Cost of Living 2nd payment

It feels a bit ridiculous that we are in October now and the ‘autumn’ payment date still hasn’t been released. I’m due my usual UC payment in a few weeks but I need that to buy food etc and I’m in desperate need of a coat as I don’t have one and it’s getting cold and very rainy.

I know it probably won’t come until the end of October or possibly November but I feel like by the end of September we should’ve known when to expect it.

And before anyone says something snarky I’ve been doing school runs in the pouring rain in a non waterproof (obviously) denim jacket so I 100% stand by that a coat is an acceptable use of the COL payment.

I’ve seen lots of diffrent dates thrown around but nothing from gov

Prettybubblesintheair · 03/10/2022 13:44

I agree, they should be telling us when. A lot of us are relying on it for winter essentials especially now heating is a luxury. I need to get warmer duvets and pjs for us all. I suspect we won’t know until all of the £150 disability payments have been received but the absolute silence from the government about it is not at all on.

Charity shops have great waterproof winter coats I would definitely check them before buying new. Ski jackets for £10 type of thing

I was having exactly the same conversation in work as I’ve been waiting for the second cost date to be announced support a lot of people in my role.

The guidance that has been updated basically makes the eligibility dates 26th august to 25th September - all explained here

Thank you I couldn’t link so screen shot it

twilightermummy · 03/10/2022 20:41

November! It was supposed to be September!

CornishTiger · 03/10/2022 20:43

Payments to be paid 8th Nov til 23rd Nov. Except Tax credits claimants who will wait even longer.

when the Queen died I said well there goes an announcement for at second cost of living date- what I didn’t expect was for the rich to get richer and the new taxation rules to be announced and the government not deal with this business as soon as they got back. Everyone who works supporting the most vulnerable has been waiting for this as well as those in need of it themselves.

November! It was supposed to be September!

They never announced September as a payment date as far as I'm aware.

CornishTiger · 03/10/2022 20:47

Technically they did say Autumn and This year autumn begins on 23 September 2022 and ends on 21 December 2022….. but yes it’s too late in my opinion.

Not least that it’s a little too close to Christmas in my opinion and whilst people are free to spend it however they wish a lot of people will focus on a good Christmas rather than financially targeting other priorities.

OP if you need a good coat what size are you? Would you consider posting on Facebook? So many people having clear outs.

TheyreAllDeadDave · 03/10/2022 20:48

I got myself a perfectly functional waterproof jacket from the men's section of the local hospice shop for £3.50 over the weekend. Try your local charity shops!

What happened to the coat you wore last winter though? Or have you never had one Sad

Prettybubblesintheair · 08/11/2022 07:02

Anyone receive it yet? I’m on esa, received my usual esa this morning but not the cost of living.

CornishTiger · 08/11/2022 07:18

It’s not due to be started until today.

Prettybubblesintheair · 08/11/2022 07:30

Yes I know it’s just last time I received it on the release date so I was hoping for the same as we’ve had to buy a new boiler and are really relying on the payment for food shopping

ListenLinda · 08/11/2022 07:34

@Prettybubblesintheair Yes. Mine was in my account this morning.

Last payment was a few days after everyone started to recieve them, so I was pretty surprised to recieve it today.

Prettybubblesintheair · 08/11/2022 07:36

Thanks @ListenLinda do you mind me asking which benefit you receive?

Amandasummers · 08/11/2022 07:40

I've just received mine this morning

Kerrybemmy · 08/11/2022 08:24

I received mine today aswell, got my first COL on the 14th July also. I'm on ESA.

Prettybubblesintheair · 08/11/2022 08:25

Thanks @Kerrybemmy. Not sure why I didn’t receive it then!

Kerrybemmy · 08/11/2022 08:33

I think it's just random, my sister never got it neither but she had first one early. Not as many on ESA got it this time unfortunately, mainly UC

Kerrybemmy · 08/11/2022 08:37

I was on Facebook last night, it was mostly UC claimants that got paid today

PatsyClinethree · 08/11/2022 08:39

I'm on UC and haven't received it today.

ListenLinda · 08/11/2022 08:39

@Prettybubblesintheair Universal Credit

muddlinthroughit · 08/11/2022 08:41

Sister and I both get uc. Sister got hers today, had it after me last time, I haven't had it yet.
