On Monday it will be the same temperature outside as my thermostat is set to when the heating is on.

Cold snap due to end Sunday; a whopping 13° expected Monday - bring it on!

Oh definitely..it can't come soon enough!!

Can’t wait

it’s -7 at the moment and unheard of in Kent

NewBootsAndRanty · 21/12/2022 01:03

Electricity 50p, gas £3.99, £5.24 all in.

Mrshanklee · 21/12/2022 18:28

I’m around £8 a day last couple of days. Been £15 for the ones before that.

Zuve · 27/12/2022 20:02

About 5 electricity and gas is 6. We are in all day

BooseysMom · 27/12/2022 20:22

I've felt so poorly today with this cold and cough that I had to turn the heating up as I just couldn't get warm. Dreading the cost.

NewBootsAndRanty · 27/12/2022 20:28

Yesterday: £4.40 gas, 56p electric, £5.71 all in.

Piester · 28/12/2022 11:11

mine is around £8-9 per day this week but as high as £15 when it was sub zero

Calmdown14 · 28/12/2022 12:59

The difference in the electric use here is staggering.
How are some so high? We are all electric and about £4 a day. Some are double that with a gas supply on top. Others are only using 3kwh per day.

I really think it is worth investigating your useage and what spikes it. I'm on economy 10 so very conscious of the 14hour peak rate at it's 45p a kWh (soon to be 55p!).
Even with a TV on all day and running fridges, hot water, some cooking we use about 4kwh across those 14 hours (and about 10 at cheaper rate but that is mostly storage heater).

The variations in gas are more understandable but some of the electric use seems sky high.

Very similar here.
Just had bill for Nov-Dec and it’s £360.
Actual usage very similar to last year but bill then was £170 (had new boiler installed in April which is much more efficient)

Notanotherone6 · 29/12/2022 13:56

Just paid December's bill. £575. Heating on all day, set to 18. Off overnight. 3 adults including one disabled who WFH/are in all the time, and 4 children. That's not far off my mortgage costs....

BooseysMom · 29/12/2022 18:12

Isn't electricity way more expensive than gas? I think I read on another thread it's double the cost. We've only got electricity but it's a new air source heating so hoping its more efficient

Calmdown14 · 29/12/2022 19:31

Yes electric is more than gas but we have variation on this thread from under 2kwh per day to almost 20.

If you are using gas for your heating and hot water I'm wondering how you can get through that much (it's more than we use on an all electric system).

If it were me I'd be clamping down on the electric in order to heat my home for longer with gas .

Unless you are running medical equipment or an electric aga then £6 plus a day on electric is very high useage as it's about 17kwh

Judelawsnanny · 29/12/2022 19:33

Ours is £21-£28 per day, electric Aga and electric car 😞

Yarrawonga · 29/12/2022 19:38

The standing charge, or not much more. We are away from home and everything is turned off.

buzzswole · 29/12/2022 19:53

Mine is ridiculous because it's an old building. Over £20 a day for gas when we had the cold snap a few weeks ago. We had an elderly relative visiting so had to have the heating on but usually we have minimal heating.
The highest we usually set the thermostat is 17 degrees and that still costs £10 a day

I haven't submitted readings to get bills for December yet. But I think we are similar!

I have a 2YO and the house is 200 years old and can get a bit damp. We have the heating set to 16 typically and lately I have been doing up to 18 as a 'treat' 😬

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 29/12/2022 20:23

£6.80 electricbut i did 2 loads of washing and used the tumble dryer

£5.28 in gas and we had the heating on for 2hrs

Lubli456 · 29/12/2022 20:25

About a tenner a day on electricity atm. Heating is oil so it’s difficult to assess the cost.

cakeorwine · 29/12/2022 20:33

Our electric is 3 - 4 kWh day. A bit more as home more over Christmas but generally not too much fluctuation.

Which is to be expected as electricity use is pretty similar during the year if it's not used for heating.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 30/12/2022 20:34

Now at about £9 a day all in

Diversion · 30/12/2022 20:40

Average of £6.93 per day over December for electric, we have no gas.

champagneplanet · 01/01/2023 23:38

Just worked mine out as my smart meter doesn't work, I think we're up to £550 since the beginning of November.

Our usage has increased significantly in December compared to November, presumably due to the cold snap and us all being home for the past two weeks.

The last 4 days has cost us £43!! Most of that was probably having the oven on for a leg of lamb today - won't be doing that again for a while!

NewBootsAndRanty · 01/01/2023 23:43

Today up til 22:30
43p electric, £2.85 gas, plus standing charges. Central heating set to 18 constantly.
