before (only heated the front room), then getting the flat - esp my bedroom- back up to 18, which took about 3 hours.

Today so far I've used 22kwh from midnight to 10:30am, so £2.25 to have the heating set to 18 overnight. Ele so far is 0.5kwh/17p

We've had to implement a soft rule whereby if we go over our daily limit for both fuels it's heating and lights and unessential items etc off. We'll run the hall light if we need to as it feeds into the other rooms, and will all sit under the covers to read or watch something on a charged phone or tablet. Will still cook etc as need to eat. Thankful we've avoided this bar two nights so far but I can see a lot of early nights coming simply because I can't afford to do anything else.

Tonight we are sitting around £4.50

zurala · 11/12/2022 21:55

It's is about £15 a day now it's got cold outside. We are home all the time so have to have the heating on every day.

NewBootsAndRanty · 12/12/2022 13:00

Yesterday £6.51 gas, £2.55 electric, £9.06 all in.

Witsendwilly · 12/12/2022 13:04

Gas only. Doesn’t include the standing charge and the Hive app will only be recording when the boiler is on for heating, so doesn’t include all the showers, dish washing etc.

Use to be £90 DD. £300 month (before the snow). Before Govts £60. It really is stressful. It’s all I think about now how I can afford this.

I only put the heating on two weeks ago and we were spending around £9 a day combined gas and electricity ...now the heating is during the day it's almost £20 a day (combined gas and electricity )

I don't know what to do as the house is so cold (12° C without any heating) and unfortunately there are people home all day so I don't have the option of turning it off during the day.

Zuve · 14/12/2022 18:37

Yesterday gas 11 and electricity 5. We have gas heating and water on 10am until 12pm

NewBootsAndRanty · 14/12/2022 18:42

Yesterday: gas £8.20, electric 68p, £9.63 all in.

OnNaturesCourse · 14/12/2022 23:05

Gas £3.37
Electric £1.54

Heating off most of day. Bloody cold. Good thing maybe as it's making me head to bed earlier than usual.
Did get one load of washing done today so not bad.
Showered at pool after swimming.

Glassofwhatever · 14/12/2022 23:12

£28 per day if we charge the EV. Have an electric Aga which costs a fortune to run but is off most of the year. Oil and logs on top of that too, we live in an ancient, hole ridden house.

NewBootsAndRanty · 15/12/2022 15:54

Yesterday electric 59p, gas £9.26, £10.60 all in
Cold snap due to end Sunday; a whopping 13° expected Monday - bring it on!

Anjo2011 · 15/12/2022 16:38

Approx £9 a day. Hoping the warmer weather next week will allow us some days where we don’t need it as much. It’s doubled from last months daily cost.

NewBootsAndRanty · 16/12/2022 19:20

Yesterday: electric 53p, gas £8.55, £9.83 all in.

From the 1-15th December I've spent £106.80 on gas and £20.50 on electric , plus standing charges - £138.80 all in. And only halfway through the month..

Alainlechat · 17/12/2022 11:20

Mine is coming out about £5 per day gas and £6 per day electric. We have had the heating on a lot more this month so hoping it will drop a bit now with the milder weather.

Pelo22 · 17/12/2022 11:42

Eon next have just offered me £50 credit per meter to change to a smart meter
I booked the appointment immediately! I know it's "only" £100 but it'll help

Must be more than £100 in it for them. It's odd though, I've heard of people waiting months for a smart meter on here, yet they are still pushing them?

Pelo22 · 17/12/2022 14:14

@Athenen0ctua they've booked me in for the first week of January!
The meters are about 16 years old now and I got a letter saying here's £50 credit per meter plus a Costa gift card
Makes no difference to me as same rate but just a smart meter rather than a standard one

ForestLilac · 17/12/2022 14:18

This week I spent £42 so it averages out at £6 per day although some days more, some less. No heating on until at least late lunchtime, and if I’m at work it’s not until 6pm. Nothing on in the morning.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 17/12/2022 14:21

Ours tops £20 / every day. We are still absolutely freezing. Old Victorian property which is big. We actually spent £7k on insulation but it's made very little difference
We don't have the heating on all day and the
Heating is off over night, heated throws etc.

We have all been unwell and I don't think the cold had helped

We can afford it but it is getting ridiculous now

Yarrawonga · 17/12/2022 14:26

I haven’t a clue. Before the prices went up, gas worked out at around £5 a day in winter. So considerably more than that now I expect.

BooseysMom · 17/12/2022 15:12

Cold snap due to end Sunday; a whopping 13° expected Monday - bring it on!

Oh definitely..it can't come soon enough!!

NewBootsAndRanty · 17/12/2022 15:14

On Monday it will be warmer outside than my flat was inside this morning (boiler lost pressure when i went to bed and turned itself off) Shock
