Thought we could share what is good and what isn't to avoid others wasting money!
So far I have tried...

Fishcakes - not great
Salted peanuts - wayyyy to salted.
crisp - quite nice
tiny potato balls - very nice
Fishfingers - edible
Garlic baguette - nice

Anything you would or wouldn't recommend?

The big bag of sultanas are nice.
We like the pack of 10 scones for 49p too.

Notplayingball · 04/11/2022 11:39

Maximum three tins of chopped tomatoes from their Just Essentials range. I was surprised. Had to do a separate transaction to buy the other three tins!

Same on a lot of the essentials stuff to stop bulk purchases... must be very inconvenient for large families but OK for most

The washing powder is good in as much as it washes the clothes.
£2.30 for 40 odd washes is brilliant for the job it does.
The downside is that the washing doesn't have that lovely 'ahhhh!' Fresh scent (the website reviews confirm this) but it IS clean.

Had the steaks again tonight and all 3 were awful. Mine was like a steak wrapped in a condom that had been superglued to the meat.

Seem to be very hit and miss.

You have to unwrap it first

We had this issue once without realising the rule and the staff member just put the one extra thing we'd tried to buy through as a separate transaction too. I thanked her and she said "Mr Asda is laughing and eating caviar, I can't let you go home without your Just Essentials x"! 😆

Chicken curry & rice frozen ready meal - too much sticky rice and the sauce was too spicy. Really not nice.

Cheese & tomato pasta frozen ready meal - nice if you need something quick.

mickandrorty · 09/11/2022 15:54

we tried the 90p beef in gravy hooked the beef out and put it in a part baked roll fried some onion and chucked that in to for some extra flavour, saved the gravy for dipping, it was very filling and pretty decent!

The frozen pizza isn't bad. Both my kids ate it happily after school.

StrikeandRobin · 18/11/2022 20:06

Has anyone had the cottage cheese?

it’s not something I eat often, & I actually want a tub for a recipe, I’m just wondering if it’s overly watery/lumpy or something because that would put me right off.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 19/11/2022 09:23

I was surprised by how good the tortilla chips are. 43p for 180g versus £1.50 for same size bag of Doritos.

They are really thin and crispy and nicely salted and made a lovely topped nachos meal earlier this week.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/11/2022 10:35

the value tortilla at asda were always great

prawns are good
tinned cornbeef dh likes

Changemaname1 · 19/11/2022 10:39

MsMiaWallace · 19/11/2022 18:03

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/11/2022 18:13

EezyOozy · 21/11/2022 21:16

-pickled onions
-garlic bread
-kids like the cheese n tom pizza and they decorate the with extra bits
-ice lollies (kids again)
-bread buns
-chopped toms aren’t that bad
-ketchup is fine
-low fat plain yog is fab for having on granola, curry, soup etc
-lemon curd is nice
-The 28p lemonade is nice with a dash of lime juice concentrate

Alonglongway · 22/11/2022 09:39

The frozen sausages are a bit bland but perfectly ok
Mature cheddar very good
I wouldn't get the steaks again - quality is too random
Toilet rim block didn't seem to work at all

WeirdPookah · 22/11/2022 13:02

Children loved the potato balls and my husband was all nostalgic saying they where things he had when he was little!

witchesbubblebath · 22/11/2022 15:02

The parmesan isn't very good., barley any flavour.
I love the mature cheddar cheese. Amazing value for how much you get. I've grated it and frozen most of it, it has very mixed reviews on the website.

Tilda77 · 22/11/2022 16:09

Another vote for the mature cheddar cheese here! Ds also liked the fish fingers. He wasn't a fan of the spaghetti in tomato sauce but liked the spaghetti hoops. I tried the spaghetti when he said he couldn't eat it as it was horrible and I had to agree with him it had a weird taste .

Oncemoreforluck · 22/11/2022 16:26

Rice pudding is ok
tomato soup ok, just seemed a little thinner

didn’t really like the beans, but would eat them mixed with cheese. Again, the mature cheddar is lovely.

I would love to try the potato pops and cheese and bean bakes as they both get good reviews on here.

Decafflatteplease · 22/11/2022 19:17

We weren't fans of the cheese but my DC all absolutely love the potato pops! Cheese and bean bakes also good my teens pop them in the air fryer for a snack

You can freeze cheese ? No way!
